Made the lasagna without the lasagna

What to do?

Just prepped for dinner, did all the mince with tomatoes, onion etc and made the cheese sauce, boiled some potatoes and went to get the lasagna sheets and don’t have any.
Not feeling 100% so cba going to the shops, how can I make it into a proper meal? I have some pasta I could use instead, but what about the potatoes? Save them for tomorrow 🤷🏻‍♀️

Use layers of sliced potatoes and call it moussaka

EleanorReally · 05/01/2026 13:27

as a child my dm always used to make bolognaise, sliced potatoes where the lasagne sheet would go
its very nice

WinoTime · 05/01/2026 13:27

You could thinly slice and roast potatoes as a layer or two?

Favouritefruits · 05/01/2026 13:28

I’m sorry what are the potatoes for? Just make the lasagne into a pasta bake?

Jadetheobscure1989 · 05/01/2026 13:28

What are the potatoes for?

ClaraThePigeon · 05/01/2026 13:28

Potatoes? I thought that you were making lasagne?

Scampuss · 05/01/2026 13:28

What were you going to do with the potatoes?!

Just use whatever pasta you have and top it with cheese sauce.

But no potatoes.

TelephoneWires · 05/01/2026 13:28

I don’t normally associate potatoes with lasagne but yes - slice the potatoes and use instead of the lasagne or use some normal pasta and do a pasta bake.

murasaki · 05/01/2026 13:28

Potatoes in a lasagna?

ToKittyornottoKitty · 05/01/2026 13:29

What do you mean potato’s? Are they just a side dish? If so do a pasta bake and keep the potato’s as a side dish

Jennyfur · 05/01/2026 13:29

So confused where the potatoes have come from? Just add pasta and cheese and it’s a pasta bake

wandawaves · 05/01/2026 13:29

Pastitsio? Greek Lasagne. You can use the other pasta you have.

SwingTheMonkey · 05/01/2026 13:29

Also confused about where the potatoes come in to a lasagne recipe?

Favouritefruits · 05/01/2026 13:29

I’m glad I’m not the only one confused about the potatoes!

HisNotHes · 05/01/2026 13:29

Potatoes in lasagne, wtf?

didgeridid · 05/01/2026 13:29

Also interested what the potatoes were for 😂

I would just turn it into a shepherd's pie :)

WarmGreyHare · 05/01/2026 13:31

Just use the pasta! Either in layers, or I would just mix it up with the red sauce and dump the cheese sauce over the top then bake.

maowmaow · 05/01/2026 13:33

I need to know why you’ve boiled potatoes when making lasagne?

soupyspoon · 05/01/2026 13:34

Potatoes or cabbage leaves

Call it what you like, it doesnt matter, its meat layered in between carbs and very nice it would be either way (or cabbage if you're not using the carbs)

People are so rigid

It would blow peoples minds to know that in parts of Spain they make paella with pasta.

User2123 · 05/01/2026 13:35

We used to always have potatoes on the side with lasagne growing up. Now I do chips instead, thought that was fairly normal. Can never have too many carbs! But yes in this case I'd do as others have suggested and either turn into pasta bake and leave the potatoes for another day (or make a potato salad side dish?), or use layers of potatoes in place of the lasagne.

soupyspoon · 05/01/2026 13:36

Why is this in AIBU anyway?

Im so rigid!!!

minipie · 05/01/2026 13:36

Here for the potatoes explanation

I’d use a layer of whatever other kind of pasta you have OP in place of the lasagne sheets - it might need a few minutes pre cooking depending on what type it is.

Orrrr if you have an aubergine you could use slices of that but it’ll need pre cooking

TeaRoseTallulah · 05/01/2026 13:37

Just use pasta.

Also here for the potatoes 😂

She was obviously planning to use lasagna as the ‘layer’ though!

The potatoes were to go with the lasagna, my family like some buttery boiled potatoes with it

I don’t think I can slice the potatoes-too soft 😬
