When my first child started year 1 I was 36 which was (I think) average or maybe slightly younger than average - though the older mums tended to also have older children too.

Youngest child, I was 45. Certainly in the top half age-wise but still not the oldest.

In both years there were a few mums still in their 20s but mid 30s to early 40s was the average I'd say.

ThatNaiceMember · 12/12/2025 12:15

I was 32 with my eldest and 39 with my youngest 💖

AutumnOcean · 12/12/2025 13:24

@31don74 @Mariammaom
Some of us are so awesome we do both! 😆 I'm 45 and my kids are 15, 18 and 5. I would not change one thing.

sharkstale · 12/12/2025 15:49

Ditto! 51 here, and kids 16, 14 and 8. 🤩

I remember being asked by a child if I was my dc's DGM (I was 51 at the time). I asked the child how old they thought I was and they said 24! Didn't bother me at all being asked as there were DGMs at drop off who were younger than me, it's just how life pans out.

Flumpsareyummy · 13/12/2025 18:33

I’m 43 and have one in Y10, one in Y1 and one in Nursery

Sweetheart1990 · 13/12/2025 18:41

My sister is the same age as you when her child is in yr 1. My son is in year 10 and I'm 33, it varies and I've usually been the youngest mum, most are a good 10 years older or more than me, so your definitely not in a minority 😌

Oldmumzero · 13/12/2025 18:59

I’m 51!
I swear I feel like the other mums mum 😂
very liberating though, I’m at the age where I don’t care!

Silentwhisper93 · 13/12/2025 19:19

My DD is in year 1 and im 29

mamabird2984 · 13/12/2025 20:46

I’ve got 3, eldest is in Y2 and and middle is in Reception. I’m 32. I think I’ll be 35 when my youngest starts school? Our cohort have a full range though - some people in their very early twenties, up to fifties. I think it’s lovely to have a range personally, it mean it’s not cliquey :)

NDFB · 13/12/2025 20:48

Our 5 year-old has just started Year R and we are both 53. So next year, when he starts Year 1, we will both be 54.

TheRosesAreInBloom · 13/12/2025 21:51

I was 53 when my youngest was in Yr1, she’s now Yr3 and I’m about to turn 55. I became a grandmother two weeks ago 👵🏻.

I’m the oldest class mum and was 30 yrs old when the youngest class mum was born! …that’s quite sobering 🤣.

Townupnorth · 13/12/2025 21:52

My son is in year 1 and I’m 49!
I have 2 daughters at uni and another son in 6th form so quite a gap. I know I’m the oldest year 1 mum but I’m just glad to be there 😊
