Are people still driving Tesla’s?

There was a time in my area (London) where every other car driven was a Tesla, including quite a few Ubers I used to order. Now, there are hardly any (I am not saying people don’t drive them anymore). Has anyone else noticed this?

Elon is so unlikable to me including his face. I don’t even think he is ‘smart’ as Trump/his supporters likes to call him. I will admit I did love the cars when I didn’t know much about him. Now, I can’t stand the cars as they just remind me of the awful Elon.

I imagine most people are ashamed to be associated with a Nazi.

TreatYoSelf2025 · 26/03/2025 19:24

If you can’t separate a person from the company they own, I’d hate for you to look into the majority of companies on the planet.

There’s lots of Tesla’s but maybe a few less recently from people who don’t want to support him.

TooManyNiblings · 26/03/2025 19:27

There are still loads round here, I can't imagine anyone is going to replace their car based on him having been so much of a twat. I certainly couldn't afford to just replace my car on a whim.

Bluevelvetsofa · 26/03/2025 19:27

I saw one yesterday. The ( presumably) owner was walking ahead towards it whilst his partner struggled with a baby in a sling and a trolley with large pots, negotiating doors and steps.

NoSoupForU · 26/03/2025 19:28

Do you not drive much? I see lots of them. Lots of companies have them for company cars and wouldn't be rushing to terminate leases early.

FetidMoppet · 26/03/2025 19:29

Unfortunately DH has one as a company car for a few more years yet. He won't be replacing it with another one.

Bagggy · 26/03/2025 19:29

I see them around less and I’m in London. I think people are embarrassed by them! Tbh, I would be.

GoodVibesHere · 26/03/2025 19:29

I have heard that some people have been damaging and slashing tyres etc on Teslas parked in the street. Maybe that's just a rumour, I don't know but I also heard of people putting a sticker in the window saying 'I bought this car before Musk became a wanker'.

Userlosername · 26/03/2025 19:30

I see lots of them. They’re great cars.

GoodVibesHere · 26/03/2025 19:31

Or 'before I realised he was a wanker'. Something like that

B1indEye · 26/03/2025 19:33

Is it a London thing, there are absolutely loads everywhere I go.

crumpet · 26/03/2025 19:37

I believe Musk owns about 12% of Tesla. He may be the largest individual shareholder but he’s not the majority owner

SummaLuvin · 26/03/2025 19:37

As PP said, not cheap or easy to replace a car, especially when their resale value is on the floor right now so could not switch to a comparable by a different brand.

But I wonder if you re seeing less because in a multi-car household when both are available people are choosing the other option. Or in companies with car pools if they are easier to phase out or, again, they aren't being picked over other options.

tobee · 26/03/2025 19:38

Saw one next to me yesterday while I was stuck in a traffic jam. Spotted the mahoosive tablet on dashboard first!

Lolapusht · 26/03/2025 19:43

Absolutely not.

As soon as Trump got in, I pushed mine to the local Conservative Club and torched it in the car park. It’s still burning now.

BeaAndBen · 26/03/2025 19:45

I see plenty of them - it’s not like people can usually afford to ditch a car because a shareholder is an asshat.

stayathomer · 26/03/2025 19:45

They were speaking on the radio about the huge surge in sales of other electric cars and the fall of Tesla in the last month in Germany, which was a huge marketplace for Tesla

Ablondiebutagoody · 26/03/2025 19:45

I doubt that everyone has instantly scrapped them.

WinterMorn · 26/03/2025 19:48

We are locked into an airtight finance deal on ours until next summer. There is nothing we can do about it.

Vodkamartini3olives · 26/03/2025 19:51

Of course they are, why wouldn't they?. They're great cars and very popular in my area.

What does that have to do with owning Tesla? 😂

Are you suggesting that all Tesla owners are the sort of people who walk ahead of their struggling partners pushing large pots in trolleys while negotiating doors and steps? That’s oddly specific…

RedCatBlueCatYellowCat · 26/03/2025 19:53

Still loads of them round here. My brother has one.
I might keep an eye on the second hand market. I want to change my car and would love a full electric (our other car is) so if there are bargains to be picked up, without having to further line his pockets, I might get one.

Hope you don’t drive a VW…

Wakemeupbe4yougogo · 26/03/2025 19:55

Our village is full of them Hmm there's a new housing estate, and the must have's appear to be a Tesla, an untrained Cockapoo wearing a fleece and a pair of Hunter wellies.
