People are just vile

Numerous stories about the tragic air India crash all over my socials at the moment. The comments sections are fucking grim. Racist jokes, racist comments, conspiracy theories about the sole survivor, not to mention the gutter press posting photos and names presumably before passengers have been formally identified and families informed.

It’s as though people have become so detached from reality they just don’t care. The fact so many people actually died in such a horrible way seems to be lost on them. No sympathy, not even a respectful silence…they all just want to stick their two penneth in. It’s really bothered me today.

I’ve not seen any but I don’t really read news, mainly watch it on tv and listen on the radio so thankfully I’ve avoided it all. Only seen it mentioned on here - absolutely sickening. Makes me so sad to hear about it (aside from the actual headline which is devastating enough).
Anyone reading the DM is surely prepared to be reading those comments, I’ve heard on here enough times to know what the comment section looks like. I couldn’t put myself through it. I know people like that exist but I’ve got no need to go looking for it.

rhomb · 13/06/2025 19:00

There are the homophobic comments about the couple who filmed themselves at the airport.

I find those who are racist, homophobic and other anti things from my experience, the most ignorant.

I'm so sorry to hear this.
It's heartbreaking
Just saw a pic of a family and their little dcs so excited on the plane before takeoff 😢

Sadly, that was my colleague and his family. A very kind, gentle man. Both well respected and experienced Dr’s. I’ve read comments about how they were just coming over to claim all our benefits.

The May Day call was because of lack of thrust and power failure, an open door wouldn’t cause that. I saw a video of a guy who was allegedly on the same plane on its last successful flight directly before the doomed flight and he said nothing was working on it - lights, steward call button, tvs, which would confirm it was struggling with power already!

If that's true then heads need to roll!! Someone IS responsible for allowing it to fly this tragic flight.

sarral · 13/06/2025 19:01

not read the thread, but I said exact same thing to DH this morning😏Read a news article( on Fb) and that was enough, the comments were absolutely vile!
I despair, I really do😓

The point to note is the tolerant left is anything but. Woke lefty channels and platforms like the BBC, Sky, Ch4 news, Facebook spew out propoganda rather than news and attracts the worst. This is why they are all slowly dying.

X is circa 50/50 left and right and people can have a genuine discussion and if necessary agree to disagree.

What fantasy are you living?

X is a cesspit of hate.

I’m on FB and haven’t seen anything disrespectful. The thing I didn’t like was the publishing of the photo of the sole survivor in his hospital bed , where’s the dignity / privacy .

I dont know I agree.

i was in hospital earlier this year& couldn't have given a FF if anyone had taken my photo & posted it everywhere.

if I was the survivor of something like this I'd be fine with it. He obviously consented to the photo being taken ( or they wouldn't have hit such a relaxed photo).

Mumofsoontobe3 · 13/06/2025 17:04

I've read some absolutely vile comments too. From grown adults!!! Outrageous. Those were real people, with real lives, families, children and careers. All wiped through one horrendous accident. It's gut wrenching and a true tragedy. My thoughts remain with the families who expected to meet their loved ones at Heathrow and are left with nothing but speculation, disgusting comments from the public and a gaping hole in their hearts.

Whilst I agree with you, they were due to land at Gatwick, not Heathrow.

nomas · 13/06/2025 19:08

anotherside · 13/06/2025 18:39

Ahh yes, Sky which is owned by that well know lefty Rupert Murdoch. FFS the utter crap people spout. 😂

Whilst I agree that Sky News is not left wing, it’s no longer owned by Rupert Murdoch.

Jonny234 · 13/06/2025 18:06

If you follow the right accounts racism is almost non existent. Maybe an odd stupid random comment in the replies by attention seekers but that's about it.

I maintain the worst are the woke left, 100%. It's currently in the process of eating itself.

@Jonny234 - do you know what “woke”means and where it comes from?

oh Ok, I will tell you.
Woke means you’ve woken up (had your eyes opened) to certain behaviours, you may not have appreciated were offensive to others and you’ve done this by trying to educate yourself. For example, until I educated myself eg asked black friends in more detail certain questions, I didn’t realise that they didn’t really like having their hair touched and were offended by this. This is a certain type of smaller example.

You may therefore find certain lefty types a bit more “testy” and that’s because they’re aware certain language upsets other groups of people and are trying to correct language or behaviour so other groups in society aren’t upset!! Some people who don’t understand this or have this emotional intelligence may just find it all a bit dull cos it’s only a bit of a larf.

I often wonder what goes on in the minds of people who laugh at these jokes. Take rape jokes, for example. Is it that, deep down, they are repressing an urge to rape and abuse and the joke releases the tension?

What really sickens me is the way people like Jimmy Carr are willing to pander to such people. He made a joke about Jimmy Saville having “f*cked more minors than Thatcher.” Notice how Carr is cunning enough to get in a dig at Thatcher. You see, I’m attacking Thatcher, so I’m cool and beyond criticism. One of my pet hates is left-wing comedians who are vicious and hate-filled and cruel but get away with it because they’re on the ‘right side’. Frankie Boyle is a good example. Or look at Jo Brand, calling for battery acid to be thrown in a conservative politician’s face.

This is why I so admire P. G. Wodehouse. He manages to be hilarious without being cruel.

Edited

I'm not sure I'd see Wodehouse as politically beyond reproach, as someone who did Nazi propaganda broadcasts aimed at placating the US during WW2, and, according to his biographer, genuinely never understood till the end of his days why people were so horrified because he was fundamentally impervious?

LakieLady · 13/06/2025 19:13

I haven't seen anything vile, but that maybe because I'm a woke leftie and get most of my news from BBC, Sky and the Guardian.

And I don't do FB, and only really look at comments on here and on a couple of politics forums. And one of those is so woke and leftie that any vile comments would be reported and deleted by the mods before you could say missile strike.

Zanatdy · 13/06/2025 19:15

Yeah my 17yr old DD was telling me that last night. Absolutely disgusting. My ex’s cousin was on board. Why do people think that they are lesser people due to the colour of their skin? Why do people not understand that a nationality (in most countries, but certainly the case in the UK) is not acquired solely on where you are born, or the colour of your skin. Makes me angry that people will raise this when hundreds of people have lost their lives. That loss is just as great no matter what your nationality or skin colour. I came off Tiktok last year when all the Jay Slater stuff broke as I realised it was full of fake news. Fortunately for my teens both parents are very interested in politics / world affairs and being mixed race themselves they do not hold the same views of these racist arseholes.

CountryMouse22 · 13/06/2025 19:15

"Frankie Boyle is a good example. Or look at Jo Brand, calling for battery acid to be thrown in a conservative politician’s face."

The one that gives me the heebie jeebies is Jimmy Carr. Dead eyes.

Some people are just abhorrent buts it's not a recent thing.

I visited the war grave of a relative about 15 years ago and the comments in the memorial book were horrible. It was a struggle to read the crap.

In the memorial book??

WTAF - that's beyond disgusting

Addictforanex · 13/06/2025 19:16

I know it’s awful. I looked at some comments on news articles I saw on my FB feed. Articles from BBC etc. Just bloody awful. What’s wrong with people?? 🥲

pinotnow · 13/06/2025 19:23

Jo Brand did not 'call for' people to throw battery acid at people (by people, read Nigel Farage). She made an ill-advised joke, yes, but she did not 'call for' people to actually do it. Remind me how many MPs have been murdered by far left extremists?

thetemptationofchocolate · 13/06/2025 19:23

People have always been horrible, it's just now they have somewhere to show off their vileness where anyone can see it.
I worked with someone whose sibling died in a big train crash. He said all the families had to go and ID the bodies and the Press were there in force. They didn't take pics of the families going in, they took them when they came out, upset, because that is what their readers wanted to see. This was in the 1980s.
Many will remember the ghoulish behaviour of many people after Princess Diana died, wanting the young princes to be put on show so they could goggle at two grieving children.
And this is why I generally prefer animals to people.

Etheral · 13/06/2025 19:24

Why are people reading the comments, just because they are there you don't need to read them, some you have to click on to read anyway

Sorry, still having problems with typing!

11 children, not 21.

doglover4ever · 13/06/2025 19:28

I have seen some absolutely hideous comments on FB but if you click on the profiles they are either as thick as mince with their XL dogs or new profiles that are there just to piss people off ! Basically people who will contribute fuck all to society !

lobsterkiller · 13/06/2025 19:28

Yup, DM comments and a few on X. Really revolting views, based on ethnicity and questioning the victims right to have lived in the UK.
