Made the lasagna without the lasagna

What to do?

Just prepped for dinner, did all the mince with tomatoes, onion etc and made the cheese sauce, boiled some potatoes and went to get the lasagna sheets and don’t have any.
Not feeling 100% so cba going to the shops, how can I make it into a proper meal? I have some pasta I could use instead, but what about the potatoes? Save them for tomorrow 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also bamboozled by the spuds. You need to explain!

Ohpleeeease · 05/01/2026 13:39

Use any other pasta, layered. But potatoes?

soupyspoon · 05/01/2026 13:39

ToKittyornottoKitty · 05/01/2026 13:37

She was obviously planning to use lasagna as the ‘layer’ though!

Of course but she hasnt got any, therefore use the potatoes

Aubergine from another poster is also a good shout but will need pre cooking so thats a bit of faff.

Also OP seems to have cooked the potatoes, not entirely sure that would work in the layers unless you're happy to have mash in between the layers, which would also be nice.

The potatoes were to go with the lasagna, my family like some buttery boiled potatoes with it

I don’t think I can slice the potatoes-too soft 😬

Well then just single carb. Potatoes with sauce.

<mutters in Italian about British people fucking up lasagna>

Anonanonanonagain · 05/01/2026 13:40

Potatoes on the side of lasagna is a new one on me for sure.

TheChosenTwo · 05/01/2026 13:40

The boiled potatoes have thrown me too but they’ll keep for another day (or the food waste bin because boiled potatoes are an abomination!). We serve lasagne with a green salad, even my dh who is a big eater wouldn’t serve potatoes with lasagne!
he has aubergine parmigiana with a pork chop because he says it’s a side dish even when he’d serve himself 2 full portions 😂
Anyway I’d just make a pasta bake with your sauce, will be fine.

pinkdelight · 05/01/2026 13:40

X-posted. That’s a lotta carbs. I suppose people have lasagna with chips or garlic bread but never heard of buttery boiled spuds with it. Feels like a wartime dish but each to their own.

Why are you accusing everyone of being rigid then?

Dartmoorcheffy · 05/01/2026 13:41

Mix the cheese sauce into the meat mix. Top with mashed potatoes and grated cheese. Bake in oven. Italian cottage pie

Butterflyball · 05/01/2026 13:41

My husband has always had since a child instead of lasagne sheets.... pancakes. Weird but really works just make a few, cut them into the shape of dish and layer (obviously no lemon or sugar!)
No idea where his mum got the idea it's just how it is!

Coffeeishot · 05/01/2026 13:41

Do you have potatoes with lasange ? Anyway just make pasta bolognaise or layer with sauce and put the potatoes in the freezer for another day,

PGmicstand · 05/01/2026 13:42

Mash the potatoes and put on the top as a sort of cheesy cottage pie.

InterestedDad37 · 05/01/2026 13:42

Spudsagna 👍
(oh, just seen the spuds are too soft)
"Mum's Mince and Mashed Spud Special" 👍

Dartmoorcheffy · 05/01/2026 13:42

I made a lasagne with tortilla wraps instead of pasta sheets recently and that worked really well too.

Garroty · 05/01/2026 13:43

Boiled potatoes with lasagne is new to me 😂 just have the mince as a sauce with your other pasta and the potatoes on the side, that's no odder than having them with lasagne.

VikaOlson · 05/01/2026 13:44

Use the potatoes to make a moussaka or cottage pie type arrangement.

changednameagain1234 · 05/01/2026 13:44

I don’t understand everyone saying no potatoes with lasagna!!

Everyone I know has chips and salad and if feeling it garlic bread too.

I know that is a lot of carbs but so what!!

Oh yes this sounds lovely.

changednameagain1234 · 05/01/2026 13:45

Also, when you go for a pub lunch it’s always served with salad and chips…

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/01/2026 13:45

I’m imagining Joey, “meat, good. Cheese, good. Potatoes, good”. Objectively, lasagna with no pasta and with potatoes is a meal.

hollyandribbon · 05/01/2026 13:45

If you have spaghetti you could use that as the layer, spread out so it covers the sauce as a lasagne sheet would (it’s thin so will cook in the sauce like lasagne sheets)

I have never known anyone to have boiled potatoes as a lasagne side but this would save the whole meal.

Otherwise just save them for tomorrow and serve them with salmon and veg or something.

RampantIvy · 05/01/2026 13:46

wandawaves · 05/01/2026 13:29

Pastitsio? Greek Lasagne. You can use the other pasta you have.

I was going to suggest this as well.
if you cook enough pasta you won't need potatoes.

It isn't the carbs it is just the boiled potatoes that doesn't "go"

It’s not in Italy.

But I will admit to being someone who mutters “espresso” and “panino” at people passive aggressively. I did live there so that’s my excuse for being a purist.

Why are you accusing everyone of being rigid then?

J'accuse?

Cries of 'thats not lasagne' and 'you cant have lasagne with potatoes'

These threads are all the same, all the time, call it what you want, when you want, have it how you want, its ok

By the way I dont take myself or others too seriously, nice piece of advice there.
