Sir Tom Cruise 🙄

Tom Cruise is getting a Knighthood for services to the film industry!

I don’t think I’ve seen him in anything for 20/30 years!

Why are we rewarding a man who earns millions just for pretending to be someone else and speaking the words that someone else has written and who is instructed where to stand, sit, walk and move around?

A man who has not seen his daughter since she was 7 years old nearly 12 years ago!

I didn’t think non Brits could get a knighthood.

You live & learn I guess.

They can't. Non Brits CAN'T get a knighthood! The story isn't true.

Apparently you don't, since it's been said at least nineteen tubes just on this thread that non Brits can't get knighthoods.

gingercat02 · 09/05/2025 20:45

He can't be Sir Tom, but he can be Tom Cruise KBE (Knight of the British Empire) I believe

Arlanymor · 09/05/2025 20:49

You CAN get a knighthood, you can't be called SIR if you are honorary.

Here's the difference...

Sir Michael Caine KBE
Tom Cruise KBE

It's really not that hard to grasp! Still a knighthood - as evidenced by the letters at the end of the name... but non-commonwealth citizens cannot use Sir.

An honorary knighthood is not an actual knighthood. Like you can get an honorary degree...it's not real. You don't go to the palace, there's no investiture, no sword etc.
It's not the same

Fair enough, can't say I care at all. As per my earlier posts. I think the whole thing is nonsense.

Uricon2 · 09/05/2025 21:56

I'm his age more or less, I think he's a complete kook in many ways and find the Scientology stuff baffling, but he's also a fantastic actor. Much, much worse people have been knighted (examples upthread) and he spends more time here than some Brits who have been awarded honours.

Arise, Sir Tom of Maverick.

I hadn't heard this anywhere other than in the OP's post so I googled it. The only media reporting it as fact is... the Daily Mail. So the OP does know everything about Cruise' relationship with his daughter because she's outed herself as a Daily Mail reader and everything you read in there is definitely true.

In scientology terms Suri and Katie would be called as “suppressive people” that you’re supposed to stay away from once they leave the religion. It’s why Nicole Kidman’s older two children don’t speak to her anymore because she got out

Sallyssn · 09/05/2025 22:05

Suri has been kept away from her father due to his scientology influences.

No. He has kept away from her due to her not being a Scientologist.

Shotokan101 · 09/05/2025 22:56

Where's this rock you've been living up der?

....not saying g that I agree with him getting a knighthood but there's been many many many many many others who've done much much much much less (for anything) who've been 8n the Honours List over the years......

...and it can't be a "proper knighthood" as he's "a foreigner"......

JohnTheRevelator · 09/05/2025 23:07

I thought you had to be British to get a knighthood?

Butchyrestingface · 09/05/2025 23:10

Unfortunately, I think OP peaked way, WAY too soon with the attempt to imply that Tom Cruise hasn't made any movies in 20-30 years.

There's a skill to this malarkey and so many posters these days seem to lack the patience.

DM weren’t the only ones who published that story hun x

Much like ever other story, hun.

I think it's all a lot of nonsense.
