I am so, so pleased that the UK has a grown-up leader and not Johnson, Truss, Sunak or any of the other Tories (or heaven forbid) Reform. All of them would have been a total embarrassment.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 03/03/2026 17:39

I reckon this will either propell Starmer to beloved status

Or win the election for Farage

Badenoch as the opposition leader won't be taken seriously by Trump, sorry, so fingers crossed for a STRONG STARMER

I’m also feeling uncomfortable today that Keir Starmer has done something I agree with. Perhaps he can do more leading and we can get behind him as a country

Catisheavyonmylap · 03/03/2026 17:44

I’m pleased with Keirs stance but nervously waiting for the payback from Trump?

Marchspringss · 03/03/2026 17:50

I think he was really good, I like how he speaks, represents UK. On the other hand I don't get Trumhps way of talking abd acting?
I mean isn't he educated ir something?

dizzydizzydizzy · 03/03/2026 17:56

Agreed!

I have just seen a horrible social media post from our local Tory MP about their plans to abolish the use of protected characteristics in the government sector. I’m not sure how they think that disabled or other marginalised people are going to get jobs.

Also they want to stop schools promoting multiculturalism - do they even do this? And even iif they do, what the hell is wrong with it? Like it or not, this country has many people from all kinds of countries and religions. We can’t turn back the clock. It is better if we understand each other. And what’s more it very interesting to learn about other cultures.

PandoraSocks · 03/03/2026 17:59

The hard-core anti-Starmer lot will be along soon to pour scorn on the thread, but I agree with you OP.

Trump will have forgotten about it all by this time next week.

Lemonfrost · 03/03/2026 18:02

Not a KS fan but FULLY behind him on this. Trump is an odious, ill educated, bloated oaf who is incapable of doing anything other than causing chaos and slinging insults. The fact he still occupies the White House beggars belief. It's high time we stood up to this vile excuse for a human being and put him straight once and for all.

Rosieposie200 · 03/03/2026 18:05

Totally agree, thank god he’s finally stood up to Trump!

Echobelly · 03/03/2026 18:06

If anything his response isn't strong enough. But if Trump is going to be 'America doesn't need nobody and we're not going help anybody else any more either', then other countries should say 'OK, you have to deal with this mess yourself'. I hope we can get a united response across the world along these lines.

You don't get to boast that you won't help anyone anymore and that everyone else is rubbish and just has to 'stand on their own two feet without us 'cos we won't give you "handouts" any more', then be upset when everyone else refuses to help clean up your mess.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 03/03/2026 18:07

I reckon Angela raynor would've been excellent here as well

Keir has the ball's that many others don’t have. Watching that orange toad in a suit just now on the news has really turned my stomach…he is a fucking looney.

TheGrimSmile · 03/03/2026 18:10

Just came on to say the same. Not happy with many things Starmer has done, but impressed with this.

Sunshineandrainbow · 03/03/2026 18:10

Here here

But it worries me!

CharlotteRumpling · 03/03/2026 18:11

YES.
Meanwhile Trump: The next regime may be even worse than Khameini.
You don't say.

Raquelos · 03/03/2026 18:12

I actually think that foreign relations is where Starmer is strongest. He trod a tricky line of keeping Trump on side when many others failed, and he still has the strength to say no when it matters. As a PP said, I am beyond grateful to have a grown-up in charge right now.

Abd80 · 03/03/2026 18:13

Starmer is a silver fox I say
hot to trot

mumofoneAloneandwell · 03/03/2026 18:15

Also, has Netanyahu pulled his troops out of Palestine yet, or is he still killing innocent people there as well?

OP posts:
JohnBullshit · 03/03/2026 18:15

Yes.
Not the hot to trot bit, however.

Ninerainbows · 03/03/2026 18:16

This is one of the reasons I voted Labour. I wanted someone like him - steady - in charge when the inevitable happened.

I couldn't agree more..the man is an idiot.
Wasn't it in his 2 hour speech he mentioned ' blood and guts '
I can't imagine any of politicians speaking like that

As the mother of a solider, I’m so pleased that we currently have Keir Starmer as PM. I dread to think what would be happening if Badenoch or Farage was in charge right now.

Lets not forget, either, that it’s only about 6 weeks ago that Trump had a go at all NATO soldiers, including the British, saying that the US had never needed them, and they’d never asked anything from them. He went on to say “"They'll say they sent some troops to Afghanistan... and they did, they stayed a little back, a little off the front lines.". 457 of our soldiers died “staying a little back from the frontlines” so as far as I’m concerned if he wants to go in, feet first, starting wars, then crack on, but leave us out of it.
