So I am hosting Xmas. Getting xyz for all variants of catering needs and tastes.

The ONE bloody thing for ME is a Salmon Platter featuring a Salmon Terrine. This is very important!

Salmon Gate is very competitive on the shelves. Due to the short shelf life of salmon pates it’s a bit of military coordination.

There is one acceptable salmon pate in the country. I know I have tried everyone. In the dark hours of last eve I have been informed the 25th dated drop for that was 3am this morning. Apparently in good quantity so later today I will sidle down to secure the pate.

I have perused the terrine options. On my late night travels last night I have scoped out all the salmon terrine options and drop times/ quantities. My most preferred option of which is the M&S terrine; now available as of 10.30 this morning. We have a small store so competition is on; lest I have to trek ungodly distance!

I tell DP he needs to get up and be there for its opening. 10.30 comes and goes! I say you are skating on thin ice! GET OFF YOUR BLOODY ARSE. Raised voices may have been applied.

Anyway he’s just left. Will he secure the goods? Has he left it too late? Will I be touring the country later today?

We’ve had issues with salmon terrine too over the years haha. My brother was the one who just had that ONE JOB one year. He’s ’weaponised incompetence’ in human form. But after M&S changed the recipe I started making it. It’s delicious but not as pretty.

And as the first poster said, it pisses me off no end that one person does literally EVERYTHING and the other half can’t be arsed to put in minimal effort to (let’s face it) do something nice for the person that’s doing nice things for everyone else.

I hope you get it but I've never known anyone to make this much fuss about one specific salmon terrine. Makes me want to try it.

He is usually very good. But I do not think he understands the urgency of salmon gate!

Having done the major Xmas shop last night to no less than FIVE supermarkets! I was not going to go this morning - and have allocated this ONE job.

I could have done it at one - but that would have resulted in either my taste buds dying or my bank account 🫠

So I carefully planned my tour and actually it was very nice solo tour. Empty shops. Lots of staff restocking so helpful for directions to the seemingly obligatory Christmas maze they have created.

I don’t eat fish, so am not looking to procure any terrier myself, I am highly impressed with your dedication to researching the availability of your favoured fish.

I hope you get it but I have to say I’m shocked that there’s stiff competition for salmon terrine, I struggle to think of something that sounds less appetising! (Along with mince pies, turkey, Christmas pudding etc etc, I don’t really like ‘Christmas food’ 🫣)

Then I remembered we are vegetarian and it passed. But by heck i felt anxious there for a second.
