People are just vile

Numerous stories about the tragic air India crash all over my socials at the moment. The comments sections are fucking grim. Racist jokes, racist comments, conspiracy theories about the sole survivor, not to mention the gutter press posting photos and names presumably before passengers have been formally identified and families informed.

It’s as though people have become so detached from reality they just don’t care. The fact so many people actually died in such a horrible way seems to be lost on them. No sympathy, not even a respectful silence…they all just want to stick their two penneth in. It’s really bothered me today.

Sorry, wrong thread.

Absolutely this. The lack of respect is appalling.

Completely agree, I’ve never complained to a media outlet before but I’m genuinely considering complaining to OFCOM about the footage on BBC news today. Appalling to film and show someone at such a deeply personal and tragic moment.

MrTumbleweed · 13/06/2025 19:32

Yes, horrendous. Reams of unmodified blatantly racist responses about the survivor.

Your algorithms will decide what you see.

No,not totally. Not all online marketing is driven by user pattern. Content can be unsolicited and appear on your SM. Companies opportunistically generate content and there is repetition of trending stories.

fussychica · 13/06/2025 19:35

Blimey, I've seen nothing like that on my news feeds or my local Facebook pages but I'm still not surprised. There are so many idiots and vile folk around, very little about the way some people act as keyboard warriors, or these days IRL, shocks me anymore.
There's plenty of nasty comments made on this "naice" forum, not about this but lots of other topics, so this kind of behaviour shouldn't come as a surprise.

holymoly56 · 13/06/2025 19:45

It’s also the sheer arrogance of people “well he couldn’t have been on the flight he just walked away he’d have broken legs if he jumped, he probably was a bystander wanting a free pass to Britain”. Not even in possession of the facts but so convinced their pathetic conspiracies are right.

SatsumaDog · 13/06/2025 19:47

I haven’t seen it, but it doesn’t surprise me. Unfortunately people think they can say what they like in these comments. Sadly it shows the true nature of many.

I totally agree!!! I left a comment on Facebook just highlighting that, what has the society come to?! There was an interview with the survivor and the vast majority of comments were about the survivor not being British and why the press is calling him British and the fact that he probably didn't speak any English...vile jokes about the whole thing...vile, just vile!

I feel like over the last few years things have gone backwards and people feel like it's absolutely fine to make racist and xenophobic remarks. I fear for the future, things aren't going in the right direction.

You need to complain to the BBC first. Then only contact Ofcom once you hear back from the BBC!🙄

Bamboozles · 13/06/2025 19:51

I was just about to post the same thing ….
Absolutely vile stuff online at the mo

Travellingpants · 13/06/2025 19:54

Yes. There was a Daily Mirror article on my Facebook full of racist comments. These people are just so brazen with their horrible views.

Travellingpants · 13/06/2025 19:56

And as a pp said, I was disgusted by that BBC interview.

Cathmawr · 13/06/2025 19:56

I would wholeheartedly recommend removing yourself from social media. Did wonders for my perspective on humanity!

Moonlightfrog · 13/06/2025 19:57

I agree OP. It really upset me reading the racist, homophonic and pure evil comments yesterday. Today I have tried to avoid reading any news stories on social media. It’s made me lose faith in humanity. All people are equal what ever race, religion or sexuality they are. People have lost friends, children, parents, brothers and sisters, people should show some respect.

Or don’t like any newspapers, news websites etc on SM

LavenderHaze19 · 13/06/2025 20:03

I agree OP. I found those comments really upsetting to read - and there are so many of them too, it’s not just a few isolated comments.

It made me question my belief that the majority of human beings are good.

Facebook is a hate cesspit. The sooner people start to get rid of their accounts the better.

Livelovebehappy · 13/06/2025 20:15

The human race in general is a cesspit. That’s the reality. Used to be the good people outnumbering the bad, but no longer the case. As I get older, I sometimes think a ‘reset’ of the world is needed - awful place to be currently….

Facebook is really good for medical problems. I have three health conditions I get no help or support for from the health service. I have managed to find out so much from these groups.

WestwardHo1 · 13/06/2025 20:31

One thing I have never understood about British racists. What exactly makes them think they are superior to an Indian, for example? Someone who may be an educated doctor or other professional, who has worked hard, become qualified, got themselves a well paid job, is paying their way? Why does your average knuckle dragging meathead think he is superior to that Indian person? On what possible evidence is he basing this opinion on?

When I was in Tesco the other day a minibus of Uzbeks arrived. I know they were from Uzbekistan because that is where farmers are having to recruit now. They come and pick our crops, doing jobs no one else wants, out there in all weathers, save hard, and then go home again. They are generally quiet, respectful and polite. A couple of absolute Neanderthals passed them and I could hear them sneering about wanting their fucking country back. I wish I'd been brave enough to say I wanted my fucking country back too, without people like them in it.

I recently deleted mine. It’s just full of crap and hateful comments. It would make your brain melt.

I haven't seen any comments on Facebook, but then I only have family and friends that I actually know on there, not friends of friends. You need to ser who's making nasty comments and delete them.

I don't have Twitter, Instagram or Tik Tok so I haven't seen anything horrible.

It's usually people commenting on News. So most likely not your friends but randoms from all over the country amd beyond.

RedToothBrush · 13/06/2025 20:47

Never mind the social media. I think the tone of interviews has been appalling.

I was watching an interview with a brother off the survivor and they were asking how he was feeling. They kept on going on about the brother who has survived and were completely dismissive and insensitive to the fact that his other brother had just died!

It was appalling. The interview just kept pushing even though he was distressed.

And that was the BBC!

I think its set a tone for the rest of the reporting and the comments that have been made. There's no way they'd have asked similar if it had been a plane full of White Brits at a British airport.

LaurieFairyCake · 13/06/2025 20:51

Racism has exploded, I don’t follow anything where you might find it and I’ve seen dozens of posts claiming no ‘Brit’s’ died. So evil ☹️
