People are just vile

holymoly56 · 13/06/2025 16:25

Numerous stories about the tragic air India crash all over my socials at the moment. The comments sections are fucking grim. Racist jokes, racist comments, conspiracy theories about the sole survivor, not to mention the gutter press posting photos and names presumably before passengers have been formally identified and families informed.

It’s as though people have become so detached from reality they just don’t care. The fact so many people actually died in such a horrible way seems to be lost on them. No sympathy, not even a respectful silence…they all just want to stick their two penneth in. It’s really bothered me today.

Don't know if it's true but I overheard someone saying the survivor opened the emergency door causing the crash. Of course that should not have been possible ..

The May Day call was because of lack of thrust and power failure, an open door wouldn’t cause that. I saw a video of a guy who was allegedly on the same plane on its last successful flight directly before the doomed flight and he said nothing was working on it - lights, steward call button, tvs, which would confirm it was struggling with power already!

JumpingDizzy · 13/06/2025 17:48

Totally agree.
Some bitch put 'good' under a post. They should get done for that and any other racist or nasty remarks. Vile specimens 😡

hattie43 · 13/06/2025 17:48

I’m on FB and haven’t seen anything disrespectful. The thing I didn’t like was the publishing of the photo of the sole survivor in his hospital bed , where’s the dignity / privacy .

ExquisiteSocialSkills · 13/06/2025 17:49

GCDPAF · 13/06/2025 17:32

I haven’t seen that because I’m not on socials, but the thing that has disgusted me are the photos of the poor family members who have lost people crying with grief and some fucking vulture photographer has captured that moment. Just WHY???

Absolutely this. The lack of respect is appalling.

holymoly56 · 13/06/2025 17:51

Ddakji · 13/06/2025 17:29

Yes, people are vile but it sounds like your feed needs addressing.

Why? There are news stories everywhere understandably. My feed or algorithms don’t dictate what people comment.

If I had infinite time and resources I would try to alert the employers of these people and see how funny they think it is then.

The point to note is the tolerant left is anything but. Woke lefty channels and platforms like the BBC, Sky, Ch4 news, Facebook spew out propoganda rather than news and attracts the worst. This is why they are all slowly dying.

X is circa 50/50 left and right and people can have a genuine discussion and if necessary agree to disagree.

Never heard such rubbish!

Icecreamhelps · 13/06/2025 17:52

I deleted my Facebook account last year never had Instagram, twitter x whatever it is. I left because I couldn't cope the utter vitriol I was seeing. I think it's horrible how some people behave online.

JHound · 13/06/2025 17:54

This is the online world.

Racism is the norm especially on comments on news articles

nautys · 13/06/2025 17:54

Yes I agree OP. One of my colleagues was on the plane and I’ve seen multiple posts sharing his ‘story’ which is completely fake information. A fair few colleagues learnt of his passing via Facebook and The Daily Mail articles. The local news has even gone and interviewed a neighbour about him. Absolute gutter press. Hundreds of disgusting racist comments on Facebook posts. It’s been very distressing for people who had friends/family/colleagues on the flight.

JHound · 13/06/2025 17:56

WallaceinAnderland · 13/06/2025 17:21

Your algorithms will decide what you see.

This is false.

Everybody gets the same comments on news articles.

LBFseBrom · 13/06/2025 17:57

I haven't seen that but it doesn't surprise me one bit, it's always the way I am afraid.

Imsickofpettypeople · 13/06/2025 17:58

People are just horrible nowadays, both on and offline.

Silvers11 · 13/06/2025 17:59

SeaShellsSanctuary1 · 13/06/2025 17:14

You don't have to look further than the comments on any SKY news post

Well you aren't missing anything. I've seen a number on Facebook already - especially the conspiracy theories........ It's gross in my view

ginasevern · 13/06/2025 18:01

It has always been thus, but of course social media makes it more obvious. I remember working in a department full of "fine, upstanding middle aged men" in the 1980's. They made vile and utterly sickening jokes about both Lockerbie and the Zeebrugge ferry disasters amongst other things. It disturbed and upset me for a very long time - still does. These men were public school educated, pillars of society in positions of power.

I'm guessing most aren't employed.

WhyWouldAnyone · 13/06/2025 18:04

I haven't seen anything other than shock and sympathy. I don't really look at news on social media though, so it doesn't come up on my feed.

But yes, there are some vile people in this world.

Edited

I'm so sorry to hear this.
It's heartbreaking
Just saw a pic of a family and their little dcs so excited on the plane before takeoff 😢

Moonlightdust · 13/06/2025 18:05

It’s such an awful tragedy. I can’t stop thinking about all those lives lost 😞 How anyone can make any comment other than a compassionate one is beyond me. These are human beings, they have loved ones!

Have to disagree with you on that. I only have following on my Twitter feed and it's mostly okay. However I did venture into one comment section because the post is from someone I like, just to give sympathy and some of the posts were horrendous - racist and homophobic. I've been doing a fair bit of blocking.

My Facebook is friends and family I know only. I don't venture into a post I don't know and strangely there's been a lot of them.

I agree @holymoly56 it's vile. Take care x

ExpressCheckout · 13/06/2025 18:05

I've not see anything like this, but not surprised. In the UK, Reform are gaslighting people and whipping up racism. So, I guess it's not going to get any better. In fact, the nastiness is going to get worse, I think.

Anyway, OP, the social media algorithms think that you will enjoy this kind of content ... if you don't want to see this, then just stick to traditional media outlet websites and ignore the comment sections.

JHound · 13/06/2025 17:57

X is the most toxic of them all.

If you follow the right accounts racism is almost non existent. Maybe an odd stupid random comment in the replies by attention seekers but that's about it.

I maintain the worst are the woke left, 100%. It's currently in the process of eating itself.

Roselilly36 · 13/06/2025 18:06

I agree, beyond awful. Those poor families, just heartbreaking.

mambojambodothetango · 13/06/2025 18:08

Some of them will be bots and some are trolls who just jump on any bandwagon for clicks. But sadly, many are walking among us and present as nice people in public.

You think ‘the worst’ racism online comes from ‘the woke left’?
