Looking at the news and can't find anything. Has he told Trump to go fuck himself?? There is hope for him yet

Agreed!

I have just seen a horrible social media post from our local Tory MP about their plans to abolish the use of protected characteristics in the government sector. I’m not sure how they think that disabled or other marginalised people are going to get jobs.

Also they want to stop schools promoting multiculturalism - do they even do this? And even iif they do, what the hell is wrong with it? Like it or not, this country has many people from all kinds of countries and religions. We can’t turn back the clock. It is better if we understand each other. And what’s more it very interesting to learn about other cultures.

These people are idiots. Employers aren't going to take on people who are more expensive to employ unless they have to. It's not the business of a private company to save the country money by giving someone a job that means they need less or no benefit payments. So that's anybody with a disability or a chronic medical condition written off. It's also many women of childbearing age, especially if they already have children, as employers are going to assume they'll need time off for family responsibilities. And good luck to any women of any age trying to get their employer to address female-specific issues like the gender pay gap, lack of women in senior positions, family-friendly and work life balance policies and so on.

ETA: many employers are not immune to prejudice and bigotry, so LGB people and people from minority ethnic groups are also going to struggle if the Equality Act is repealed. It wouldl take the country back 60 years. Fortunately the Tories are a busted flush, but Reform have similar ideas. Worrying times.

Annoyed the 🍊 lunatic.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 03/03/2026 18:28

For most of my life, I have been consistently disappointed by Britain's poodle-like tendency to follow the US's lead no matter what. For once, it seems that we are making our own decisions. Starmer has been disappointing in many ways, but I congratulate him for this.

And despite the shrill statements from the Tories and Reform about how we should be doing more, as well as the protestations from the left that we are already doing too much, I actually think the vast majority of people in this country will be broadly in agreement with Starmer's approach.

I think Trump's comments may well produce a bit of an unexpected popularity boost for Starmer.

Ihavelostthegame · 03/03/2026 18:28

On this Starmer is doing a fantastic job. So grateful we have an adult in charge rather than an overgrown toddler.

Labour have not got everything right since coming in no. But on handling Trump I think they have done as well as they possibly could. Frankly it’s a miracle they have managed to achieve anything else considering the ridiculous amount of attention the Trump psychodrama consumes.
Ironically Trumps nonsense today could well increase Starmer’s approval rating in the UK whilst continuing to destroy his own in the US.

Not in so many words. But he has made it clear that he doesn't think the Iran war is legal, and he hasn't just capitulated to Trump's demands in the way that Trump thinks he should.

PandoraSocks · 03/03/2026 18:29

I just hope Starmer sticks to this. If he capitulates to Trump, it will be awful.

LauraNorda · 03/03/2026 18:30

So, British territory in Akrotiri has been hit, despite the UK taking no part in the military action on Iran up until that point and our navy has nothing to defend it so we have to rely on the French and people support Starmer?

How low we have sunk. Not lifting a finger to help our allies against an insane theocracy, exporting death throughout the Middle East and beyond.

Trump is right, Starmer is no Winston Churchill.

MeaningfulProgress · 03/03/2026 18:33

Lemonfrost · 03/03/2026 18:02

Not a KS fan but FULLY behind him on this. Trump is an odious, ill educated, bloated oaf who is incapable of doing anything other than causing chaos and slinging insults. The fact he still occupies the White House beggars belief. It's high time we stood up to this vile excuse for a human being and put him straight once and for all.

Well put!

Scary that Trump is able to take so many decisions. (And deflect again from the Epstein files - hate to think of the lives lost and at risk to protect this man).

Thank goodness for Kier Starmer, a considered and serious leader. (Can’t imagine Boris or Nigel managing such a huge leadership role in such a serious situation).

Starmer is no Winston Churchill

He's not a racist, colonialist, alcoholic who is happy to let people starve, true enough.

insane theocracy

Have you been keeping up with the news from the US today?

Sadcafe · 03/03/2026 18:35

Starmer is no Churchill, very true, Churchill would have put the odious little orange buffoon in his place long before know

Perhaps those of us who are happy with his current stance should write to our MPs to express that?

CinnamonBuns67 · 03/03/2026 18:37

I'm also glad KS isn't allowing us to be dragged into it, despite making the stupid little orange man angry.

I would but mine is a useless Tory who would probably write back to disagree with me.

Are these the same “Allies” that a mere few weeks ago said that Britain didn’t play much of a part in Afghanistan? That we “sent some troops but they stayed back…a little off the front lines”? You’re talking about those allies?

We could send all of our troops and this joke of an administration would lie and twist it and deny we did anything as soon as it suits them. Don’t bend over backwards for people who don’t even remember your name.

You know what, now I Google, he hasn't shown a bit of independent thought for 20 years but the poor sod voted against the Iraq war then got called up to serve out there as a medical officer in 2003, so perhaps I will drop him a line!

IAmTheFloorCleaner · 03/03/2026 18:42

He is good at this sort of thing, I presume it’s due to his background. The McDonald’s case he was a part of was very interesting.

Rooroobear · 03/03/2026 18:43

We stayed off the frontline in Afghanistan?? What a joke!! The American soldiers wouldn’t go near Helmand province! Called the British troops crazy because it was such a dangerous part of Afghanistan to go. The us army is wank

He'll capitulate to which side of his own party is pressuring him most.

Starmer is a dreadful leader, he'd be out of a job by now if there was anyone within his party actually fit to take over.

Churchil was a eugenicist too. He had very similar opinions to Hitler in some respects. I’m glad that we don’t have a PM anything like him!

Agreed. Starmer is playing a blinder on this. Unbelievable how the Right wing press, Tories and Farage are all baying to get stuck into another illegal war with America. Like they've all forgotten Iraq.

I agree in that I think we should be fully supporting the US in this. We’re just sitting back and letting them save us from tyrants.
