How often do you wash your towels?

Random post but I keep seeing it pop up in articles about how you only need to wash your towels once a week, I wash mine after each use, is this not normal?

Take a shower towel - it's only taking off the excess clean water, air it properly, it should be good for weeks and weeks! Gets washed when it doesn't smell fresh anymore!

Zanatdy · 12/06/2025 19:33

No way I wash them every week, maybe every 2wks, depends really. Even my mother has stopped washing her towels after every use!

Moier · 12/06/2025 19:35

I'm with you OP.. after every use.
Dried skin cells on a towel is a big 🤢 for me.

Mandarinaduck · 12/06/2025 19:39

Around once a week for bathrobes and bath towels, sometimes a bit less. Every 3 days or so for hand towels.

Some people are really going to struggle after the apocalypse.....

How many towels do you have then, given I don't imagine you're literally washing a towel every day? And how do you store them?

Genuinely curious. We wash a minimum of once a day and there's three of us, so that would be three towels a day, seven days a week, in with the other washing that's a lot of towels required.

Hottchoc · 12/06/2025 19:40

After each use

Lourdes12 · 12/06/2025 19:43

once a month

suburburban · 12/06/2025 19:44

We’re being told in the UK to be more aware of water and possible shortages so I don’t understand the concept of washing towels after one use

rhomb · 12/06/2025 19:49

Weekly. Wash all the towels in one wash.

washing daily - are you a hotel?

Omg 2-3 times a week 😳😳😳😳

mine are lucky if they get done 2-3 times a month

I'm glad you said it 😅

Whistlingformysupper · 12/06/2025 20:04

I don't really get how some people's brains work.

Or maybe some people don't wash properly when showering?

Otherwise, surely, you get out if the shower all lovely and clean. Exactly how is your clean body managing to make the towel dirty when you just washed?!

Every 3 months

because I’m clean getting out the bath

and the environment

Omg.

I can't believe people use dirty towels for months?! Wow

Are you suggesting that a towel still smells fresh after weeks and weeks?

I wash them after every use. Always have, always will.

But haven't you just washed yourself so you are clean??? Why would the towel be dirty

No, I admit I don’t put a load of washing on everyday but towels will go in the wash basket and then when I’m doing a wash they go in with my washing anyway, but I do use a new one each time, not sure why as it appears it’s just me, I guess habit or all I’ve ever known?

cherrycola66 · 12/06/2025 20:15

I genuinely didn’t realise people reuse, maybe I need to start 🤔

How many towels do you have and where do you store them?

We have a small house and there's three of us, if we each put at least one towel a day in the washing basket we'd have 21 towels a week to wash, plus the three we'd need for the day they were being washed/drying.

PomeloOud · 12/06/2025 20:16

Have any of you sent a child off to uni with a bale of towels? Said child only washes said towels every 3 weeks, if that. Would you like to dry yourself using these towels that are ‘only used to dry a clean body’ and dried thoroughly between uses? Let me tell you, that’s a no.

Would you class a towel that's been used for weeks as a clean towel then?

Yes! What do you think would happen if you did? What would be the downside?

Plus all the energy usage... are people also using driers to launder multiple towels every day/week?!?
