Tom Cruise is getting a Knighthood for services to the film industry!

I don’t think I’ve seen him in anything for 20/30 years!

Why are we rewarding a man who earns millions just for pretending to be someone else and speaking the words that someone else has written and who is instructed where to stand, sit, walk and move around?

A man who has not seen his daughter since she was 7 years old nearly 12 years ago!

Crikey, that will piss off David Beckham 😂

Panamacatinahat · 08/05/2025 18:30

You’ve no idea whether he’s seen his daughter unless you’re privvy to everything that went on with him and Katie Holmes.

How can he get a knighthood if he’s American?

IdiottoGoa · 08/05/2025 18:32

I’m not a huge fan but don’t you ever go to the cinema? He’s been in loads and does a lot in the UK too.

LizzieBananas · 08/05/2025 18:32

He’s not a citizen so he’s not Sir Thomas

2024onwardsandup · 08/05/2025 18:32

Also he’s Beckham will be LIVID

TomatoSandwiches · 08/05/2025 18:32

He is getting it for his services to the film industry, his projects have increased production in the UK in the last 2 decades at least. I don't think he is undeserving of being acknowledged.

His status as a father is an entirely separate issue.

Fastingandhungry · 08/05/2025 18:33

Many questionable choices, however he is in many films and Directs many others up to present day.

MinnieCauldwell · 08/05/2025 18:34

I think it maybe because his films use UK studious and crews, like Steven Spielberg who was also knighted.

Are you against ANY thesps receiving this distinction? Your comments about rewarding someone for 'earning millions just for pretending to be someone else' would apply to any actor, surely.

As for Suri, unsavoury as his behaviour in that area is I'm tended to think he did her a favour he's not receiving an award for Dad of the Year.

Squirrelsnut · 08/05/2025 18:34

To be fair, I've seen him in LOADS of films in the last 10 years - probably because I have teenage boys..
the many Mission Impossibles, Top Gun 2, Live, Die, Repeat, Reacher etc.
He's an astonishing stuntman in his own right and funds and produces many films.
I cannot fathom his ludicrous religion but within his industry, he is exceptional and has been for decades.

He has stated that he hasn’t seen her since she broke her arm when she was 7. She is now 18/19.

Why do we still dish out these titles?

Octonaut4Life · 08/05/2025 18:36

I haven't seen this reported but given that Trump et al have been talking about forcing film companies back to Hollywood and financially penalising films made outside the US, maybe it's a bit of soft power at play to encourage filmmakers to keep using the UK for filming...

Absolutely. He starred in and produced the top grossing film of 2022 - Top Gun Maverick made something like $1.5bn. the final Mission Impossible film is going to do numbers.

Arlanymor · 08/05/2025 18:36

He can get knighted but because he’s not a member of the Commonwealth he can’t call himself Sir, as far as I understand.

Can’t get too excited about it as it’s a daft antiquated system used and abused by the croneyism of politicians in the main. I remember asking my mum what OBE meant once and she said: “Other bugger’s efforts” so that rather set my course for life in terms of the so-called honours system…

YoshiIsCute · 08/05/2025 18:37

He’s been in at least 15 films in the last 20 years… how can you not have seen or at least heard of all the Mission Impossible films, Top Gun 2, Jack Reacher?

and I agree with everything @TomatoSandwiches said

This.

He's so much more than an actor.

I hadn't heard this anywhere other than in the OP's post so I googled it. The only media reporting it as fact is... the Daily Mail. So the OP does know everything about Cruise' relationship with his daughter because she's outed herself as a Daily Mail reader and everything you read in there is definitely true.

Tom Cruise is an amazing promoter of the film industry and has brought loads of jobs to the UK by making films here.

He hasn't been knighted though.

Their personal behaviours are relevant. Jimmy Saville for example. Did loads for charity. Still think it should be taken away posthumously
