Why do men hate women so much?

I’m on the larger side, a size 18. Walking back from work with my headphones in and on my phone and a guy leans out of his car window (passenger side) in slow moving traffic, barks at me like a dog and calls me a fat bitch. Him and his mates in the car then crack up at it and find themselves absolutely hilarious as they’re crawling along next to me.

I know it’s silly to be so upset by it because it’s such a silly thing for them to do, but they took me by surprise and gave me a fright and I just don’t get it. Why are men like this?

I was called a fat cunt when I was about 28-29 years of age, and I was a size 12-14 (size 10 in today's sizings,) and 9 and a half stone (at 5 ft 4.) 25-26" waist at the time. I was slim, and still called a fat cunt.

To be honest at this point, seeing attitudes online and in person, I’m starting to fall off the “not all men” bandwagon. More and more it’s becoming clear very few men actually have respect for any women.

I’m not sure, I think it’s some weirdly indoctrinated idea that if a woman isn’t there to serve them in some way (i.e. by being found attractive) then they deserve anger / disgust / violence. It’s so sad!

The OP has been insulted, belittled and intimidated by a car full of men for no other reason than being a woman walking down the street. She is upset and has come here to discuss her experience. Yet the only thing you have to offer is to scold her because she didn't say 'some'? So obsessed with defending men you don't even have the decency to empathise with a woman.

It’s definitely not all men, the men in my life wouldn’t dream of doing something like that. But I don’t agree it’s just men, I’ve heard women being horrendously bitchy to other women.

In a word or two - because they can. They are insecure little people who are threatened by women's huge advances in the last 50 years or more, which has changed the gender role landscape completely. Whereas once before, such men could patronise women who did not threaten their superior and favoured status, eg. by being polite and "chivalrous", now those same men's grandsons resort to crude power play. To put a woman down is a temporary crutch to their crumbling egos. Just pathetic power play.
I am sorry you suffered this OP, there is no excuse for their loutish sexist behaviour. They are sad little people who bolster themselves this way. Don't let them take any more of your time and headspace. Treat yourself to something nice.

Of course you are upset. It’s horrible. I think men hate us because we make them behave. And they don’t want to behave.

Maybe not around you but stick them in a car of other men, make them relatively anonymous and I bet they would.

I’m a larger lady, and I’ve had a man call me a fat bitch when I dared to beep my horn after he dangerously cut me up when driving. He clearly couldn’t admit he’d done something stupid, so tried that tactic, and then got angrier when I laughed at him!

I don't know why some men are like this 😫 I have 5 adult sons and I can't imagine any of them doing anything like that! They have had a good role model in DH and his friends though - all throughly decent men who would call out any rude and disrespectful behaviour towards women if they saw it. Maybe some young men have arseholes for fathers and emulate them?

It's been a puzzle me since I was about 12. So well over forty years!

And it's a lot of men, too. The same men who become angry because women choose the bear. You know what's going to happen with a bear, but men you never know if they're going to be on the "some men" or "not all men" side of things.

I find their behaviour pointless. They must feel they lack something in their lives, I suppose, and to feel powerful they need to belittle or harm women because deep down they feel inadequate.

Similar has happened to me, OP. It really throws you off. They’re vile.

There are lots of good ones, but lots of absolute shitheads too and for some reason these are the ones that think we have any interest in what they have to say. The older I get the more I think it comes from a place of feeling threatened by women having a more solid autonomous place in the world.

I've never had a woman or even kids shout out anything nasty about my weight on the street, it's always men.

I don't know. They are just so angry that women exist, that the vast majority won't give them a second glance, and many of them are smarter than them, and more successful. They're rancid. Don't let it get to you.
