Sir Tom Cruise 🙄

Tom Cruise is getting a Knighthood for services to the film industry!

I don’t think I’ve seen him in anything for 20/30 years!

Why are we rewarding a man who earns millions just for pretending to be someone else and speaking the words that someone else has written and who is instructed where to stand, sit, walk and move around?

A man who has not seen his daughter since she was 7 years old nearly 12 years ago!

Crikey, that will piss off David Beckham 😂

My first thought too! 🤣

CoffeeCoffeeTea · 08/05/2025 21:18

Terry Wogan got a knighthood and used the title. Is Bob geldof a Sir as well

whitewineandsun · 08/05/2025 21:19

MinnieCauldwell · 08/05/2025 18:34

I think it maybe because his films use UK studious and crews, like Steven Spielberg who was also knighted.

It'll be this, I bet.

He’d be allowed to call himself “Tom Cruise, KBE” but he would not be allowed to call himself “Sir Tom Cruise”.

Only citizens of the Commonwealth can use the prefix “Sir”.

Cmpletely fascinated by this thread.

Why can't he call himself 'Sir'? How do the Commonwealth police this?

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 08/05/2025 21:24

Nanny0gg · 08/05/2025 19:00

For info:

  • George H W Bush GCB
  • Dwight D Eisenhower GCB
  • Bill Gates KBE
  • Melinda Gates DBE
  • Mark Getty KBE
  • Paul Getty KBE
  • Billy Graham KBE
  • J Edgar Hoover KBE
  • Bob Hope KBE
  • Angelina Jolie DCMG
  • Ralph Lauren KBE
  • Yehudi Menuhin, Baron Menuhin KBE
  • André Previn KBE
  • Ronald Reagan GCB
  • Dame Marjorie Scardino DBE
  • Steven Spielberg KBE

Menuhin was a British citizen, btw.

A tiny little actor from a cult who pretends he's not gay by hiring wives. An honour. Great.

noblegiraffe · 08/05/2025 21:27

People falling over themselves to be dismissive of Tom Cruise is pretty funny.

ForRealCat · 08/05/2025 19:23

If you want to start the list of who it SHOULD be, surely you should lead with Monty Don.

Hell, no!

Simon Pegg, please. (He's soooo great as Benjy in the later Mission Impossible films, plus everything else he does,)

People are always falling over Tom Cruise. It's cause he's the same height as a dachshund.

He is getting it for his services to the film industry, his projects have increased production in the UK in the last 2 decades at least. I don't think he is undeserving of being acknowledged.

His status as a father is an entirely separate issue.

Yes his films are like the only thing made here anymore right? Also acting is a tough career - I wonder how good the op is at it? Clearly not good enough for a knighthood.
OP I suggest you take some acting classes, maybe try a land an audition and then tell us how easy and simplistic it is.

knighthoods are bollocks anyway. And him being an evil cult leader who’s a terrible father snatching the knighthood prize has nothing to do with slagging off other peoples’ careers.

Here's a helpful list of "honorary honours". Froth away!

wordler · 08/05/2025 21:36

He's done a lot of filming in the UK over the last ten years boosting the UK film industry economy. Presumably someone in the culture department in the government has been smoozed.

I assume he's been networking this for a while.

Shetlands · 08/05/2025 21:43

vipersputpaidtomylastusername · 08/05/2025 19:06

Rather he gets one than David Beckham.

It's going to happen isn't it , I mean it's what he's been schmoozing for for years.

Lady Victoria Beckham 🙄

If David Beckham is ever awarded a knighthood, his wife won't be able to call herself Lady Victoria Beckham because her father isn't an Earl, Marquess or Duke. She'd just be Lady Beckham.

Sherararara · 08/05/2025 21:44

If you haven’t seen him in anything for 20/30 years that says a lot more about you than him.
Maybe time to crawl out from under your rock…

Ah, interesting. Thank you for educating me!

Although, even the correct title / address for her is still not a great prospect tbh.

Dangermoo · 08/05/2025 21:45

So I guess the box office hit Maverick escaped you? 🥱

Mysterian · 08/05/2025 21:50

It's taken so long for him to be honoured. Yet again Tom Cruise has fallen through the cracks.

BlondiePortz · 08/05/2025 21:57

What on earth has his child go to do with an American getting an honoary knighthood, are you a bit too invested in this?

Sadza · 08/05/2025 21:58

Did you even google him to see what he’s been in or done in the last 20/30 years?

YankSplaining · 08/05/2025 22:00

I think Scientology is batshit, but if you want to give an honorary knighthood to an American actor, Tom Cruise is a solid choice, based on both skills and longevity in the industry:

Dangermoo · 08/05/2025 22:03

Why would an American get a knighthood? Also, is the far fetched drama about Becks expecting a knighthood still going?

Snugglemonkey · 08/05/2025 22:06

ChessorBuckaroo · 08/05/2025 19:06

Terry got UK citizenship in 2005 so his is not honorary (hence Sir Terry).

Cruise is mr box office, oozes charisma, and has been a huge asset to the film industry. And he does a lot of film work in the UK. So an honorary award (if this report is true) is merited. It will be the same as Spielberg. Surprised George Lucas hasn't had one yet as both his franchises (Star Wars and Indiana Jones) were filmed in UK studios.

Lucas may have refused it.

This.^^ Cruise has done a lot for the UK film industry.

MichaelandKirk · 08/05/2025 22:23

He got us going back to the cinema with Top Gun 2. He seems to have a golden touch with film making and clearly takes it very seriously.

If you want to know how to run as an actor in a film Cruise is your man.

No one seems to have a bad word about him professionally. His love life is a bit of a mystery.. especially Katie Holmes.
