Why is Ghislaine Maxwell remaining silent?

Letsskidaddle · 02/02/2026 14:45

Posting in AIBU for traffic, but I mean ‘AIBU to wonder why she’s not said stuff…”

Is it out of loyalty? Would saying anything incriminate her even further? Will she be freed if she stays silent, and if so how/why?

I also don’t understand how she can’t be encouraged to say something. You’d think she’d be raging inside to be the only person imprisoned and would want that rectifying.

I'd imagine she doesn't want to incriminate herself further.

She disappeared for the better part of a year, if they were going to kill her that would have been the time to do it. They could probably have fabricated evidence of a suicide pact between her and JE for if they were ever caught. I wonder if she used the time in hiding to organise a dead man's switch. There may be some very powerful people invested in making sure she stays alive.

Moveoverdarlin · 02/02/2026 18:05

Because this is the tip of the iceberg and she’s in it up to her neck.

I understand that Ghislaine Maxwell committed criminal offences and is rightly in gaol. However, it still baffles me that only a woman is currently incarcerated in relation to this - what about all the men, FFS?
Not to mention that the only people who have had any kind of "punishment" are all British - Maxwell, Andrew M-W (loss of status, titles and home) and Mandelson (loss of job... so far). What about all the Americans?

I read an article that says, broadly, that the British Establishment is quick to chuck out those who break the rules, whereas the Americans are more likely to band together to protect their own...... maybe some truth in that?

Epstein, an American male, went to jail.

She is probably talking to her lawyers and preparing something. I agree, she's carrying the can. She was Epstein's only real friend, knew his secrets, nobody else did. He certainly manipulated and exploited her, she was in love with him but she and he parted a very long time ago. I would think by now she has done enough penance. Thank goodness her family are sticking by her.

I can't imagine there is much more she can say, frankly. We all know Epstein cultivated cordial relationships with prominent people, that gave him cover; he was was extremely wealthy and influential in various fields. He must have had some charisma because even after he was convicted many didn't believe he was wrong, he'd done so much to help their careers, etc.

Meanwhile the media are enjoying it. I'm sick of it, frankly, all the muckraking is doing nobody any good, least of all the poor young women he trafficked.

Done enough penance? Are you kidding, she’s a fucking monster!!

So agree. I think there is a lot of ignorance on this thread about what she did.

Coffeeishot · 02/02/2026 14:50

She did say last year that Donald trump was a complete gentleman before she was moved to a better facility so there is that. She will be waiting on release she has no money so i assume she will be cashing in favours, so basically biding her time.

Edited

She has money and her family certainly does. They were Maxwells and her father was a crook. Will have put his money in trusts and offshore. She was refused bail as she was classed as a flight risk. Keeping quiet as she will be looked after.

MunicipalDarwinism · 02/02/2026 18:20

I wonder why she didn't flee to France at the first opportunity. She wouldn't have been extradited.

MrsTerryPratchett · 02/02/2026 18:31

Summeriscumin · 02/02/2026 16:34

I think she really believes she did nothing wrong - same with Andrew,

I don't agree. The transgresive nature of the behaviour is the point. Rich men can shag willing, adult women all day every day. The thrill is doing something illegal, perverted and wrong.

They all know it's wrong. They just believe themselves above consequences. And when the POTUS is a rapist, they probably are.

Letsskidaddle · 02/02/2026 18:40

Thanks for all the replies - I can see my thinking was really naive.

To answer a few questions

  • I thought there might be some lifetime safety and security from eg FBI if she spoke out

  • I hadn’t realised she was due to testify

  • I assumed she’d have found her moral compass or some compassion for victims once she was out of that position an had time to reflect

  • I find it hard to believe she was completely complicit and not coerced in some way, or not remorseful for the right reasons. I’ve no doubt she is saddened for herself but clearly not for any victims

Yes. I can see I have been extremely naive - it’s hard when you look at a situation from your own perspective and moral compass to not understand that she has no morals or remorse. Nor obviously do any of the other people involved in this. They are humanity at its worse and it’s sickening.

Thank you all for your replies, they have been educational.

Of course she won't be freed if she stays silent she's in prison for 20 years if I'd got a sentence like that I'd want to take the rest down with me I can't believe she hasn't come to some sort of deal... she was a main protagonist and deserves everything she gets

This needs some commas; I'm not sure what the first bit is trying to say. Confused

Lostinbrum · 02/02/2026 19:07

This is the deepest rabbit hole going. Whats in some of the files is horrific. Looks like pizza parties was a thing. She is being kept alive because she serves a purpose. Soon as she doesn't she will meet the same end as epstein

justasking111 · 02/02/2026 19:10

Heidi Fleiss never spilled the beans about her clients. She's 60 now.

Bertiebiscuit · 02/02/2026 19:11

You make a good point, but i wonder if she is genuinely scared of the powerful men she could name - life in prison probably seems better than Epstein 's fate after all.

Nicki Minaj.

What has she done?

HRTQueen · 02/02/2026 19:19

flapjackfairy · 02/02/2026 15:01

she doesn't want to end up like Epstein I would imagine.

^

I agree

soupyspoon · 02/02/2026 19:20

Who is Maxwells network then, does she have siblings and children? Is her mother still alive?

Allseeingallknowing · 02/02/2026 19:23

Do you not watch the news, read a newspaper etc?

The odd glance but no, not really. Not anymore.

nomas · 02/02/2026 19:27

She only got 20 years, she is going to need money when she gets out, she won’t risk that. Hope she dies in jail too.

I think her brother came out in support for her, maybe another sibling too but he definitely did.

Where did you find this?

Snorlaxo · 02/02/2026 15:16

Not read the previous replies but firstly she wants to stay alive and not find herself in Epstein’s shoes. Snitching risks rich powerful people sending people after her too and prison is hard enough.

By not implicating Trump, she increases a chance of a presidential pardon later plus proving that she ca shut up means that powerful rich people will still do business with her when she gets out.

There is no guarantee that rich powerful men will get the punishment that they deserve if she snitches. Rich powerful people can get the best legal services and even when caught, often serve ridiculous sentences through deals etc

Yes, this.
Keep schtum & stay alive, have a cushy prison time until an early pardon & then get paid off by the wealthy men she's protecting. She has no conscience, so why not ?

StrongestWoman · 02/02/2026 19:38

For those interested I recommend houseinhabit on substack, make up your own mind though.
It is interesting that Maxwell is in prison for trafficking girls to noone.
Plus, I understand that she was relatively forthcoming about her long-term affair with Bill Clinton to the FBI.

How do you know "she was relatively forthcoming about her long-term affair with Bill Clinton to the FBI"? Something like that would be all over the media.

Eta: I googled House Inhabit.

Jessica Reed Kraus is an American writer, Instagram influencer, and former mommyblogger who writes the newsletter House Inhabit. The newsletter covers celebrity gossip, conspiracy theories, and American politics.[1][2] Kraus describes her writing as an "alternative approach to reporting" with which "the basic quest for truth, paired with a flexible narrative, I think speaks to people in a real way."
