AIBU to think DH’s joke after my car crash was inappropriate?

Someone went in to the back of my car earlier today when I was returning from nursery drop off. I was in traffic, so no harm done to me, but the car obviously needs some repairs. The man driving stopped and was apologetic and we swapped details.

I called DH and after checking I was okay, he ‘joked’ that ‘he has had more luck than me over the years in smashing your back doors in’. I told him I didn’t see the funny side.

He messaged me later to say I’m being uptight and to get a sense of humour.

There’s a time and a place, surely?

I thought you was going to say a full on car crash life threating or something along them lines.
So some man banged the back of you car, you swapped details everone was okay.
Husband cracked a joke.

Lmnop22 · 23/03/2026 18:24

I mean it’s generally relatively tasteless humour but I couldn’t get worked up about it - nobody was injured and no harm done so simply a poor attempt at humour.

Surely you already knew your husband had this sort of sense of humour?

JehovasFitness · 23/03/2026 18:24

I honestly couldn’t be bothered being with somebody offended by that. It might not be to
your taste, but offended?

youalright · 23/03/2026 18:27

Hes right you are being uptight, its a joke. But im sure their will be plenty of posters who come along who will stir the pot and tell you how he doesn't respect you and that you should leave him etc etc

Satarn · 23/03/2026 18:28

Unclench op your being dramatic.
Offended with what ffs.

Devontownie · 23/03/2026 18:28

Apologies - But that's hilarious 😂🙈

Abd80 · 23/03/2026 18:29

Gross. I personally hate this sort of humour.
but generally you’d know if your husband had this type of sense of humour?

WeepingAngelInTheTardis · 23/03/2026 18:30

You’re being highly dramatic, I thought a lorry had driven into you or something.

Derbee · 23/03/2026 18:31

I think this is pathetic, and badly timed after a car accident. But agree that you presumably already knew he’s got a pathetic and misogynistic sense of humour?

LightYearsAgo · 23/03/2026 18:33

The fact that it was after a car incident possibly wouldn't bother me but the fact that he in way thought it was funny would

Is he a teenager?

maras2 · 23/03/2026 18:34

What does that even mean?

Sherunswithwolves · 23/03/2026 18:35

It's grim.

JemimaTiggywinkles · 23/03/2026 18:35

I think that’s a disgusting comment. It’d definitely give me the ick.

She doesn’t have to “unclench” for that, if she doesn’t want to.

No, this is not me being serious or helpful.

binnibonnieboo · 23/03/2026 18:36

I'm sorry, was he referring to forcible anal sex or am I imagining it? If so, just horrible. If not then what did he mean?

SevenYellowHammers · 23/03/2026 18:37

Yuk

Yes that's what it means. It's absolutely horrible, car crash or not.

LunchatthePriory · 23/03/2026 18:39

Man tells misogynist joke at expense of his wife, who's just been involved in an accident.
She, not unreasonably, doesn't find it funny.

Then tells her she's uptight and needs to get a sense of humour.

He's a dickhead isn't he?

therockingbird · 23/03/2026 18:40

Yep - bad taste! ExH did similar by sending jokes to me on tik tok when I had a minor crash.. twat!

nowayho · 23/03/2026 18:41

It was just a joke.

Ihatelittlefriendsusan · 23/03/2026 18:41

@Laulau3 I am with you on this. If my DH had made a joke like that at any time, let alone after I'd been involved in a car accident he would be sleeping in his car for the foreseeable.

It was exist, misogynistic and down right bloody rude.

He needs to grow up

LadyLindaT · 23/03/2026 18:42

Tasteless and nasty.

ElspethTassione · 23/03/2026 18:42

I honestly can't believe there are people saying that this is ok! You are right to be offended and your husband getting the hump makes it even worse. I'm sorry you're having a horrible day OP.

stayathomegardener · 23/03/2026 18:42

Your H is giving me the ick from a distance, horrible thing to say at any time.

LightYearsAgo · 23/03/2026 18:43

nowayho · 23/03/2026 18:41

It was just a joke.

We aren't obliged to find other peoples "jokes" funny or appropriate.

Would you say the same about Bernard Manning?
