Sir Tom Cruise 🙄

Tom Cruise is getting a Knighthood for services to the film industry!

I don’t think I’ve seen him in anything for 20/30 years!

Why are we rewarding a man who earns millions just for pretending to be someone else and speaking the words that someone else has written and who is instructed where to stand, sit, walk and move around?

A man who has not seen his daughter since she was 7 years old nearly 12 years ago!

To be fair, I've seen him in LOADS of films in the last 10 years - probably because I have teenage boys..
the many Mission Impossibles, Top Gun 2, Live, Die, Repeat, Reacher etc.
He's an astonishing stuntman in his own right and funds and produces many films.
I cannot fathom his ludicrous religion but within his industry, he is exceptional and has been for decades.

This.

Im personally not a fan of him but strangely like his movies. From what I’ve heard he is very genuine talented and extremely hard working when it comes to his work. He’s also known to be a very generous and genuine person. My friend worked on a movie with him many many years ago. She also worked with other very big Hollywood names many were very unpleasant but apparently TC was nice and treated people like her, an extra, with respect.

Netamount · 08/05/2025 20:24

It’s a shame there isn’t some kind of website with information on actors and film industry professionals on which you could do some basic level research to confirm whether he has, in fact, done much in the last 30 years.

Spoiler - he has.

ilovemydogandmrobama2 · 08/05/2025 20:25

He is such a creep - for those saying that no one knows the reasons for him not seeing his daughter, she was around 7 years old when him and Katie split up.

What reasons could there possibly be other than scientology that would stop him from seeing his child?

His other two children are still active as scientologists and he's maintained a relationship with them.

It's an interesting point - do actors need to have high moral values and have exemplary standards?

I wouldn't waste money or time on TC.

Ug. Tiny Tom.

Crikey, that will piss off David Beckham 😂

😂😂

Have the Honours Committee been unappreciative see you's yet again? 😁

Papyrophile · 08/05/2025 20:38

I like the appointment. As PPs have said, he's made a lot of films here, and brought a lot of money into the UK creative sector. It really doesn't matter whether YOU enjoyed the work he brought in; he brought it here and that economic decision is the difference between having a live film/TV industry (which employs around 200,000 people in well paid work) or NO work for all the people who work in film and TV. One of my DS's former romantic partners makes prosthetic masks for Marvel films. Film and TV spending brings a lot of money into odd corners of the UK.

aylis · 08/05/2025 20:42

I'm not a fan of these honours generally but as far as they go, I've no issue with Tom Cruise being honoured for his work in films. As has been mentioned, his stunt work is exceptional but he's also clearly incredibly supportive of younger actors and goes above and beyond to mentor and bring them to another level.

Imo it's a shame in a way that he's focused so heavily on the stunt work because the fact he can actually act is overlooked a lot (Magnolia, Collateral. Lions for Lambs was a poor film but he was disturbingly convincing as a Senator).

None of us knows a thing about his relationship with his daughter but what we do know is that he doesn't try to overshadow his kids' lives as shown by the fact he didn't make a circus out of his other daughter's wedding. He's not making a song and dance about his personal relationships any more.

Keirawr · 08/05/2025 20:46

And most of all he mostly steers clear of lecturing others about the virtues of ‘being kind’, saving the planet, telling women that men are women. He deserves a knighthood for that alone.

Plenty of celebs seem to think they should lecture the rest of us. While flying around on their private jets.

SmoothRoads · 08/05/2025 20:50

blubbyblub · 08/05/2025 18:46

Their personal behaviours are relevant. Jimmy Saville for example. Did loads for charity. Still think it should be taken away posthumously

The British crown does not appear to have a problem with predators, or they would have given Andrew the boot.

That's not entirely accurate. Scientologists believe in saving they planet, they just call it "clearing". They also believe in "being kind", because if you're not you get labelled a "suppressive person".

YearlySubscriptionRenewal · 08/05/2025 20:55

If it was the Nobel Price, you would have a point.

Knighthood for services to the film industry? He totally deserves it.

ButteredRadish · 08/05/2025 20:55

JFC of allllllll the celebs, they picked the twatfaced religious deadbeat whacko?!

I didn’t know it was possible either

Bob geldof, Casper Weinberger...

The list of non-UK honorary knights is quite long

Aww just give David Beckham one already.

Just for the vibes on the day-can you imagine Lady Posh's outfit and hat???

I am sure you are correct (I haven't really studied that sect)
but in TC defense he never mentions it, doesn't lecture about it, and photos of him at Scientology events are extremely rare and taken from private grounds by private people.

He might be a great asset for Scientology in a subtle way, only by being associated with it.

That was my first thought too!!

Ghosttofu99 · 08/05/2025 21:04

Have you been under a rock? He was in one of the biggest post pandemic films (Top Gun 2) for one. He was the ‘star’ of the Olympics handover ceremony. He produces all his own films, including the Mission Impossible series much of which is filmed in the U.K.

So fair enough of you don’t like him for personal reasons but to say he has not done any services for film is just factually wrong.

He does mention it in Scientology promotional videos, but I do not recall him every saying it in interviews or public events outside of this cult. Interviewers seem to avoid the topic too, when they speak to him.

Gonners · 08/05/2025 21:08

This is a Daily Mail story and therefore, obviously, 100% reliable.

How can he get a knighthood if he’s American?

Same as Geldorf who is Irish and there have been a few others.

Papyrophile · 08/05/2025 21:08

I really DON'T care about his religion. I do value his support for an important element of the economy.

Yeah, same in that they don't actually have knighthoods.
