Made the lasagna without the lasagna

Brainfogtothemax · 05/01/2026 13:26

What to do?

Just prepped for dinner, did all the mince with tomatoes, onion etc and made the cheese sauce, boiled some potatoes and went to get the lasagna sheets and don’t have any.
Not feeling 100% so cba going to the shops, how can I make it into a proper meal? I have some pasta I could use instead, but what about the potatoes? Save them for tomorrow 🤷🏻‍♀️

You can do layers of any cooked pasta and the meat and béchamel sce. It will still be fabulous.

Brainfogtothemax · 05/01/2026 14:11

Its not mash

You are being deliberately obtuse about your potato’s

Brainfogtothemax · 05/01/2026 14:14

ALittleDropOfRain · 05/01/2026 14:07

I‘d add cheese to the Béchamel, put it over the mince layer and and then do the mashed potato layer on top. Reserving a little cheese sauce for the top, but not too much to make it soggy.

It has cheese in

Then it's not a bechamel. It's a cheese sauce/mornay.

MissDoubleU · 05/01/2026 14:15

Ditch the pasta, make a cottage pie with the mince and potato’s and pour the cheese sauce on top.

if you really MUST use the pasta, make the “lasagne” using pasta like a pasta bake. Cheese sauce on top. Then have the potato’s on the side, as was your original plan,

stillavid · 05/01/2026 14:15

This thread is reminded me of when Rachel made trifle in Friends.

OP - freeze the béchamel and just serve minced beef and potatoes.

pontipinemum · 05/01/2026 14:15

use the regular pasta like lasagne sheets. put the cooked potatoes into the fridge when they have cooled and eat them tomorrow.

RandomUsernameHere · 05/01/2026 14:16

Have you got any neighbours who might have some spare lasagna sheets?

SliceofTosst · 05/01/2026 14:16

This thread has to be a wind up.

Thanksforyourlackofthought · 05/01/2026 14:16

Sauté the cooked potatoes in butter, serve alongside the pasta less bake.

Why are you struggling to change the dish to something else? You said you had other pasta, so just make pastitsio instead. What is the problem?

Happyher · 05/01/2026 14:17

Slice the potatoes and layer them on top of the mince and call it a bologna hotpot

DappledThings · 05/01/2026 14:17

So. Many. Potato's.

Who the hell is Potato and what belongs to him?

ObliviousCoalmine · 05/01/2026 14:17

OP are you 9? Why are all your replies so ridiculously awkward.

takealettermsjones · 05/01/2026 14:18

This is either a wind up or you're being really weird. Make a pasta bake and serve the potatoes with it like you were going to. Or freeze everything and go the chippy!

ISpyNoPlumPie · 05/01/2026 14:18

Just chuck it all. There are absolutely no possible ways to resolve this issue.

Perhaps Potato's gone to the shop for some lasagne sheets?

Does bechamel not have cheese in? I melt butter, flour, milk, then add grated cheese…I thought the cheese was the whole point, this thread is confusing 😂

Seems bland

I’m not going to chuck them though, hate wasting food
They’re really not bland with melted butter on and eaten with the mince and cheese in a lasagna-so good!

mash them and freeze

The thread is not the issue here!

Nope. The cheese is an addition which changes it into a cheese sauce. I add cheese if I'm making macaroni cheese. I don't add cheese to the white sauce in a lasagna.

diddl · 05/01/2026 14:22

I'd make it into cottage pie.

Have pasta & cheese sauce tomorrow.

wandawaves · 05/01/2026 13:29

Pastitsio? Greek Lasagne. You can use the other pasta you have.

Pastitsio uses just as specific a pasta as lasagne sheets

Thanksforyourlackofthought · 05/01/2026 14:23

Lasagne does not have cheese sauce. Bechamel is a white sauce. Cheese sauce is béchamel with cheese and (Hopefully) a little mustard.
Potatoes do not give in lasagne, on lasagne or with lasagne.
See above for chips.
