Why do men hate women so much?

growingsideway · 18/12/2025 17:18

I’m on the larger side, a size 18. Walking back from work with my headphones in and on my phone and a guy leans out of his car window (passenger side) in slow moving traffic, barks at me like a dog and calls me a fat bitch. Him and his mates in the car then crack up at it and find themselves absolutely hilarious as they’re crawling along next to me.

I know it’s silly to be so upset by it because it’s such a silly thing for them to do, but they took me by surprise and gave me a fright and I just don’t get it. Why are men like this?

I’ve never been abused or hated by males. Perhaps it’s subjective or who you allow into your life. . 🤷‍♀️

Aye because being called a fat bitch is subjective and I chose to have them in my life… as they drove past me in traffic

some men I think you mean.

I think the OP is entitled to her experience without others trying to tell her it’s wrong

It's not all men, but it's always men.

And the 'good' men are not speaking up when the bad ones are doing all this shit to women.

Fiftyandme · 18/12/2025 18:13

I’m with you, OP.

If men all dropped dead tomorrow the world would be a better place - that’s not because I hate men, it’s because I’ve watched the world for the best part of 50 years and it’s mainly men causing all the issues

TheSweetestCon · 18/12/2025 18:13

Anddddd.....victim.blaming! Right on cue.

Excellent. I can go and have my dinner now, comforted by the fact that these threads will always, always go the exact same way within a few posts. Well done, everyone.

Hope you're ok, OP.

BreatheAndFocus · 18/12/2025 18:14

growingsideway · 18/12/2025 17:24

I just don’t understand it. What’s their issue?

I find they do it for one of three reasons: to upset you or make you feel shaken if they perceive you looking happy or enjoying yourself - like trying to bring you down a peg or two because you’re happy in yourself whereas in their tiny minds you should be looking at them or looking sad or lost because you don’t have a man with you; because they’re in a bad mood or something as gone wrong for them so their natural reaction is to blame a woman; or they do it simply to show off front of their mates.

Put it out of your mind. They’re not worth a second of your time.

To be honest at this point, seeing attitudes online and in person, I’m starting to fall off the “not all men” bandwagon. More and more it’s becoming clear very few men actually have respect for any women.

And in the news today is the new thing to teach young boys to respect women while at school.

If we didn't need it so badly, this wouldn't be happening. Totally agree with you OP. I am beginning to think it's more men than not.

PoeticEnding · 18/12/2025 18:15

Men, in general, don't hate women.

But those vile men you met have so little regard for themselves, or others that they act like animals. They are the scourge on society that we all hate.

Anyahyacinth · 18/12/2025 18:15

It’s a need to feel superior, better than…many men in relationships with woman see the bonding they need to do is with other men. It’s not you OP, I worked with 2 blonde model type women who went jogging, I was appalled to learn men threw drinks at them from cars etc..

Its just insecurity looking for someone to dominate.

Yes of violence perpetrated by MEN. Got it now?

The title of the thread is, "Why do men hate women so much?" I fully accept that the majority of perpetrators of violence are male. But if the majority of victims are also male, then it isn't as simple as "men are awful and hate women" is it?

Horrorscope · 18/12/2025 18:19

5128gap · 18/12/2025 17:28

The OP has been insulted, belittled and intimidated by a car full of men for no other reason than being a woman walking down the street. She is upset and has come here to discuss her experience. Yet the only thing you have to offer is to scold her because she didn't say 'some'? So obsessed with defending men you don't even have the decency to empathise with a woman.

^This.

Hope you’re OK, OP. That’s a really horrible thing to have experienced.

Start your own thread then.

Jesus, apart from your victim blaming message, you're lucky.

All throughout my youth I had unwanted attention. I thought it stopped as I got older but no, still got one a year or so ago by a pervy neighbour.

It's also impossible to ignore the increase of online hatred towards women. All types of women. Look at comments/social media from celebrities, female footballers, and see the amount of threats, rape, death, discussing their appearance etc. Some of this spills into 'real life' too.

Yes OP. Absolutely your own fault for being out in public on your own.

For outright abuse you may mean ‘yet’.

For subtle forms of abuse such as medicines not being tested fully on women until recently or car seatbelts or any number of things were women’s needs are overlooked - I can assure you, IF you are a woman you have been affected

Onleemoi · 18/12/2025 18:20

Most men are nice to some people. Just because you can’t see (or choose not to see!) it happening it doesn’t mean it isn’t.

Try not to take it to heart OP. It’s no reflection on you.

This makes you no better than the man in OPs story

Hth

Yes it does 😭

The man is a weird insecure bellend who harasses women on the street

Men typically behave like this when they're feeling inferior to other men

BreakfastClubBlues · 18/12/2025 18:21

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 18/12/2025 18:09

I was heckled by a car full of men while I was on my bike once, they followed behind me with high beams on and beeped the horn, it was terrifying and I had no way of getting out of the way. Men don’t realise how scary they are in these situations. They just see it as a laugh or a joke, it’s not.

Men don’t realise how scary they are in these situations.

They do know.

They enjoy it and get off on it.

These abusive men all have mums, sisters and daughters. I wonder if these women are ever posting on Mumsnet about the lovely men in their lives.

No, no it doesnt.

You might think it does but it really doesnt

The man who harrassed op is inarguably a nasty piece of work i agree.

HelloPossible · 18/12/2025 18:26

It’s not personal so try not to be upset and take it for what it is a warning that there are deeply unpleasant men about who show their true colours when with their mates. I do think many men view women as interchangeable, so one runs out they get another one. Like pints of milk. Also worked in all male environments and the way they can talk about their wives can be absolutely shocking. I think that part of male culture many women haven’t come to accept yet, the disrespect of those they are supposed to love as presented to others.

Well, why don’t men,in general, do something about the vile ones?
