People are just vile

holymoly56 · 13/06/2025 16:25

Numerous stories about the tragic air India crash all over my socials at the moment. The comments sections are fucking grim. Racist jokes, racist comments, conspiracy theories about the sole survivor, not to mention the gutter press posting photos and names presumably before passengers have been formally identified and families informed.

It’s as though people have become so detached from reality they just don’t care. The fact so many people actually died in such a horrible way seems to be lost on them. No sympathy, not even a respectful silence…they all just want to stick their two penneth in. It’s really bothered me today.

I haven’t seen anything like this at all. I’m primarily on X, but also Facebook & read The Times. Where are you hanging out?!

Mumofsoontobe3 · 13/06/2025 17:04

I've read some absolutely vile comments too. From grown adults!!! Outrageous. Those were real people, with real lives, families, children and careers. All wiped through one horrendous accident. It's gut wrenching and a true tragedy. My thoughts remain with the families who expected to meet their loved ones at Heathrow and are left with nothing but speculation, disgusting comments from the public and a gaping hole in their hearts.

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 13/06/2025 17:07

I tend not to veer into any of the comment sections. I wouldn't be forming an opinion on humanity based on this small group of people.

Mostly Facebook where the overwhelming number of comments on news articles have been fucking gross. I just can’t understand how are there are so many people who would respond publicly to a tragedy like this with sick jokes and racist comments.

You don't have to look further than the comments on any SKY news post

SeaShellsSanctuary1 · 13/06/2025 17:16

I absolutely agree OP, it is fucking disgusting and news posts on social media just encourages the mob mentality.

ArtTheClownIsNotAMime · 13/06/2025 17:18

It really is disgusting. But I know about the disgusting comments because I've seen posts across the web showing screenshots and bemoaning how awful the replies are. These people crave attention: starve them.

millymoo1202 · 13/06/2025 17:19

It’s absolutely awful, I’m disgusted at some of the comments I’ve read. I think you have honestly thought that and typed it, what on earth is wrong with you!

WallaceinAnderland · 13/06/2025 17:21

Your algorithms will decide what you see.

BellissimoGecko · 13/06/2025 17:25

@ArtTheClownIsNotAMime- Your algorithms might decide on the stories, but they don’t decide on the comments you see!! I’ve seen some stories from people/organisations I’ve never heard of on FB. And many of the comments are absolutely vile.

GinnyandGeorgia · 13/06/2025 17:26

I am sure they exist, but I haven't seen any comments like that.

Just ignore, your day will be much better for it.

Maybe my post wasn't clear - I've seen a load of posts like the OP's, highlighting the awful replies they've seen elsewhere. If it weren't for that I wouldn't have seen any racist comments.

Jonny234 · 13/06/2025 17:28

The point to note is the tolerant left is anything but. Woke lefty channels and platforms like the BBC, Sky, Ch4 news, Facebook spew out propoganda rather than news and attracts the worst. This is why they are all slowly dying.

X is circa 50/50 left and right and people can have a genuine discussion and if necessary agree to disagree.

Lenovogriffle · 13/06/2025 17:29

I saw some on an Instagram post. I couldn’t believe it.

Ddakji · 13/06/2025 17:29

Yes, people are vile but it sounds like your feed needs addressing.

ContraryNoodle · 13/06/2025 17:31

How weird! I have not seen any bad comments at all. In fact, all I have seen an outpouring of sympathy.

GCDPAF · 13/06/2025 17:32

I haven’t seen that because I’m not on socials, but the thing that has disgusted me are the photos of the poor family members who have lost people crying with grief and some fucking vulture photographer has captured that moment. Just WHY???

KenAdams · 13/06/2025 17:32

Leicestershire Live Facebook page is where they all congregate.

This is why it makes me laugh when people think there's no problem with racism these days. This was always there, its how people always felt. They're just brave enough to say it out loud now.

Have you read the comments on FB etc?
They are there, unbelievably people are liking them etc and they have their work details on their FB page and are pictured with children.

Dappy777 · 13/06/2025 17:34

I often wonder what goes on in the minds of people who laugh at these jokes. Take rape jokes, for example. Is it that, deep down, they are repressing an urge to rape and abuse and the joke releases the tension?

What really sickens me is the way people like Jimmy Carr are willing to pander to such people. He made a joke about Jimmy Saville having “f*cked more minors than Thatcher.” Notice how Carr is cunning enough to get in a dig at Thatcher. You see, I’m attacking Thatcher, so I’m cool and beyond criticism. One of my pet hates is left-wing comedians who are vicious and hate-filled and cruel but get away with it because they’re on the ‘right side’. Frankie Boyle is a good example. Or look at Jo Brand, calling for battery acid to be thrown in a conservative politician’s face.

This is why I so admire P. G. Wodehouse. He manages to be hilarious without being cruel.

ninjahamster · 13/06/2025 17:37

It’s absolutely awful. I’ve been totally disgusted by some of the comments.

LivelyMintViper · 13/06/2025 17:37

Don't know if it's true but I overheard someone saying the survivor opened the emergency door causing the crash. Of course that should not have been possible ..

Of course that's not true. The plane was still very low, an open door would not make it crash.

Or Daily mail comment section,no matter the subject matter there is always racist comments shoehorned in.
I don't understand how out and out racist comments are allowed to stand.

WhereAreMyKids · 13/06/2025 17:46

I've seen them and they are vile, puns about curries and side dishes, conspiracy theories but mainly shouting he's not British he's brown. Fucking disgraceful.
