DD with friend’s family for 8 hours only ate crisps

My DD was invited to an activity with friends today. She ate a toasted English muffin before she left at 8.15. By the time she came back at 4pm she’d only been offered some crisps to eat. I’m grateful the family took her out (I paid for her ticket which was less than a tenner) and hosted her at their home, but I just can’t fathom not offering her some lunch.

Did they have lunch and not offer her anything?

How old is she? And are you sure that’s all she had or wanted?

Yeah, its a bit odd, but a lot of people are quite weird. Give her a big dinner, she'll be fine.

No one ate lunch although the parents went out for a bit, so maybe ate then? She’s 17 and we gave her a decent early dinner, so it’s not a biggy. I just can’t imagine having guests for a whole day and not offering like at least a sandwich or something.

Of course she’d expect her child to be fed!! Would you take a child out for 8 hours and not give them lunch? Come on!

Well at 17, if she was hungry, she was perfectly capable of asking if they would be eating lunch together wasn't she? Also in the heat, lots of people save their big meal for later on the day. I'm assuming she had enough liquid?

I thought u meant she was a lot younger. Maybe at 17 they assumed she would say when hungry or she would ask to have something

She's 17!!!!!!! I would fully expect my 17 year old to either take or source her own lunch while out. I thought you were going to say she was primary age!

She's 17. Old enough to sort out her own lunch. If she'd been 10 or 11 yes I'd expect her to be fed.

Oh I thought we were talking about a small child here. Maybe they assumed a 17 year old would have means of payment with her to get her own lunch if she wanted any.

17 !! I tkought we were talking about a 5 year old or something . I expect the friend couldn’t be bothered to make anything so offered crisps . Teenagers are not worried about the social niceties of offering lunch and the parents went out so probably thought they are old enough to look after themselves !!

They were out for a couple of hours first thing and then back to theirs. She had money to buy stuff so I wasn’t expecting them to pay, but to be at their home and not offer something seems odd to me. They don’t live near shops / food places so no opportunity to pop out and get something. She was fine about it, like I said I just can’t imagine having people here for a whole day and not giving them a meal.

That’s awful! I’ve had my eldest son’s friend with us today I’ve fed him lunch and dinner, two snacks and kept him hydrated with plenty of drinks. I took them to the water park and paid! I think your DDs friends parents are mean! They have made sure she’s drank enough haven’t they?

She’s 17. It’s a bit weird that the parents would be expected to make lunch for her. Couldn’t she have asked her friend if they were in the house or got herself something if they were out?
Suspect friend is expected just to cater for herself during the day at 17 so probably didn’t even occur to parents
