Made the lasagna without the lasagna

What to do?

Just prepped for dinner, did all the mince with tomatoes, onion etc and made the cheese sauce, boiled some potatoes and went to get the lasagna sheets and don’t have any.
Not feeling 100% so cba going to the shops, how can I make it into a proper meal? I have some pasta I could use instead, but what about the potatoes? Save them for tomorrow 🤷🏻‍♀️

Courgettes in January? Are you insane?!

It’s equally as weird as eating lasagne with chips. Who would ever do such a thing.

I fucking love the carby trilogy of lasagne, chips and garlic bread. 🇮🇹

But there’s a difference between a pasta dish and then potatoes on a plate and a slice of lasagna with a few potatoes on the side next to it, surely?! It just seems weird with the pasta dish. You also probably wouldn’t have a pasta dish with a plate of chips too, but a slice of lasagna with chips next to it is normal?!

I'm so confused by this assertion, lasagna is a pasta dish, so if you're fine with potatoes as a side to lasagna, there's surely no difference with having them as a side to pasta bake? It's almost the same dish but with different shaped pasta.
Also, I use chrese sauce in lasagna too, can never have enough cheese!

I am Italian and this OP has confirmed everything I knew/feared about the culinary skills of the English 😮🫣

I am also italian and totally agree. 😂

Kamthespor · 11/01/2026 10:43

I’m very confused as to what the potato’s were for? But you could layer them sliced instead of the pasta sheets, I imagine it would be quite nice 😊

So mash them and freeze them for another day.

Make pasta bake and top with the sauce and some extra cheese.

You seem to be making this much more complicated than it needs to be. Are you ok?

And you’re making suggestions for a meal OP ate six days ago. Are YOU okay?

Some of us English are better cooks than others, which is obvious from this thread.

I find this thread joyful and entertaining.

Why on earth would you need spuds with lasagna

Me too!

I love how well OP is taking it and playing along once she realized no one had heard of her potatoes.

my mum didn’t teach me to use bechamel - she just layered cheese! Still do that for myself sometimes, but for company do the ricotta way.

Chrissytommo · 16/01/2026 22:45

She obviously hasn't got a clue how to make Lasagne

Chrissytommo · 16/01/2026 22:50

She obviously hasn't got a clue how to make Lasagne. I think she's confusing Lasagne with Cottage pie or Dauphinoise potatoes

I don't think she has a clue how to make Lasagne. I think she's confusing it with Cottage pie or Dauphinoise potatoes

Do you think I don’t have a clue how to make lasagne? You should’ve said 😂
