Driving home from work tonight to the main news stories on the radio being 1) man tortures adopted baby to death and 2) man arrested after child ends up in crocodile enclosure at zoo.

I am absolutely sick of the daily onslaught of problematic men, monsters, committing outrages. That’s all, no suggestions, just AIBU to be sickened by this constant stream of beasts who live amongst us (Gisele Pelicot’s husband, recent terrorist attacks, daily murders of women by men) combined with personal experiences of men who ‘you wouldn’t have thought it to look at him’ turning out to be sex pests and paedophiles is putting me right off them as a sex class. Not your man, not your son, not my (lovely) Dad, but all the other men… how do we know which ones?

Its hard not to conclude it’s a man problem.

Curious and perhaps a bit of a tangent: are you wary of all non-white men? How would you judge which ones are from the cultures you think are misogynistic if you bump into them on the street or work with them?

I think you've got your stats wrong, its not far off 10 male prisons for every 1 female prison. 120 male, 14 female.

I'm not positive but I also believe the male prisons are larger. 84k male prisoners v 3.5k female

There are about 2 men’s prisons for every woman’s prison - what does that tell you?

It's actually more like 10:1.

You're having to go back 40-60 years for those examples.
I wish you could say the same about men.

I live in an area of high immigration and not far from a migrant housing facility. The men from other cultures I’ve mainly ‘bumped into’ in the street, are the ones who have followed my 14 year old daughter, and her friends home on a regular basis, offering to pay them for sex and describing in disgusting detail what they would do to them.

We wouldn't be having an MP asking for mandatory sex lessons to teach about consent etc to protect women and girls if it wasn't a mostly men problem.

Sadly you’re not being unreasonable. I am finding it increasingly difficult to not feel it’s all men. It’s really hard and seems to be getting harder.

I recall reading that Scottish women prisoners are mainly incarcerated for more minor crimes. The Fee women are exceptions.

It’s not just in the news though. I’ve read several MN posts this afternoon about vile men!! Basically being awful to their wives, mostly verbally, some seem to be defecating and leaving the mess for their wives to clean up!!

The mind boggles. I think they’re getting worse!!

If I’m ever single in future, I wouldn’t touch another man. They’re mostly grim. I’m a mum of boys. I hope they grow up into nice human beings!!

Either they're genetically dangerous and therefore inferior.

Apologies for these analogies but... if any other group were as dangerous as a whole as men, there would be witch hunts.

Imagine if anyone of those groups posed the risk to society that men do. But no, because it's mostly white men, it's just a fact of life and not only do we mostly ignore it, when it IS brought up, the cries of not all men, misandry and man hater rings out.

I work in criminal justice, fewer than 10% of currently supervised or imprisoned offenders are female, and the number who have committed violent or sexual offences are miniscule, the car majority are acquisitive offences, failure to secure attendance at school (funny how the dad isn't held responsible usually because he's nowhere to be seen) , non payment of fines and benefit fraud offences and so on. I don't call that a fair few women, when over 98% of violent and sexual offences in the UK are committed by men

I am wary of men generally but more so from certain cultures and I don’t care if you make a presumption from that. I grew up in a very deprived area with many different cultures and some cultures are worse than others for specific crimes and the way they treat women.

I often find it’s women from very nice upbringings in 95% white + areas with integrated immigrant communities that haven’t got ghettos preach the loudest that every single man is equal irrespective of country of origin. Probably a key reason why the grooming gang girls were ignored, too working class and in an area some women couldn’t even fathom trying to navigate an upbringing in.

We are immigrants too and I have a 22 year old DS. I wonder how he will be viewed in the future. He's not harassing any women though, afaik.

I grew up in a working class area with ghettos and had a very similar experience walking home in 2005. Didn’t get it from the Polish street nor from the Sikh street. We had ghettos then and you knew which streets to avoid.

Every person arrested in the UK gets their ethnicity, religion etc recorded. Those crime stats are available either locally through court results, or via national crime figures. Immigration status is not a protected characteristic and is therefore not recorded. I’m assuming you are trying to push a bit of Britain first into it, after Jenrisk did a lovely chat about horrific crimes committed by immigrants. Trust me, despite ‘the invasion’, white men in the UK outpace them by many many. We’re really good at home grown predators, women killers and rapists. Of course we don’t need more, but rest assured, our patriotic boys have got this!

Well, yes. Because there are fewer sanctions so men are not forced to moderate themselves. Abusing women in the UK is not without risk to men so they excercise more control to avoid criminalisation. Stats from these countries do not demonstrate that men in the UK are better, simply that they are kept under tighter control by laws. And even then they break through at alarming rates.

Terrible what they did to that poor baby. This is rightfully a big media story. On the other hand, after loads of stories regarding men hitting (abusing) women, the papers used to even it out with stories of women hitting men. Haven't seen one in ages and there used to be loads. Maybe women have just cleaned up their act.
