How often do you wash your towels?

Random post but I keep seeing it pop up in articles about how you only need to wash your towels once a week, I wash mine after each use, is this not normal?

2 or 3 times a week unless visibly dirty. I have 2 showers/baths a day and there's 7 of us in the household so it would be never ending.

BashfulClam · 12/06/2025 18:16

Bath towels-once a week as they are old drying up water on a clean body. I change the tea towel and hand towels every day though but they get washed with the other towels once a week.

JohnsShirt · 12/06/2025 18:17

Every ten minutes.

AmelieSummer25 · 12/06/2025 18:17

I don't have a strict rota as I do it when it's good drying weather outside (all year around preferably. But if it's a longer stretch of rain I'll do them on a day when I'm not doing clothes). And put them on the inside airer (I don't have, or want, a drier)

id say it averages every 3/4 days, not more than a week, but not after every shower either.

my washing line is convenient, so I'll often put then in the line after a shower & always hang them up to dry.

They really don't need to be washed each time, honest.

steff13 · 12/06/2025 18:17

1-2 times a week. We have four people and ten bath towels.

MrsMoastyToasty · 12/06/2025 18:18

Once a week unless visibly dirty. If they are showing dirty marks it means someone hasn't washed properly!

DepositSaverUpper · 12/06/2025 18:18

Every other day. Our bathroom window is tiny to try and keep it aired and I find the towels don't dry properly so can have a smell to them

Unicornsandprincesses · 12/06/2025 18:18

Omg 2-3 times a week 😳😳😳😳

mine are lucky if they get done 2-3 times a month

BitOutOfPractice · 12/06/2025 18:18

I wash them again as soon as I put them out. In case of poo crumbs.

No op washing them after every use is not normal. It’s also terrible for the planet, for your bills, and for the towels.

Ddakji · 12/06/2025 18:18

Every couple of weeks. Ish.

MummaMummaMumma · 12/06/2025 18:19

Handed towels every day.
Bath towels twice a week.

RalphWiggumsCrayon · 12/06/2025 18:19

Don’t have a particular schedule, just whenever I feel they need it, probably averages out a twice a week. Kitchen towels more often.

Emotionalsupporthamster · 12/06/2025 18:20

Total waste of energy! Once a week is sufficient.

Lookingforwardto2025 · 12/06/2025 18:21

Once a week. If we all used the same loo then hand towels would need to be done more often but we have 6 loos so no towel gets used too often.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 12/06/2025 18:21

Bath towels maybe once a week . 4 adults. I figure I'm drying my clean body so it's not " dirty " . Or if my youngest slings it on the bedroom floor to go damp and crusty then that'll get washed immediately

UName38 · 12/06/2025 18:21

Once a week should be my normal but nosebleeds mean often more frequent. Just me and I don’t wfh so things like hand towels get less use than in a family.

Sortalike · 12/06/2025 18:21

Let me see now....got married 10 years ago, towels were a wedding present, and have used them daily since... To be honest they could probably do with a wash...

99victoria · 12/06/2025 18:21

When they're dirty or when I'm expecting guests 😂

Flocke · 12/06/2025 18:22

JohnsShirt · 12/06/2025 18:17

Every ten minutes.

Is that all?? Terrible!!!!

(I miss the laugh emoji)

In all honesty, I don’t have a set routine. Maybe every two weeks. It’s been longer recently as our washing machine died and I’m catching up on more urgent washing.

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 12/06/2025 18:23

I wash mine 24/7. You can never be too careful.

Devilsmommy · 12/06/2025 18:23

Tea towels probably 3-4 times a week. Bath towels after two uses. 3 people in house

Bananalanacake · 12/06/2025 18:24

Once every week or 10 days. DH uses bath sheets they are larger than bed fitted sheets, if he expected them to be washed after one use I would laugh at him. I'd have thought with the cost of living and bills going up people would stop washing everything all the time when clothes and towels don't need it.

RosesAndHellebores · 12/06/2025 18:24

Weekly. We use separate towels in separate bathrooms so don't share them. We have a bath sheet, bath towel and hand towel each, plus a bath mat and a face flannel. I'm 65 and have never shared towels.

Downstairs bog, fresh towel every day.

Chocolateorange22 · 12/06/2025 18:25

JohnsShirt · 12/06/2025 18:17

Every ten minutes.

Gross, why aren't you doing them every 5?

Cynic17 · 12/06/2025 18:25

When I remember! After every use is incredibly wasteful, because they've been used on clean skin/hands.
