Magic Mike Live - Bride really unhappy

I was given the task of organising my best friend’s hen. I, alongside our other friend, decided on Magic Mike Live. It’s very on theme for a hen and from what I have heard just a very silly dance show which gets people dancing and laughing (not at all seedy).

This will be the end of August. So great weather. We thought we’d go in a little tipsy (after bottomless brunch) and have a laugh as a group of girls (and a couple of gay guys). Finish with a dinner and some dancing. And Bob’s your uncle.

It’s all gone to shit.

Apparently the groom is not happy and thinks it’s a weird choice. He has told the bride he doesn’t want her to go. Everyone’s paid for the non-refundable tickets! There was a bbq last week and it was the main topic of conversation apparently. With all these weird theories as to why it was chosen. It’s not that deep!

My friend often attends bottomless brunch, dances on tables etc. And is no prude.

i genuinely feel ill! It’s being referred to as a strip show! The bride’s step mum and mum will be in attendance.

I really want to walk away from the whole thing.

I spoke to the bride and she is not happy at all

The whole thing is supposed to be for the bride! Confused

But it's OK if she doesn't go because she hates the idea.

Don't arrange anyone's hen party will you, like ever?!!

But she doesn't hate the idea, she's fine with it! It's her fiance who has an issue.

FiendsandFairies · 02/06/2025 20:22

Rainbowpony6 · 02/06/2025 16:08

You can all still go
Tickets are paid for
Just don't call it the hen night
Bride can organise something different for her hen do ,if it doesn't suit

This! A solution!!

coxesorangepippin · 02/06/2025 20:28

Just go and call it a night out instead

🤔

Not a hen do, oh no

OPs posts don't say that at all.

She didn't consult the bride to be at all so she didn't agree to it or say she was fine with it.

Where did you get that from?

OP said she thought she would like it because she dances on tables and has watched the films.

And the people in the group chat which doesn't include the bride said it sounded fun.

SMLSML · 02/06/2025 21:52

Omg OP it sounds like you've planned the perfect hen night, the grooms behaviour is worrying for sure? I'm shocked at the amount of people on here saying it's not their cup of tea! It's a typical hen do activity 😅 what else do people do, afternoon tea?! 😅🤣

Magic Mike is a laugh, great music and a bit of fun and night out to dance 😅

What else do people do? Hundreds of things that don't involve whooping at topless men covered in oil dry-humping the stage or members of the audience.

I'm bewildered how you and so many other people seem to think there are no alternatives between Magic Mike and afternoon tea...

The last hen do I went to really was an afternoon tea, and it was a good laugh.

I then had to leave early to pull pints at a beer festival 😁

Is there an equivalent to the Magic Mike show but for men? Some kind of show with sexy ladies in skimpy clothes (but not naked) gyrating about?

A Little Mix concert?

OonaStubbs · 03/06/2025 00:11

SALaw · 02/06/2025 23:31

A Little Mix concert?

I suppose so but I doubt you get many groups of (straight) men attending little mix concerts.

MiracleCures · 03/06/2025 00:22

SALaw · 02/06/2025 23:31

A Little Mix concert?

Fairly certain they don't dish out lapdances at their concerts

FairKoala · 03/06/2025 03:48

I would say that there are a lot of people commenting on something they haven’t seen and don’t understand the difference between a strip show and theatre

Think someone misheard tap dance and jumped to the wrong conclusion

So its theatre so children can go?

Don’t be silly, it’s the same as a cinema, Age restriction for various reasons.

Thats common sense.

Not all shows are the same age obviously!

BusyMum47 · 03/06/2025 06:51

ThejoyofNC · 02/06/2025 05:33

I wouldn't be happy either and nor would I go. I think if you're going to book something like that then you need prior agreement.

This! ⬆️ That sort of thing is an acquired taste & when you have a very mixed group, including 2 generations, it's a very risky bet without checking first! I'd be annoyed, too, to be fair.

You’re surprised at people saying it’s not their cup of tea? Really? Are people on hen do’s one homogeneous group?

I’ve been on dozens of hen do’s and not one has featured a male stripper show. There are lots of alternative options which are still fun, you don’t even really need to use your imagination that much!

NameChangeNow3000 · 03/06/2025 07:17

I can’t believe how uptight people are being about this! OP I’m sure it would have been a funny show to see but god nobody has a sense of humour anymore!

Another person calling people uptight for not wanting to see male strippers and now we all lack a sense of humour!

Have a word with yourself 🙄

I can't believe how people don't understand that we don't all like the same things.

I have been to burlesque shows and bawdy shows. They don't offend me, they bore me. I love humour. Give me a good stand up comedian any day.

I’d much prefer a burlesque show.
I just don’t enjoy the typical male model/stripper look or male stripper shows and anything with the risk of audience participation.

There's no wrong conclusions, the shows own promotional material refers to lapdances.

I guess some might say people who don't approve of paying for prostitutes are upright too.

I'd put paying for lapdances/strippers and paying for prostitutes in the same category

HoppingPavlova · 03/06/2025 08:35

dancers gyrating on your tables

That’s from the description promoting it on the booking site. No idea how not wanting that is being up tight or lacking in humour?

PopcornKitten · 02/06/2025 15:55

when I got married I made it clear that I didn’t want hubby to be going to strip clubs or similar. I wouldn’t choose to go to anything in a similar vein as a hen.
it’s not about being controlling, it’s about ensuring your DP is comfortable.
He went paintballing so it’s not as though he’s being a hypocrite.
It would have been helpful for the bride to have let you know that this wasn’t on the cards for her so you could plan something more suitable.

“It’s about DH being comfortable” 😂😂😂 Who are you kidding. The only reason anyone doesn’t want their OH to go to any kind of strip show / strip club is because of insecurity. Adults are perfectly capable of deciding for themselves whether they want to go, you don’t need to worry for your DH about whether he’s “comfortable” 😆

I did the Magic Mike show for my hen (even though it wasn’t my thing) and it was a good laugh. Not seedy. Would I go again? Prob not but it was funny and we had a good night (we had other activities too).

I have no issue with my DH going to a strip club for a stag. I’m secure enough in the relationship to know he wouldn’t do anything untoward. The real issue of this thread is the groom.

crumblingschools · 03/06/2025 10:03

@DontBeADick11 for many people it’s not to do with insecurity but to do with respect, not liking women being treated as objects, not agreeing with trafficking.

TunnocksOrDeath · 03/06/2025 10:37

Vickersz · 02/06/2025 05:44

I thought the bride would enjoy it! She’s watched all the films.

I've seen "Boogie Nights", it doesn't mean I'd have been happy with a hen night at a porn set.
