Made the lasagna without the lasagna

Brainfogtothemax · 05/01/2026 13:26

What to do?

Just prepped for dinner, did all the mince with tomatoes, onion etc and made the cheese sauce, boiled some potatoes and went to get the lasagna sheets and don’t have any.
Not feeling 100% so cba going to the shops, how can I make it into a proper meal? I have some pasta I could use instead, but what about the potatoes? Save them for tomorrow 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP as answered what the potato’s were for

Yes, thank you; I posted whilst reading.
There's no apostrophe in potatoes either, of course.......

Bobiverse · 05/01/2026 13:58

Who serves potatoes with lasagne? And why would the potatoes be ready now, when dinner isn’t for hours?

Where are the leafy greens!

Schoolchoicesucks · 05/01/2026 13:59

If you were going to have lasagne with boiled potatoes, you can have bolognese pasta bake with boiled potatoes. Were the potatoes going to be served cold if you have already boiled them?

What about the potatoes?

You don’t need potatoes with pasta… obviously.

I think you‘ve just made cottage pie - mince with mashed potatoes on the top.

Should i pour the bechamel over the mash?

If you’ve got flour, an egg and a rolling pin then you can make the pasta quicker than you can get to the shop. Just have a quick look online for a recipe - it’s not hard.
Ignore any instructions to do it on the kitchen workbench (a bowl is less mess and the difference is negligible) or to use a pasta maker (you don’t need one for lasagne - just roll it flat).

The leafy green police are out.

Watch yourselves!

What about the potatoes?

If you would eat potatoes as a side to lasagne, why can't you just eat them as a side to a pasta bake? It's the same thing, just a different shape pasta!

SecretNameAsImShy · 05/01/2026 14:00

boil up some pasta, mix it with the bolognese top with cheese and slam in the oven! Pasta bake instead. Potatoes with lasagne though, not heard that before!

What-mash and the pasta too? -seems weird

but you don’t have lasagna/pasta so the poster is suggesting you mash the potatoes to make a cottage pie.

mumandgran24 · 05/01/2026 14:00

I have done lasagne or canaloni with cooked pancakes. Think it was a recipe from that Italian chef carlucci or something simular. Cook a few and layer them in the dish like the pasta. Or thin slices of potato would also be good.

I’m not going to chuck them though, hate wasting food
They’re really not bland with melted butter on and eaten with the mince and cheese in a lasagna-so good!

Then make a bolognese with cheese on top and spoon it onto the potatoes.

HelenaWaiting · 05/01/2026 14:01

Unless you were contemplating using a single pasta sheet, it's "lasagne".

Yes, it does seem weird, but you're the one who's cooking potatoes to go with a lasagna in the first place!

Agree with all of the above regarding using the potatoes and sauce to make a cheesy topping - yum! Then serve it to the family and call it "lasagna surprise"! 😁

AirborneElephant · 05/01/2026 14:03

If your family like potatoes with lasagne (weirdos 😆), why wouldn’t they like them with a pasta bake. Just mix the pasta with the cheese sauce (also cheese? In lasagne?) and layer it up like you would do the lasagne. Will taste almost identical.

Leafy greens…? It’s not summer!

So apparently:

Mash and pasta = weird
Boiled potatoes and pasta = not weird

I'm so confused....

Potatoes on the side of lasagna is a new one on me for sure.

People eat lasagna and chips all.the time.
