To not agree with David Beckham being knighted

Those two are so full of their own self importance already. A knighthood will make them even worse. Absolute publicity seeking pains. They've been angling for this for years.

If you find them to be pains an easy fix is not to give them headspace

HeddaGarbled · 06/06/2025 13:08

Ah, I don’t know. I’m sort of pleased he’ll get it at last (to the small extent I care about that sort of stuff). He’s worked hard enough for it.

SmokyWood · 06/06/2025 13:08

Completely agree, he was a talented footballer years ago but his arse kissing of the royal family is just embarrassing. And she lacks any talent at all (not that she’s being awarded anything). Knighthoods are pretty meaningless but this makes them seem more so.

ACynicalDad · 06/06/2025 13:09

I have more of a problem with the number of politicians, Whitehall civil servants and diplomats that get these things. If you get senior enough it seems you get it for doing your job rather than for being exceptional.

Needmorelego · 06/06/2025 13:10

Will this actually have any effect on your life?
I doubt it.
Why do you care?

User135644 · 06/06/2025 13:10

He's beg stole and borrowed for it for years.

I'm not really sure chat forums would exist if people had to ask themselves those questions before starting a discussion thread?

True 😂

NeverDropYourMooncup · 06/06/2025 13:12

Got fuck all to do with us, really. They do charity work, they're rich, they're famous, it's what happens - more so with posher people than him, but that's probably why it took so long to be awarded.

And it's always handy to clutter up the news with people frothing about something frankly inconsequential to their lives like this, rather than something else potentially be picked up on. Bread and circuses, innit?

Honon · 06/06/2025 13:12

The whole system is a problem and is heavily biased towards those who shout the loudest and know the right people. But within that context I wouldn't pick on Beckham especially, he's achieved more than many who have been knighted he's been a high profile ambassador for English football for decades now.

Stellaris22 · 06/06/2025 13:14

Continually working with countries known for human rights abuse is my issue with him.

What are you talking about? People have been given a Knighthood for much less. The cabinet is full of these people, who don't deserve it.

BobbyBiscuits · 06/06/2025 13:15

I don't think he will be, will he? I mean he is totally all about self promotion.

What has he ever done other than football and posing with various products alongside his awful wife?

He had elocution lessons so he doesn't sound like a chipmunk anymore but I don't see under what grounds he's made the country or the world a better place.

I bet he dodges all his taxes too.

Redcrayons · 06/06/2025 13:15

He’s no worse than many other high profile people who have got it. he does a lot for charity and has been an ambassador for sport around the world.

come the revolution though, they’re all in the tower.

Dangermoo · 06/06/2025 13:16

Good for him; geat ambassador for kids at grass root level. He behaved humbly when paying his respects to the Queen, unlike other celebs.

LuckysDadsHat · 06/06/2025 13:16

There are a lot worse people that have been given it! I dont let it take uo anytime in my head.

Sunflowergirl1 · 06/06/2025 13:16

Just another example of some useless celeb receiving honours. Totally undeserved

Genevieva · 06/06/2025 13:16

People with lesser achievements receive knighthoods without controversy.

That doesn’t warrant a knighthood!

CoastalCalm · 06/06/2025 13:17

Tax evader so in my book he shouldn’t be knighted

Screamingabdabz · 06/06/2025 13:18

No one should be given a knighthood for their kicky ball skills. It just shows how meaningless the whole charade is.

stayathomer · 06/06/2025 13:18

He’s helped a lot of charities and young people. If you don’t like him/ people getting this just ignore

Hoolahoophop · 06/06/2025 13:18

@BobbyBiscuits What's so awful about his wife?

Stellaris22 · 06/06/2025 13:19

Paying UK tax should be a minimum and non negotiable requirement for a knighthood.

FullOfLemons · 06/06/2025 13:19

I don’t think it is outrageous

He can at least claim to have achieved something and brought some entertainment / joy to others.

The opposite could have be said of Sadiq Khan and he still got a knighthood
