To not agree with David Beckham being knighted

Those two are so full of their own self importance already. A knighthood will make them even worse. Absolute publicity seeking pains. They've been angling for this for years.

Flying around the world first class and first class accommodation for by the charity he represents?
I think we all know the purpose for his charity work. He made no secret of the fact he was desperate for a knighthood!

he is not the first nor the last to want a knighthood is he? I don’t think that means he should be disqualified from getting one. I know we’d all like to think we all do things altruistically but I am sure we’d all like to get one if we could!

I didn't say it did. You must have missed my first sentence. He's also done some work in developing countries, working with kids wanting to play the game. His behaviour on Queen's passing complements his commitment to sport and developing young talent.

He stood in a queue like thousands of others- So what?

His charity work was a means to an end. He made no secret of it.

ChevronShoes · 06/06/2025 14:00

I’m happy for him.

Blinkingbother · 06/06/2025 14:00

Meh, my old boss was given one and he’s a really rather unpleasant individual…. DB comes across as saintly by comparison. If you’re wealthy enough you just buy one by ‘giving’ to Charity (which often translates to getting your company’s employees to do pro bono work for charity).

I don’t he’s the most deserving. They’re very good at self-publicising and profiteering. If any sportsperson deserves one it’s Kevin Sinfield.

He acted like a spoilt brat when he didn’t get one years ago! It was embarrassing to see how desperate he was for a knighthood, and sucking up to Royalty. Lady Victoria must now be thanking her lucky stars she didn’t leave him after the Rebecca Loos incident.

She'll never be Lady Victoria because she isn't the daughter of a Duke, Marquis or Earl so she doesn't have 'Lady' in her own right. She'll be Lady Beckham instead of Mrs Beckham.

He made his desperation for a knighthood public, he acted like a petulant toddler having a tantrum! then he sent those appalling emails! That alone should have shown a knighthood was inappropriate for him. Combined with brown nosing to the Royal Family, why was he reconsidered for a knighthood. Plenty do charity work without publicising it and are never recognised!

That’ll do for her! She’s as desperate as he is!

He's achieved a lot more than most who recieve them. And I believe he's done a lot for charity. It sounds a reasonable decision.

I am also surprised he hasn't received one earlier when you think they gave them out like sweeties after the London Olympics.

God, so many bitter people here!!

Of course playing any sport at the levem of representing your country required grit & determination & dedication & that's hard work

Plus he was treated abominably by the public at a very young age - i watched old footage & honestly I would never ever want my dc to experience anything lolr that.

He's a working class boy who made good - did he do too well for himself? Is that why so many are so disparaging of him?

I admire what they've achieved in their lives even though their dreams & ambitions were never mine (sport & popstar)

I'm glad his charity work is being recognised

SuperTrooper14 · 06/06/2025 14:05

Love all these posts about him not paying taxes in the UK. Where's the proof, folks?

I would much rather he got a knighthood than the bloody Tory politicians who dragged us through the mire with Covid and Brexit.

SammyScrounge · 06/06/2025 14:05

I admire David and Victoria. They have made the.most of themselves and both built very successful careers. I would say they are good role models for youngsters in showing how hard work and being canny can make you successful. They also are very committed to their family which is refreshing these days.

I hope David enjoys his Knighthood.

It’s on his Wikipedia page. HMRC blocked it as his tax affairs were too messy. This was all just after the Olympics.
“In 2015, a Portuguese company associated with Beckham's spokesman had their server hacked which contained personal emails from Beckham. Germany's Der Spiegel and France's L'Equipe published details of the hack, reporting how Beckham was angry at not being granted a knighthood in 2013, and that the Honours Committee was concerned about his tax affairs due to input from UK government department HMRC. Beckham's team stated some of the published emails were doctored, but they confirmed others as genuine.”

Did victoria beckham try claiming benefits for her workers during covid for her fashion business, well the business yhat makes no money

Wow! Give the man a knighthood then!
He's already got a CBE- more than enough recognition for what he’s done.

You really have got it bad. He queued on behalf of his late grandparents.

Why are you singling her business out for this when 99.9% of businesses were also doing it?
