Lighthearted very serious ramble 🤣

So I am hosting Xmas. Getting xyz for all variants of catering needs and tastes.

The ONE bloody thing for ME is a Salmon Platter featuring a Salmon Terrine. This is very important!

Salmon Gate is very competitive on the shelves. Due to the short shelf life of salmon pates it’s a bit of military coordination.

There is one acceptable salmon pate in the country. I know I have tried everyone. In the dark hours of last eve I have been informed the 25th dated drop for that was 3am this morning. Apparently in good quantity so later today I will sidle down to secure the pate.

I have perused the terrine options. On my late night travels last night I have scoped out all the salmon terrine options and drop times/ quantities. My most preferred option of which is the M&S terrine; now available as of 10.30 this morning. We have a small store so competition is on; lest I have to trek ungodly distance!

I tell DP he needs to get up and be there for its opening. 10.30 comes and goes! I say you are skating on thin ice! GET OFF YOUR BLOODY ARSE. Raised voices may have been applied.

Anyway he’s just left. Will he secure the goods? Has he left it too late? Will I be touring the country later today?

Dear reader please send safe Salmon wishes. I actually do feel quite some stress about this 😅

He better come home with it for you.

Can't stand spouses who do fuck all while their other halves get everything ready for everyone, and get arsey about being asked to pitch in a minimal level.

I lost my shit at DH yesterday after he didn’t open the bathroom window when he had his shower.

we have had quite substantial issues with black mould in the bathroom through not opening the window. the bloody children manage to do it so why can’t he ffs?

this was after I’d swept and hoovered the bathroom hoovered the stairs loaded the dishwasher and turned it on made the kids breakfast made him a bloody brew fed the dog chucked a load of rubbish out m, done a load of laundry and started on the kitchen clean.

I was about to hoover the bedroom when this argument happened and I would have cheerfully thrown him out of the window if his ego would have allowed him to fit fucking through it.

Salmongate · 21/12/2025 13:11

Oh Jesus! Just seen we are on trending!

Might have to go and get my pate now before all of MN run to the shops 😱

HE GOT ITTTT!

And I have artfully presented it for you on the tree 😂 (because the kitchen/ fridge is a tip)

Beautiful! So pleased for you OP, I hope you enjoy it!

I’m off to M&S…

LardoBurrows · 21/12/2025 13:17

I am immensely happy and relived for you Op. The person who does all the shopping and cooking deserves to have the one item of food that makes them happy. Your DH has had a lucky escape, this time.

TheHillIsMine · 21/12/2025 13:25

I've moved hundreds of miles and the only thing I miss is M&S 😭

people go fucking nuts over minor things like food

It's not mandatory to join in if you don't want to.
Just scroll on by. Oh nearly forgot MERRY CHRISTMAS.

JohnBullshit · 21/12/2025 13:32

Oh, @pouletvous . Really? It's not just food. It's...well, you know the rest.

I'm getting into a minor tizzy with my DH, and he not only does his share of shopping and wrapping, but hasn't done anything more wrong than fondly imagine that the normal shop we did last Thursday will see us through Christmas, and he won't need to go near any rammed supermarket car parks or wrestle with queues. Luckily for him, he's driving a relative somewhere and has no idea about these dark thoughts.

eyespartyparty · 21/12/2025 13:33

What’s the best pate then??!
I have added the terrine to my shopping list, it’s going to be sold out around the country 😂

Noras · 21/12/2025 13:35

I can’t get to the shops until the 24/12. Will there be anything left?

Please advise.

LaurieFairyCake · 21/12/2025 13:36

I am SO GLAD you got what you wanted, I was overly invested in this as I’m sick of seeing women who do so much get so little

FABULOUS!

Salmongate · 21/12/2025 13:04

Lovely surprise! If you need blinis I can report that Aldi have them a third of the price of Sainsbury’s/ Tesco/ Marks.

£1.25 for 16 👌

I also just have it with buttered toast slices

The Aldi Christmas offerings this year are brilliant. I snapped up truffle Brie this morning and about 2kg of frozen beige canapés for Boxing Day. How I will restrain myself to wait until then, I know not…

make sure he washes and clears up properly on the 25th lazy tw%t
train him better

latetothefisting · 21/12/2025 13:41

how do you have so much info about 'drop' times OP? Hmm
Are these solely salmon related or to specific stores, or do you have wider insider knowledge?

Pinkwhales · 21/12/2025 13:45

Brilliant thread, made me giggle and briefly forget about the bike parts spread all over the garage floor.... I may well spread hubby all over the floor too.

Beeinalily · 21/12/2025 13:46

Ooh you have matching Christmas tree decorations, how beautiful! (Misses point).

TimeForATerf · 21/12/2025 13:49

Oh god, how did I not know this existed, I have just read the description on the M&S food site. I want one, I've no chance this year have I? none whatsoever.

Oh well.

Monvelo · 21/12/2025 13:49

You've made me realise I want pate!!!

Ariela · 21/12/2025 13:50

On the strength of this recommendation @Salmongate I might saunter along to my nearest M&S and see if they have one.

justasking111 · 21/12/2025 13:56

@Salmongate have to point out salmon terrine is so easy to make. My DH has done it all by himself. So if anyone is fretting, dig out the recipe for your beloved to make.

Meteorite87 · 21/12/2025 13:59

Oh I'm glad the single thing YOU wanted was available OP!

Enjoy all of it, forget "sharing is caring" 😉

OldBurt · 21/12/2025 13:59

Can't wait for the marketing meeting at M&S in January when they’re trying to figure out why they ran out of salmon terrine.

PinkPanther57 · 21/12/2025 14:03

CluelessAboutBiology · 21/12/2025 11:53

I don’t eat fish, so am not looking to procure any terrier myself, I am highly impressed with your dedication to researching the availability of your favoured fish.

Please don’t resort to the terriers, however hungry you get or elusive the salmon proves.

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 21/12/2025 14:05

I'll be honest, this amount of unnecessary stress would absolutely suck the remaining joy out of Christmas for me. I haven't even started a Christmas food list, granted we are out for Christmas dinner and it's just a hot and cold buffet for us 4 and my brother in law and family on Boxing Day. So our buffet will be whatever is available in Aldi and Iceland when I do my supermarket dash early on Tuesday or Wednesday morning. However, I recognise that the salmon clearly IS very important to you, and hats off to you for the amount of effort you are going to for everyone. I hope they appreciate it. If something was important to me and my DH knew I was getting stressed about it, he would go out of his way to make sure he did what he could to reduce that stress, particularly as it sounds like it's you doing the majority of the work for Christmas. So here's hoping it goes to plan and have a lovely Christmas .

PluckyChancer · 21/12/2025 14:07

Gawd, I haven’t even begun to think about what we might eat on Christmas day.
I’ll be scouring the reduced section of Aldi on Wednesday as usual. 😂
