Are people still driving Tesla’s?

EddyF · 26/03/2025 19:20

There was a time in my area (London) where every other car driven was a Tesla, including quite a few Ubers I used to order. Now, there are hardly any (I am not saying people don’t drive them anymore). Has anyone else noticed this?

Elon is so unlikable to me including his face. I don’t even think he is ‘smart’ as Trump/his supporters likes to call him. I will admit I did love the cars when I didn’t know much about him. Now, I can’t stand the cars as they just remind me of the awful Elon.

I would struggle to get a cockapoo in a fleece and Hunter wellies . They must be better trained than they appear to you .

Not to mention that a cockapoo would need 2 pairs of wellies!

AtIusvue · 26/03/2025 20:18

Everyone I know who drives a Tesla, it’s a company car. So I’m guessing there’s not much they can do about it at the moment.

Rainingalldayonmyhead · 26/03/2025 20:18

With the vast majority of cars being on some sort of finance or a company car scheme they won’t just disappear in a couple of months. As the anti Musk thing has really only become big since Trump became President (November elected but Musk didn’t run DOGE until January when Trump took power) it will take many months for leasing and company car returns to wash through. Sales are down but the impact won’t be straight away as others have said they aren’t just going to dump their cars now.

They make Hunter wellies for cockapoos? Awesome!

mamajong · 26/03/2025 20:19

We got rid of ours, I would not want to be associated with him / his vile opinions

Do you seriously think he is a Nazi?

If it quacks like a duck…

RedToothBrush · 26/03/2025 20:20

I don't like Elon Musk. I don't like Teslas.

Threads like this, virtue signalling how much someone hates Musk, make me want to run out a buy a lifesize cardboard cutout and stick it in my window (so I don't have to look at it), just to wind up people who complain about him so much.

If you don't like his ideas fine. Start a thread about it with some substance. But this whole boycott thing? It's the best fucking marketing strategy ever.

Think about it.

And the other thing is, no one is going to scrap them just for that. The more modern ones have an expected lifespan of about four times that of an ICE vehicle. They will still be on the road.

AquaPeer · 26/03/2025 20:22

I do know 2 people who have got rid of their Tesla’s in the last 2 months. Both were 3/4 years old so would’ve been in the thrones of finance or paid for. They sold them / returned them for a reasonable price so the second hand prices haven’t crashed yet

NotTerfNorCis · 26/03/2025 20:22

I feel for Tesla owners. They're in the middle of a mess of Musk's creation. This is unfortunately the most effective way people can protest against him, Trump, and the entire horror show.

Blackcountrychik83 · 26/03/2025 20:23

My landlord replaced his previous Tesla recently .. with another … and his Son has his 3 year old one .

I haven’t heard anyone in real life talk about this .

PrettayGood · 26/03/2025 20:23

Every other car around these parts. 3 of my 4 brothers in law drive them.

Why woyld you get rid of one that you've already forked out money for? That's just daft.

I don't think it's virtue signalling to not want to associate yourself with a person/brand (because regardless of actual stake-holding Elon is very tied to the Tesla brand in peoples minds) whose views and actions you find appalling. I'm sure hundreds of thousands of people have Kanye merch in perfectly wearable condition but are electing not to wear it anymore, cars are just a little more difficult and expensive to avoid using or replacing, but the same idea behind it.

ImWearingPantaloons · 26/03/2025 20:28

I have two friends that got theirs a few years ago. They love them and have no plans to get rid of them

They haven’t just forked out money that’s why I said they were 3/4 years old.

Pancakeflipper · 26/03/2025 20:30

Very popular round our area.

Therex 4 on our street (and it's not a long street).

Lidlbitofmonica · 26/03/2025 20:32

There’s one near me with the bumper sticker ‘I bought it before I knew how awful he was’

How on earth is selling your car effectively protesting against Musk?!

He doesn’t get a notification each time someone sells a Tesla. He’s not sitting there like some weird tech bro Santa checking a list of Tesla owners “Oh no…Randal in Cleethorpes has just listed his Model 3 on FB Marketplace! I’m switching sides. Someone see if Kamala will take my call…”

Maybe try a petition or something?

RachelNoire · 26/03/2025 20:34

GoodVibesHere · 26/03/2025 19:29

I have heard that some people have been damaging and slashing tyres etc on Teslas parked in the street. Maybe that's just a rumour, I don't know but I also heard of people putting a sticker in the window saying 'I bought this car before Musk became a wanker'.

Clearly all about the virtue signal and was never about the environment huh?

miserablecat · 26/03/2025 20:34

There are still plenty where I live. I don't think Elon Musk has exactly had a personality change recently, so I think most people bought them because they like the car, rather than him?

Even if you had one and had taken a recent dislike to him, you might well be mid way through a lease contract or simply not in a position to change your car instantly.

mushroomshroom · 26/03/2025 20:35

@LameBorzoi I haven't said otherwise, I simply said some buyers will be fans...

mushroomshroom · 26/03/2025 20:36

I don’t understand why musk fan boys always say this. Surely you can see the difference between connection to the nazi’s in 1937 and aligning yourself with nazis in 2025? Do people give it a seconds thought before they say that

Of course they don't! 😆

Everysand · 26/03/2025 20:36

We have one each but they are company cars. Most will probably be company cars

LameBorzoi · 26/03/2025 20:37

AquaPeer · 26/03/2025 20:29

Ah, of course. Although I'm not sure why you would get rid of a privately owned 3 year old EV unless you were stupidly wealthy.
