Random post but I keep seeing it pop up in articles about how you only need to wash your towels once a week, I wash mine after each use, is this not normal?

Once a week.

CloudywMeatballs · 12/06/2025 21:20

I can't believe that you genuinely thought it was normal to wash towels after every use! Just why? What terrible thing do you think is going to happen if you hang it up to dry and then reuse it the next day?

Weekly is more than enough, presuming they're being used to dry clean bodies. To be honest, it can sometimes be several weeks in-between towel washes in my house because I forget about it.

BoudiccaRuled · 12/06/2025 21:20

After each use is completely unnecessary and a massive waste of water, as well as your money. Surely your towels wear out?
Every week or two is fine, you use them on your clean body.
Unless there's a drip feed coming that you wipe your arse on them too...

Flomingho · 12/06/2025 21:21

Hand towels are changed every other day and bath towels are after every two uses. A towel per person. They wouldn't feel fresh if washed any less than this. If we have guests they would be given clean towels every day.

vickylou78 · 12/06/2025 21:22

Once a week here (sometimes 10 days!) but we all have our own bath towels and we are using them on clean bodies and leave them over an airer to dry after a shower so they are fine being used for a week.

T towels and hand towels more regularly.

Talkinpeace · 12/06/2025 21:22

When the ecosystem on them evolves enough to ask

every few years

Oh dear I'm ashamed . There's only me and DH here now so the bath towels maybe once a month hand towels every week . Tea towels get a boil wash every now and then . when we ve got family round I make sure there's clean towels

Why ashamed?
People washing clean towels every two minutes should be ashamed of their ridiculous nonsense.

Pickingmyselfup · 12/06/2025 21:24

On average weekly, sometimes it might be after 4 days, others after 10. I think weekly for towels and bedding is just right but I don't panic if it stretches to weeks. Life is busy, I have other stuff to be doing other than washing but I find aiming to do it weekly stops it from stretching on and on. I also include bathmats and hand towels in the towel and bedding wash too.

Tea towels are another story, they are constantly being kicked around the floor so constantly being put in the wash.

Once every two weeks and the same (usually) for bedding. So alternate weekend washes. Makes sense for the planet, our bank account and my sanity.

I do exactly the same. They never seem dirty or smelly. Can't imagine daily washing.

Cheese55 · 12/06/2025 21:33

How do towels get dirty? I wrap it around my body after the shower and then take it off when I'm dry....?

MatriarchCaz · 12/06/2025 21:34

Bath towels about once a week, tea towels every couple of days.

Youranus · 12/06/2025 21:35

Sahara123 · 12/06/2025 21:36

When I think of it.
After every use is not normal, there’s absolutely no need.Your electricity bill must be huge. Please don’t tell me you tumble dry them too …

ThePoshUns · 12/06/2025 21:38

Every 7-10 days. We each have our own towels. That’s plenty.

Flamingoknees · 12/06/2025 21:44

Bath towels, each have our own, mine 3 times a week (I swim) and theirs weekly, when I deep clean the bathrooms. Bath mats also. Kitchen towels also weekly (the tea towel doesn't get used to dry dishes. I drip/air dry them) .
I already wash daily, so have no intention of being shamed into more frequently, even if you call me a minger.

Todayisaday · 12/06/2025 21:45

Once a week or even every two weeks. We have each our own towel and shower daily, sometimes twice a day so we are quite clean (i hope). The towels dont smell or look dirty so i figure theyre ok and we havent got any skin conditions from this frequency, they get hung out spread out over the bannisters upstairs which is kind of a square around the staircase, so they dry out and air properly after use.
Our towells are also giant, super thick towells bigger than bath towell so they fill the washing machine, cant just chick them in with other stuff as its pretty much 2 wash loada to wash 4 towels

I also wash towels after every use...seems we are in the minority

Well, of course you are. It’s a colossal waste of time, money, energy and water and completely unnecessary.

RaininSummer · 12/06/2025 21:54

Each use is absolutely crackers.

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 12/06/2025 21:54

Aim for once a week.....

SociableAtWork · 12/06/2025 21:55

JohnsShirt · 12/06/2025 18:17

Every ten minutes.

So slovenly. I hope you’re ashamed of your low standards 😉

Eenameenadeeka · 12/06/2025 21:56

I always wash after every use. Dont like getting dry with a damp towel

StillTheOne · 12/06/2025 22:04

After each shower. I hate damp towels hanging everywhere.

Hand towels and tea towels get changed once a day,

DwarfBeans · 12/06/2025 22:10

Do people share bath towels?! We have our own (wouldn’t even think to share) and wash them once a week.

WhiteBluebells · 12/06/2025 22:13

Twice a week, so every 3 to 4 days depending on how manky they smell.
Every use is just wasteful.
Hand towels twice a week.
