Why is Ghislaine Maxwell remaining silent?

Letsskidaddle · 02/02/2026 14:45

Posting in AIBU for traffic, but I mean ‘AIBU to wonder why she’s not said stuff…”

Is it out of loyalty? Would saying anything incriminate her even further? Will she be freed if she stays silent, and if so how/why?

I also don’t understand how she can’t be encouraged to say something. You’d think she’d be raging inside to be the only person imprisoned and would want that rectifying.

She doesn’t want to die? Like Epstein did

Serpentstooth · 02/02/2026 15:15

? You have noticed Jeffrey Epstein's prison experience and dubious end? Self-explanatory.

Thingything · 02/02/2026 15:16

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 02/02/2026 15:04

She doesn’t want to risk her life.

Right? I'd rather be alive and in prison than dead.

Snorlaxo · 02/02/2026 15:16

Not read the previous replies but firstly she wants to stay alive and not find herself in Epstein’s shoes. Snitching risks rich powerful people sending people after her too and prison is hard enough.

By not implicating Trump, she increases a chance of a presidential pardon later plus proving that she ca shut up means that powerful rich people will still do business with her when she gets out.

There is no guarantee that rich powerful men will get the punishment that they deserve if she snitches. Rich powerful people can get the best legal services and even when caught, often serve ridiculous sentences through deals etc

TheGoddessAthena · 02/02/2026 15:18

Why would she? She is locked up for a long time and speaking is not making one iota of difference to that. She's hardly going to be of the opinion that speaking to the police/FBI is a good move.

Pearlstillsinging · 02/02/2026 15:19

guinnessguzzler · 02/02/2026 14:54

She saw what happened to Epstein and wants to be clear that she can be trusted to keep her mouth shut?

This, of course! She has a lot to lose if the wrong people think she might talk.

EasternEcho · 02/02/2026 15:20

She's waiting for a last day of term pardon from Trump, who'll probably grant it to her if she keeps silent.

Ialwaysthoughtitwasadojo · 02/02/2026 15:22

I read somewhere that it would only jeopardise her further and essentially out herself even more if she did give more evidence, as she was so complicit in it as well.

guinnessguzzler · 02/02/2026 15:22

@Thingything I have doubts about Guiffre too. I think it is plausible that she did end her own life but I think it is at least equally plausible that she was killed.

CommonlyKnownAs · 02/02/2026 15:22

Perhaps she's not been offered anything significant enough to outweigh the risk of speaking out.

Kelta · 02/02/2026 15:28

Cheese55 · 02/02/2026 14:50

She needs to be looked after financially when she's released and that won't happen if she spills the beans on all the rich people. She'll be rewarded if she keeps quiet.

She has a generous trust fund and millions in the bank.

She is worried about her safety.

DoubleShotEspressox · 02/02/2026 15:29

@guinnessguzzler 100% agree. When I saw in the news that she has “ended her life” there was not a single part of me that believed it. She was killed. She was getting too much momentum, right at the time her book was being released.

givemushypeasachance · 02/02/2026 15:30

Virginia Giuffre was a very troubled woman - people suspicious about her suicide, did you not see her social media posts the month before her death where she claimed she'd been in a road accident with a school bus going 70mph, was injured and diagnosed with renal failure which means she only had four days to live and yet had been discharged from hospital? A bizarre fabrication, which the police confirmed there was no evidence of aside from a report of a minor crash with no reported injuries.

Lifeomars · 02/02/2026 15:33

Does anyone else think that Epstein had the most disgustingly smug sleazy expression on his face in every photo of him, even the mug shots? I can feel my skin crawl everytime his image crops up (which is a lot currently) and although i guess this is due to the wisdom of hindsight, arrogance and contempt just seem to radiate from the vile man. As for Ghislaine, I am sure she is watching which way the wind is now blowing and adapting her story accordingly.

Snorlaxo · 02/02/2026 15:36

If you were a lawyer or Congressman would you want to take on men who are richer and more powerful than you? They have the power to make your family’s lives miserable forever assuming they thy don’t “commit suicide” I’m not sure that someone like Ghislaine could go into witness protection anywhere in the world and who wants to be the taxpayer forcing out for that?

The people in power will be happy that she isn’t saying anything. Clinton and Gates are refusing to testify - I suspect that Trump knows what she will say and there’s a convenient useful idiot in Andrew MW

secretrocker · 02/02/2026 15:36

Who would she talk to? Prison officers?
I mean, I presume she's not allowed to join Twitter or Mumsnet and chat away.
Plus, if she's due to testify she'd be in contenpt of court.
How exactly do you think she'd be able to say anything?

PruthePrune · 02/02/2026 15:38

Fearing for her life. Epstein knew very powerful people.

80smonster · 02/02/2026 15:39

LeedsLoiner · 02/02/2026 15:13

She doesn't want to be found dead in her cell ?

Quite. Let’s see if she makes it until February 9.

ThatCyanCat · 02/02/2026 15:41

When you're in shit up to your ears, keep your mouth shut.

CommonlyKnownAs · 02/02/2026 15:41

Google says she's eligible for release in 2037, when she'd be 77. Her mum and maternal aunt both lived into their 90s, maybe she's gambling on doing the same.

ExpressCheckout · 02/02/2026 15:41

I think because she's in the safest place she could be, given 'who knows what' and how much power they have.

Westfacing · 02/02/2026 15:41

Trump has it in his power to grant her a pardon - I expect that's what she is waiting for

Tigger18 · 02/02/2026 15:42

Cheese55 · 02/02/2026 14:50

She needs to be looked after financially when she's released and that won't happen if she spills the beans on all the rich people. She'll be rewarded if she keeps quiet.

I thought she'd been left millions in JEs will?

Thunderdcc · 02/02/2026 15:42

I don't think there is anything in it for her to say anything? What possible benefit is there?

The moral high ground departed a long time ago, and as pp say she is going to need someone to pay her bills when she's released. She'd be mad to start talking.

Allseeingallknowing · 02/02/2026 15:43

Tigger18 · 02/02/2026 15:42

I thought she'd been left millions in JEs will?

If true, that should be used to compensate victims.
