I've got an august birthday year 2, i just turned 40. She's my younger child, my eldest is y4.

FuzzyWolf · 10/12/2025 20:24

It will vary massively depending where in the country you are.

Here it is typically between 35 and 45.

PatMustardsBigTool · 10/12/2025 20:25

Not quite what you asked but my youngest is in reception and I’m also nearly 42

Daisyblue2 · 10/12/2025 20:25

I was an older mum. Well to my 5th i was 43 when she was in year one .

Strictlycomeparent · 10/12/2025 20:25

Mainly 35-45 with a few outliers either side.

familyissues12345 · 10/12/2025 20:26

I was 27 when DS1 was year one and 32 with DS2

TheCurious0range · 10/12/2025 20:27

DS is in y2 I'm 41 there are mums in his class from 27 to 50+ the vast majority are late 30s to mid 40s so you sound very average to me.

Katemax82 · 10/12/2025 20:27

By the time my youngest is year 1 ill be 49

TimSamandLulu · 10/12/2025 20:27

I would have been 34 with my eldest and felt pretty average at that age in my area.

lljkk · 10/12/2025 20:28

This reminds me of when youngest DS was in reception. I got to talking to another adult waiting for pickup. She was about my age... she was the Grandmother (!). 😚 I was already friends with her adult daughter too, but hadn't clocked how young she was.

TeaandHobnobs · 10/12/2025 20:29

I think it really depends on your area / school.
I was 34 when DC1 was in Y1, and 37 for DC2, but I had my first child earlier than many of my peers. Lots of parents at DC2’s current school would have been early 40s when their child was in Y1 - and that is their oldest child for many of them.

User0311 · 10/12/2025 20:29

I’m 34 and would say one of the youngest on the school run

Bushmillsbabe · 10/12/2025 20:30

Youngest currently year 1, I'm 43, was 39 when oldest in year 1.

2old4thispoo · 10/12/2025 20:31

With my oldest dc, I was 21 when he was in Yr1.

With my youngest dc I was 47 when she was in Yr1.

It really doesn't matter

Tammygirl12 · 10/12/2025 20:32

35 for my eldest

PollyPlumPeach · 10/12/2025 20:33

Mostly mid to late 30s, a few early 40s

Anon501178 · 10/12/2025 20:33

I was 34 when my oldest started Y1, will be 39 when my 2nd does and am expecting another who will be due to start Y1 when I am 43!

WanderlustMom · 10/12/2025 20:34

My DS is in year 1. I’ve just turned 26. All of the moms I know on the playground are roughly around mid 30s.

ladygindiva · 10/12/2025 20:35

I was 42 when mine were born. During first term of year 1 I turned 48 🤣

Posithor · 10/12/2025 20:35

I'm 40 next year I have my eldest in year 2, middle in school nursery and a 10 month old (so I'll be older than you when the middle and youngest are in year 1)

My eldests best friend was in the car with me a few weeks back and said something and I commented
"Well your Mum is a lot younger than me."
"How old are you about 65?"

It had been a rough week in fairness 🤣😂

Swissmeringue · 10/12/2025 20:35

When my oldest started year 1 I was 37, and the youngest mum in her class by a good 3 years. When my youngest is in year 1 I'll be 41, which is a perfectly average age in my experience.

GarlicBreadStan · 10/12/2025 20:36

I'm 27 and my son is in year 3. So I would've been 25 when he was in year 1.

TickyTacky · 10/12/2025 20:36

I was 27 & 29 as a y1 mum.

thefamous5 · 10/12/2025 20:38

I have a year 2 baby that was born two days before rhe school year cut off. I'm 40.

SockQueen · 10/12/2025 20:38

I was 38 and 40 for mine. Probably older than average for the class but not massively so.
