I'm 45, don't feel old at all, the other mums a lovely, There feels like no difference in age, we're all in the same place.

TheNameWasOnceChosen · 10/12/2025 21:15

I can't remember how old they are in year 1 but say 5 years old.
DS1 -22
DS2 - 34

I remember being in a baby group and became friends with a lady who had a daughter. She was 31 years old - and I remember tell my partner it was so odd she was so old. I'm glad I waited till I was 29 with my second.

19

I was 30 when my first child was in year 1 and felt insecure about being young compared to others.

Now I'll be 43 when my next DC is in year 1 and I feel old (in comparison to the other mums I know well) and a bit tired.

I prefer 40 year old mum-me. But I would like my 30-year-old-mum energy back. Oh the things I could do with it now...

Changingnameagain · 10/12/2025 21:16

Youngest doesn't start reception until next Sep- I'm nearly 39

MabelMoo23 · 10/12/2025 21:17

I was 47 hen my youngest was in Year 1. Man I am old! (49 now and youngest in year 3)

myglowupera · 10/12/2025 21:17

I was 26, 28, 30 and 34 when I was a year 1 mum.

Medicaladvice · 10/12/2025 21:18

I’m 29 and I’m pretty sure I’m the youngest mum out of our class mums. Quite sure I was by far the youngest out of the nursery mums too. I had my eldest at 24 and I spent the first year or two feeling super young - it held me back sadly, as most of the mums in my area are older (35+), so I struggled at the stay and play groups etc. Took quite a while to build up my confidence and stand strong as a woman as I always looked like a teen mum in comparison to the others! From what I gather being a 20 something and being a 40 something both face their own challenges.

DustlandFairytaleBeginning · 10/12/2025 21:19

I have a child in reception and I am 40, so we would be a similar age.

RaginaPhalange · 10/12/2025 21:19

I was 26 when ds1 was that age now 31 with ds2

Girasoli · 10/12/2025 21:20

I'm 37 with a year 1, I would guess most of the mums are late 30s to early 40s. One lady is 50 (she also has a DC at secondary school).

FcukTheDay · 10/12/2025 21:21

I wouldn't worry. You're not old! I am 36 and my oldest is in yr10 and my youngest yr6. It really does not matter, everyone has children at different stages of life depending on what's right for them.

Alittlefrustrated · 10/12/2025 21:21

I was 47

GoodBones85 · 10/12/2025 21:23

DS is in year 1 (September born so one of the oldest) and I am 40.

Parents of his classmates range from late 20s to late 40s.

I quite like being one of the older ones as (in the politest way possible) sometimes I see playground drama/politics at play in the parents WhatsApp group and I’m too old to give a flying f**k about it 😂

SockFluffInTheBath · 10/12/2025 21:23

I was 32 and 33, one of the youngest by a few years.

cocoromo · 10/12/2025 21:25

I was 35 with second and 30 with first - quite average in the north east!

insomniac1 · 10/12/2025 21:25

45!

somethingbeginningwithb · 10/12/2025 21:26

46

xxxwd · 10/12/2025 21:27

I was 33 with the first and 35 second time round.

Tacox · 10/12/2025 21:27

Mines year 3 and I’m 24 but was 22 when dc was in year 18

Movingtodarkestperu · 10/12/2025 21:27

ladygindiva · 10/12/2025 20:35

I was 42 when mine were born. During first term of year 1 I turned 48 🤣

Snap! I have a 14 yo (was 9 when my now y1 was born) and then we wanted another, tried and didn't happen so gave up and booked a big long haul holiday. Boom! Baby on board and covid- bye bye Dominican Republic, hello again Mr F-ing Tumble 🤣🤣🤣 wouldn't change it for all the tea in China but a nurse (back in covid mask times) did say... are you grandma on one visit to A and E (damn grey hair)

Freshstartyear25 · 10/12/2025 21:28

30 when elders was in y1, 36 with the middle and will be 40 for the youngest. Pretty average here

Elektra1 · 10/12/2025 21:32

I’m 49 and have a kid in year 2 so I wouldn’t worry. I’m not even the oldest mum in that year group. With my oldest child I was the youngest mum; now I’m one of the oldest. Most are I’d say between 35-40. Does it matter?!

Springbaby2023 · 10/12/2025 21:32

37 but when my youngest is in year one I’ll be 40 if my maths are right. I don’t think you sound old - similar ages to most mums at my kids school.
