Sir Tom Cruise 🙄

Tom Cruise is getting a Knighthood for services to the film industry!

I don’t think I’ve seen him in anything for 20/30 years!

Why are we rewarding a man who earns millions just for pretending to be someone else and speaking the words that someone else has written and who is instructed where to stand, sit, walk and move around?

A man who has not seen his daughter since she was 7 years old nearly 12 years ago!

He can get knighted but because he’s not a member of the Commonwealth he can’t call himself Sir, as far as I understand.

Can’t get too excited about it as it’s a daft antiquated system used and abused by the croneyism of politicians in the main. I remember asking my mum what OBE meant once and she said: “Other bugger’s efforts” so that rather set my course for life in terms of the so-called honours system…

Oh I love that and it’s so true!!!

gonna use that and think of your mumn

DrummingMousWife · 08/05/2025 18:46

Gavin Williams got a knighthood - so it’s clearly a free for all .

Their personal behaviours are relevant. Jimmy Saville for example. Did loads for charity. Still think it should be taken away posthumously

I sincerely hope you are not accusing Tom Cruise of committing offenses as serious as Jimmy Saville was... if so you need to talk to the police.

ForRealCat · 08/05/2025 18:51

I like the fella. Bit batshit, but I like my stars quirky. He doesn’t seem to take himself too seriously anymore and whilst his movies aren’t my cup of tea he keeps plenty of people in work. Film crews, artists, actors, surgeons…

LuckysDadsHat · 08/05/2025 18:51

The only link I can find on this is the Daily Mail

https://archive.ph/kUB7a

And it's all supposition of his team has been sounded out blah blah blah.

tripleginandtonic · 08/05/2025 18:51

Tom Cruise was huge in the film industry. Being a shit father doesn't come into it

You can’t revoke a knighthood from a dead person. Evidence: https://www.theguardian.com/media/2012/oct/09/jimmy-savile-knighthood

You can annul them from living people as happened to Robert Mugabe, Benito Mussolini and Nicolae Ceaucescu. Told you it was a cronyism system!

Cruise’s is likely to be an honorary knighthood for those still asking if it’s people as non-citizen of the UK.

Jimmy Savile cannot be stripped of knighthood, say officials

David Cameron raises prospect of presenter losing honour, but Cabinet Office says people cease to hold title after they die. By Lisa O'Carroll

And being a shit father ( that we are assuming, we have no insight to his personal relationships) is in no way considerable to being a paedophile or necrophiliac.

Bloody ridiculous.

It'll be honorary only, as he's American.

SALaw · 08/05/2025 18:55

@GeorgianaM but you know he’s made lots of films in that time, right?! It isn’t just about if Georgiana M has watched the films?

JoyousEagle · 08/05/2025 18:55

It would be an honorary knighthood, which Americans can get.

But I think you need to make it clear that this hasn’t actually been announced. It’s just speculation.

SALaw · 08/05/2025 18:55

Growsomeballswoman · 08/05/2025 18:30

Crikey, that will piss off David Beckham 😂

They’re good pals? He was at David’s birthday the other day.

Cosmosforbreakfast · 08/05/2025 18:56

Not a fan of Tom Cruise but he does all his own stunts. He deserves it just for that alone.

Tagyoureit · 08/05/2025 18:57

And he was brilliant in Tropic Thunder which was released in 2008

JackJarvisEsq · 08/05/2025 18:57

2024onwardsandup · 08/05/2025 18:32

How can he get a knighthood if he’s American?

Same way Bob Geldof and Terry Wogan got theirs

SALaw · 08/05/2025 18:59

@GeorgianaM”He has stated that he hasn’t seen her since she broke her arm when she was 7. She is now 18/19.” No he hasn’t? He’s not said a word and nor has Suri or Katie. No one knows. There’s speculation but none have confirmed or denied anything.

You think Dave justs going to be really happy for his friend 😂😂😂😂

CaveMum · 08/05/2025 19:05

He’d be allowed to call himself “Tom Cruise, KBE” but he would not be allowed to call himself “Sir Tom Cruise”.

Only citizens of the Commonwealth can use the prefix “Sir”.

IcedPurple · 08/05/2025 19:05

EasternStandard · 08/05/2025 18:36

I didn’t know it was possible either

Honorary knighthood.

Ted Sarandos has one too. As does Bob Geldof and lots of others.

vipersputpaidtomylastusername · 08/05/2025 19:06

Rather he gets one than David Beckham.

It's going to happen isn't it , I mean it's what he's been schmoozing for for years.

Lady Victoria Beckham 🙄
