Why is Ghislaine Maxwell remaining silent?

Posting in AIBU for traffic, but I mean ‘AIBU to wonder why she’s not said stuff…”

Is it out of loyalty? Would saying anything incriminate her even further? Will she be freed if she stays silent, and if so how/why?

I also don’t understand how she can’t be encouraged to say something. You’d think she’d be raging inside to be the only person imprisoned and would want that rectifying.

@Thingything I have doubts about Guiffre too. I think it is plausible that she did end her own life but I think it is at least equally plausible that she was killed.

If true, that should be used to compensate victims.

Is she allowed to keep it? Will it not have been frozen as came from crime?

I agree, I'm sure I read a lot of his money, over 100 million, had been put aside for this but no idea if true.

PigletJohn · 02/02/2026 15:48

Trump had her moved from a high security prison to a country club when she said nice things about him. No doubt she could be moved back equally easily.

LaMarschallin · 02/02/2026 15:48

What sort of "encouragement" do you think would be appropriate?
A pardon?
Torture?
Something in between?
If so, what?

CommonlyKnownAs · 02/02/2026 15:49

She may have substantial financial incentives to keep schtum. That silence of hers is very valuable, worth paying for.

OhDear111 · 02/02/2026 15:51

Because she might incriminate herself further. Same with Andrew.

BashfulClam · 02/02/2026 16:11

I saw allegations but can’t verify the validity of them but if they are true and if any of the others knew those details well life would be over for them. I can’t go into it but let’s just say I am not surprised someone very powerful wants to keep it all under wraps.

shhblackbag · 02/02/2026 16:12

She's in a cushy prison now and still alive. Enough incentive to shut up, I'd think.

Twowhippetstwogingers · 02/02/2026 16:17

I’d imagine as PPs have said, she’s also afraid of being killed. It would be understandable. She has Epstein and Guiffre to remind her.

ReadingCrimeFiction · 02/02/2026 16:17

I can't stand the woman but I can think of multiple reasons why she would keep quiet, and if any of them are even vaguelly true, of course she should.

I can't stand Andrew and I think he should be FORCED to give more info, but I completely get why he doesn't want to/ is trying to wriggle out of it.

Most people will do what is best for themselves. x10000 for people who have already proven to be craven, awful human beings.

Although didn't she get 20 years so maybe she is waiting on early release.

Totally counting on a pardon from Trump before the end of his term I am guessing.

I would imagine because she has been promised a review of her sentence/pardon if she just keeps quiet.

Yes she is probably waiting on the pardon.

I don't think there is anything in it for her to say anything? What possible benefit is there?

The moral high ground departed a long time ago, and as pp say she is going to need someone to pay her bills when she's released. She'd be mad to start talking.

There was never ever a moral high ground.

WorriedMutha · 02/02/2026 16:23

She didn't even give evidence in her own trial.

TessSaysYes · 02/02/2026 16:29

I think Trump has asked her not to still the beans.

Her reward is being moved to a nicer open prison.

That's how I read it.

canisquaeso · 02/02/2026 15:04

I just want to recommend the podcast The Mysterious Mr Epstein to everyone even remotely interested in this case.

I think she’s keeping herself alive tbh.

So do I

Summeriscumin · 02/02/2026 16:34

I think she really believes she did nothing wrong - same with Andrew,

Romevsldn · 02/02/2026 16:36

Becaused she will be (illed too

and watch - he will pardon her when he leaves office

Ohcrap082024 · 02/02/2026 16:39

EasternEcho · 02/02/2026 15:20

She's waiting for a last day of term pardon from Trump, who'll probably grant it to her if she keeps silent.

This was exactly what I was going to say.

Pallisers · 02/02/2026 16:41

She is hoping to sell her testimony for a pardon from Trump. So is waiting to hear what he would like her to say - then she will say it.

Isittimeformynapyet · 02/02/2026 16:42

Snorlaxo · 02/02/2026 15:36

If you were a lawyer or Congressman would you want to take on men who are richer and more powerful than you? They have the power to make your family’s lives miserable forever assuming they thy don’t “commit suicide” I’m not sure that someone like Ghislaine could go into witness protection anywhere in the world and who wants to be the taxpayer forcing out for that?

The people in power will be happy that she isn’t saying anything. Clinton and Gates are refusing to testify - I suspect that Trump knows what she will say and there’s a convenient useful idiot in Andrew MW

What does "forcing out for that" mea.....

Oh! Forking out. Sorry.

Genevieva · 02/02/2026 16:45

Maybe because she is in prison…
