Made the lasagna without the lasagna

What to do?

Just prepped for dinner, did all the mince with tomatoes, onion etc and made the cheese sauce, boiled some potatoes and went to get the lasagna sheets and don’t have any.
Not feeling 100% so cba going to the shops, how can I make it into a proper meal? I have some pasta I could use instead, but what about the potatoes? Save them for tomorrow 🤷🏻‍♀️

I really don’t know at this point, everything I thought about lasagna since my childhood is a lie, Dh has never queried the boiled potatoes or cheese sauce though
I’m ringing my mum

I don't know why potatoes are in a post about lasagna except to make a very acceptable side of chips. But adding grated cheese to the bechamel sauce? Yes. Only don't do this is you don't have grated cheese/or dont like the eaters enough to bother.

FFS is this actually a post?? So many comments!

Jay1661 · 10/01/2026 19:01

Thinly slice the potatos and lay them on top of the sauce in your lasagne dish, season, add a knob of butter. The potatoes will roast on top of the mince sauce. Cling film the cheese sauce and whack it on some cooked cauliflour tomorrow.

I am Italian and this OP has confirmed everything I knew/feared about the culinary skills of the English 😮🫣

Why are people hung up on the potatoes? Surely it’s no different to chips? I think lasagnes weird with salad but that’s just my opinion, each to their own

Turn it into pasta bake. Cook the past mix it in, lay it in a dish, cover with the cheese sauce. Bake.

It’s equally as weird as eating lasagne with chips. Who would ever do such a thing.

My Uncle Ben is helping me with it tonight, he makes the best Tikka masala

See... You've killed it here for me with this one 🫣

No to jar sauces!!
It's so easy to knock one up quickly with 4-5 ingredients and you know what's going in it.
Check the ingredients out in the jar sauce. Why are there so many??? Don't put all that shit in you.
Pinterest for recipes but honestly, it takes no time to whip up a pasta sauce or a carbonara.

Love this thread though.
Your sense of humour is 👌🏼

Sorry I've gone on about pasta 🤷🏼‍♂️😊 but even a curry..... Might be a few more ingredients but you can get frozen diced onion for speed, passatta and a squeeze of tomato puree. Whack some spices in, garam masala/tandoori powder or whatever you want to do

This thread is hilarious!

I do hope you are feeling better now OP
In our house leafy greens are cabbage, kale, spring greens etc
Every meal we have includes 2-3 vegetables either in it if it’s a one pot thing like Spag Bol, or a risotto, or on the side.
My lasagne base is pretty much the same as that for spag bol- onions, garlic, red peppers, mushrooms and carrots chopped finely. I make a soffrito using all the veg then add the mince and a beef stock cube tomato purée and some tinned tomatoes. The only variation between the base for the two meals are the herbs that I add.
I also make pasta sauce by roasting up loads of vegetables (usually onions, courgettes, carrots, mixed peppers, leeks) then when cooked whizz up in the blender with with a good handful of wilted spinach and a few tins of tomatoes.

I do use jar sauces occasionally - korma and sweet and sour occasionally- but find the veg content really low and so many of them have added sugar.

Use any other pasta, layered. But potatoes?

Tomorrow they are having cottage pie and rice.....

Wow! You probably should read the whole thread, your response is not really matching the rest of the tone of the thread.

Right because the English know better than Italians how to do Italian food, and they need to be told.
