How often do you wash your towels?

Random post but I keep seeing it pop up in articles about how you only need to wash your towels once a week, I wash mine after each use, is this not normal?

OP posts:
JaceLancs · 12/06/2025 19:06

I change my bedding weekly and at same time wash towels, bath mats etc

Livpool · 12/06/2025 19:07

Every week to 10 days

mugglewump · 12/06/2025 19:07

Every one to two weeks, depending on how busy I am, the weather (can I dry outside?) and how much other washing I have to do. Overwashing wears the towels out and they only go on clean skin. Dog towels I wash after each use. So surprised how super often some people wash towels. Your water and energy bills must be through the roof!

PomeloOud · 12/06/2025 19:09

Every 2 or 3 days. 60 degree wash.

I use a bath sheet three times and change it
Hair towel daily

Why on earth do you need to change a hair towel daily???

LaurieFairyCake · 12/06/2025 19:16

Every 3 months

because I’m clean getting out the bath

and the environment

fetchacloth · 12/06/2025 19:16

I do a weekly towel wash which consists of 2/3 x bath towels, 4 x hand towels, some tea towels and flannels. This is just for me but most towels get used more than once during the week.

TrixieFatell · 12/06/2025 19:17

We use a bath towel twice, then it gets washed. Hand towels get changed every day. Tea towels changed daily. I do 1-2 loads of towels each week, these also include the reusable face wipes and face towels.

WhereAreWeNow · 12/06/2025 19:17

Hand towels weekly. Bath towels every couple of weeks.

Complet · 12/06/2025 19:17

Do people not wash properly in the shower? Why are you washing towels that have been used to blot a bit of clean water after every use?!!

No wonder we are going to have to spend billions of pounds building new reservoirs. I hope all these daily towel wash people are on a meter!!!

But why? Presumably all these towels dry clean things.

choccytime · 12/06/2025 19:20

Oh dear I'm ashamed . There's only me and DH here now so the bath towels maybe once a month hand towels every week . Tea towels get a boil wash every now and then . when we ve got family round I make sure there's clean towels

Natsku · 12/06/2025 19:21

Not even every week. We're clean when we use towels, they aren't getting that dirty. And I already have to put a wash on every day to keep up with the laundry pile so I literally don't have time to wash towels more often.

Coffeeishot · 12/06/2025 19:24

I collect mine up and do a towel wash once a week. It's just 2 of us here but when my dcs lived at home I was washing towels every other bloody day !

Ketzele · 12/06/2025 19:26

I live with pigs (teenagers) so wash them more than I would on my own. Probably every 3 uses, but sooner if theyve been left to moulder in a damp heap. Hair towels very rarely (WHY would they need daily washing?!), tea towels daily. My sheets weekly, the teens less often (not through want of trying). Everything gets washed together, because I cba to do it any other way.

Namechangedasouting987 · 12/06/2025 19:26

When I remember, which frankly isnt often.

99victoria · 12/06/2025 18:21

When they're dirty or when I'm expecting guests 😂

Beat me to it!

OllysArmyRidesAgain · 12/06/2025 19:27

We have our own towels, they get washed every other week normally, I use mine daily as I get out the shower for a quick dry then hang it in the airer. I mainly air dry and hope that I’m clean after the shower. Bedding is also done 2-weekly except in the summer if it’s hot then it’s weekly.

There is only me and my husband.

Kitchen and cloakroom get fresh towels weekly or more frequently as needed and then these get washed with the bath towels.

I don’t have the time or the inclination to wash more frequently. I also only generate 1 load of dark washing a week and a light was every 2 weeks. DH has more as he commutes to work and goes to the gym everyday. He does his own washing and ironing.

BruhWhy · 12/06/2025 19:28

When they smell.

cramptramp · 12/06/2025 19:29

I don’t actually dry myself with my towels. I just wrap one around me when I get out of the shower and dry naturally. Because of that I don’t wash them very regularly.

Opensisame · 12/06/2025 19:30

FullOfLemons · 12/06/2025 18:41

I don’t believe OP or anybody else washes towels after only one use.

Unless they live in a launderette.

My ex who lived in the US definitely did. I think some of my friends do too but not sure.

I don’t unless I’m on my period.

DappledThings · 12/06/2025 19:30

No particular routine. Maybe once a fortnight-ish? They just get used to dry clean water off clean bodies then hung up to fully dry. How can they possibly need washing every use?

FcukTheDay · 12/06/2025 19:30

After every use, so everyday. It is wasteful and more work but its just the way I am!

Eldermileniummam · 12/06/2025 19:30

We have our own towels and my own I'll leave up to a week but I wash DH and DC more often mainly as they get left around
