Why is Ghislaine Maxwell remaining silent?

Posting in AIBU for traffic, but I mean ‘AIBU to wonder why she’s not said stuff…”

Is it out of loyalty? Would saying anything incriminate her even further? Will she be freed if she stays silent, and if so how/why?

I also don’t understand how she can’t be encouraged to say something. You’d think she’d be raging inside to be the only person imprisoned and would want that rectifying.

Perhaps she doesn’t want to jeopardise a hope for early release?

Cheese55 · 02/02/2026 14:50

She needs to be looked after financially when she's released and that won't happen if she spills the beans on all the rich people. She'll be rewarded if she keeps quiet.

Coffeeishot · 02/02/2026 14:50

She did say last year that Donald trump was a complete gentleman before she was moved to a better facility so there is that. She will be waiting on release she has no money so i assume she will be cashing in favours, so basically biding her time.

guinnessguzzler · 02/02/2026 14:54

She saw what happened to Epstein and wants to be clear that she can be trusted to keep her mouth shut?

feellikeanalien · 02/02/2026 14:55

I thought she was due to testify before Congress soon.

However whether she will say anything remains to be seen. There are a lot of powerful people who won't want certain information getting out.

Ghislaine Maxwell to testify before Congress in Epstein probe

The convicted sex trafficker has previously said she would decline to answer questions unless she is granted immunity.

Although didn't she get 20 years so maybe she is waiting on early release.

Oh i didn't know this, although i very much doubt she will be very forthcoming.

wishingonastar101 · 02/02/2026 14:59

Because if she incriminates more people she won't be looked after as well - either in prison or on her (probably early) release. Also, she wants to stay alive... if she says too much about the wrong people she might find her self 'committing suicide'.

flapjackfairy · 02/02/2026 15:01

she doesn't want to end up like Epstein I would imagine.

MrsTerryPratchett · 02/02/2026 15:01

What they all said. She's got fancy prison right now, with very little chance of an 'accident'.

She could have hard (and short) time if she speaks.

BadgernTheGarden · 02/02/2026 15:04

The more she says the deeper the hole she digs. Now if they offered her freedom and immunity (and maybe a new identity) she might spill the beans. But that would also depend on who she might incriminate, there are no doubt people she wouldn't want to cross.

canisquaeso · 02/02/2026 15:04

I just want to recommend the podcast The Mysterious Mr Epstein to everyone even remotely interested in this case.

I think she’s keeping herself alive tbh.

soupyspoon · 02/02/2026 15:04

She's a criminal. I mean what do people expect of her really?

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 02/02/2026 15:04

She doesn’t want to risk her life.

Gloopsy · 02/02/2026 15:05

You cant work out that with the fear of being murdered it's probably a good idea to stay quiet?

Epstein was imprisoned.

Happyher · 02/02/2026 15:09

Probably saw what happened to Epstein and is keeping schtum. Trump moved her pretty quick into a more pleasant prison. Probably part of the deal

Pabbel · 02/02/2026 15:10

She is due to face congress on Feb 9th

I think a combination of this and wanting to be rewarded with £££ if when she gets out.

ChaToilLeam · 02/02/2026 15:11

I imagine she knows she is better off remaining silent and alive.

FreeTheOakTree · 02/02/2026 15:12

She is holding tight for the payout, once she is released.

She doesn't care about justice for any victims. She doesn't want to meet the same fate as JE, and has made deals that ensure she remains silent, in exchange for eventual freedom - and security.

pinkypoo8 · 02/02/2026 15:13

Of course she won't be freed if she stays silent she's in prison for 20 years if I'd got a sentence like that I'd want to take the rest down with me I can't believe she hasn't come to some sort of deal... she was a main protagonist and deserves everything she gets

LeedsLoiner · 02/02/2026 15:13

She doesn't want to be found dead in her cell ?

I bet the money is already in the bank, and the story is already written, for this.

THIS!

If she spills she is absolutely a goner.

I mean who really believes Eppstein killed himself? No way. I even have doubts about Giuffre. It's amazing how many witnesses from that time have 'killed themselves'.
