How often do you wash your towels?

Random post but I keep seeing it pop up in articles about how you only need to wash your towels once a week, I wash mine after each use, is this not normal?

OP posts:

Once a week for bath towels unless ill or visibly dirty - we use old cheeky wipes to dry bits and they get washed after one use but that doesn’t make much more washing. Hand and tea towels daily.

yeesh · 12/06/2025 22:18

Where do they go once they have been used? I’ve never really thought about being odd to wash them every time. I don’t have a big family, that might make a difference I suppose.

Lovingthelighterevenings · 12/06/2025 22:24

Wow. Even hotels don't change the towels every day.

If you wash your towels everyday, how frequently do you change your sheets?

BountifulPantry · 12/06/2025 22:30

When they start to get pongy.

I sleep standing up to avoid dirtying my sheets. But even so I move house daily to a fresh clean house because I just couldn’t feel clean otherwise. I burn the old house down.

More often when the heating goes off because the towel rail is useless. I put them in the conservatory but it's not as good.

yikesanotherbooboo · 12/06/2025 22:42

I wash towels weekly . They dry things that are clean. I don’t have a dryer so have never been tempted to dry them in between. I’m

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 12/06/2025 22:47

Once a week, I have a small house, no tumble drier, I think I’d get a damp problem if I washed the bath towels daily.

Once every two weeks and the same (usually) for bedding. So alternate weekend washes. Makes sense for the planet, our bank account and my sanity.

I do much the same. Honestly, what is wrong with people that they need to wash everything after one use? Where I live there is advice via the TV to not wash things too frequently.

Oh I love my washing line but towels are SO GOOD after a tumble dry. All soft and fluffy.

😂

I don't like them soft & fluffy!! I like them having a bit if attitude!!

We tumble dry absolutely everything, but if I could possibly be arsed to line dry anything (and the first thing we did when we bought our house was get rid of the washing line that stretched the entire length of the garden), it would be towels. I love a crispy, hard towel.

Flidina · 12/06/2025 23:14

3 of us here and we each use a clean towel every day, tea towels we use 2-3 daily.

BettyBobble · 12/06/2025 23:16

When they smell fusty 🤣. Once a week or twice depending. There's o lay two of us and we have our own towels

ZemblanityZen · 12/06/2025 23:20

I use paper towels then burn them

Hang them up on the towel rail, making sure they are spread out and not bunched up so they can air and dry properly.

DontTouchRoach · 12/06/2025 23:45

I don’t wash the towels; DP does. I just asked him how often he does them and he said ‘Dunno really. About once a fortnight?’ I suspect it’s less often.

There’s only us two in the house and the towels are only getting used on freshly washed bodies and always smell clean so frankly I couldn’t give a damn if they didn’t get washed for month.

whitewineandsun · 12/06/2025 23:52

Bath towel every week and hand towels every other day. It's only me here day to day.

In case I've had guests stay over, their hand towels and bath towels are changed every day and bath towels every three days, respectively.

For guests visiting afternoon/evening, I change the hand towels before they arrive and again when they leave.

And I just realised you said 'wash'. Once every two weeks. I have a lot of towels.

Birdh0use · 13/06/2025 00:01

Monthly but aim for fortnightly. Same as bedsheets

Wakeywakey678 · 13/06/2025 00:03

BitOutOfPractice · 12/06/2025 18:18

I wash them again as soon as I put them out. In case of poo crumbs.

No op washing them after every use is not normal. It’s also terrible for the planet, for your bills, and for the towels.

This made me LOL 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

twlighteaser · 13/06/2025 08:31

Once a week with the bed sheets in winter. Now it's hot, very humid and over 30° at night ( I'm not in UK) bed sheets are changed every other day and bath towels twice a week as we're showering twice a day.

AmelieSummer25 · 13/06/2025 09:07

cherrycola66 · 12/06/2025 20:15

I genuinely didn’t realise people reuse, maybe I need to start 🤔

Yeah, it really isn't necessary to have a different towel each time. But just make sure you hang it up to dry. You do get (invisible) skin flakes etc on them so I was them every 3-7 days (usually put the wash on on a hood drying day & when there's not a clothes wash thst needs doing, so it just depends)

Leaving it weeks 🤢🤮

Swiftie1878 · 13/06/2025 09:10

Weekly, unless obviously dirty/smelly (for whatever reason!)

Amiunemployable · 13/06/2025 09:24

There's no schedule, but I aim for once a month.

After every use is absurd. Even twice weekly is. Tbh, I think once weekly is overkill, too!

Who has time for that? I have other washing that needs doing. I'd never be able to do other washing if I was constantly washing towels! Same for bedding. Aim for fortnightly but usually ends up being once a month.

RosesAndHellebores · 13/06/2025 09:27

I'm surprised to read so many posts that indicate people/families share towels. We never have but if others were using my towels, I'd want them washed more often.

slowlydecaying · 13/06/2025 09:32

after each use
