Are people still driving Tesla’s?

EddyF · 26/03/2025 19:20

There was a time in my area (London) where every other car driven was a Tesla, including quite a few Ubers I used to order. Now, there are hardly any (I am not saying people don’t drive them anymore). Has anyone else noticed this?

Elon is so unlikable to me including his face. I don’t even think he is ‘smart’ as Trump/his supporters likes to call him. I will admit I did love the cars when I didn’t know much about him. Now, I can’t stand the cars as they just remind me of the awful Elon.

Teslas have become the New Audi and BMW in many ways.

And they developed a reputation for being driven by people who were arrogant, thought they owned the road, were inconsiderate and didn't use indicators who wanted a status symbol so I think that 'boycott Tesla', is actually going to appeal to that target demographic rather than deter sales...

The wankers around here are mostly driving Range Rovers that are far too big for the roads. Not noticed any particularly bad driving from Tesla drivers.

Breezybetty · 26/03/2025 22:05

I sometimes wonder if people think they get billed every time they use indicators. What other explanation could there be for not using them?

I assume all Tesla drivers are twats, just like Elon. Donald trumps advert at the white house didn’t disused me of this notion, no matter how illogical it is.

lollynip · 26/03/2025 22:05

Absolute rubbish. They are everywhere. Not sure what Tesla void in London you live in.

People are selling their Teslas. Who wants to buy them?

I feel childish, but good, when I shout Trumpmobile at a Tesla

How are they selling them if no-one wants to buy them?

Anyway, if there are any MNs who have a Tesla that they are too ashamed to drive, feel free to DM me and I'll take it off your hands. If it's a recent model, I'll even let you have my ten year old Hyundai in exchange.

Of course they are, not everyone can get rid of them immediately. Might put people off buying another one though.

To be honest I’d be less concerned about the Musk association than that the build quality is apparently shocking, especially given how expensive they are.

But I will refer to them as Swasticars. Just cause I think it’s funny.

That's the annoying thing, though - the build is actually fantastic (there was a lot of anti - green nonsense by Murdoch media early on, and some of the early LA built ones had issues, long since resolved).

They are actually cheap, if you take the running costs into account (so long as you don't turn them over every 2-3 years).

I'm so salty at Musk for trashing such a great brand.

But yeah, swastikcars is pretty funny.

MeganM3 · 26/03/2025 22:10

I was considering getting a Tesla at one point. I love the design. But I’d go for something else now, given the circumstances. I’m looking at the new electric Mustang.

Mokel · 26/03/2025 22:11

Live in the Midlands and probably see about half a dozen of them on a short trip of 2-3 miles

nam3c4ang3 · 26/03/2025 22:14

i think 1/10 parents at the kids school has them - and not the normal ones either, the SUV's. My old company had about 50 of them for all of us to use when we travelled there, i really liked them but cannot justify the price back home here. And i think i would prefer a hybrid anyway.

Totallymessed · 26/03/2025 22:15

So Tesla bad, Ford and BYD good. So confusing. I wouldn't recommend getting rid of a Tesla right now anyway, if you just hold on to it for a year or two the outraged mob will probably have moved onto a new target.

Ok Mokel. Whatever gets you through your day you poor wee soul.

CluelessAboutBiology · 26/03/2025 22:17

Where I live you can’t move for Teslas, they’re ten a penny. (Except on my driveway as we don’t have one)

At least you know you're irrational I suppose.

ForTealBee · 26/03/2025 22:17

Have actively boycotted Tesla since it launched

Never2many · 26/03/2025 22:18

these threads are hilarious. They bring out all the virtue signallers.

The thought that people should be embarrassed to have a Tesla is pathetic. I’m assuming those people own no products at all, since pretty much every company in the world has some dodgy association somewhere.

The partner had pots in the trolley!!!

LARGE pots!!!

The inhumanity!!

Won’t someone think of the pots???

They could have come to an unhappy ending in the event of an unsupervised step incident 😕

MrsBeltane · 26/03/2025 22:30

My neighbour has one, the people opposite have one and a friend's husband has just bought one. Loads round here.

miserablecat · 26/03/2025 22:30

Boycotting stuff would surely only work with stuff bought on a fairly regular basis. Even wealthy people aren't going to be updating their car monthly (or even annually)

If a boycott is effective though, the people worst affected will be those at the bottom of the food chain, not Elon Musk (Probably factory workers or sales people)
Look what happened when Arcadia went to the wall - thousands of people lost their jobs and pensions, I don't think Phillip Green was reduced to buying Tesco value stuff or going on a Haven holiday instead of his private yacht.

VaccineSticker · 26/03/2025 22:38

Elon was already getting bad press way before he was aligned with Trump.
That’s because big oil companies want the Tesla brand gone so they don’t lose out.

Tesla and electric cars in general are an existential threat to many polluting products that create billions to some big companies.

Way before and years before the Elon drama kicked off, there was always some made up news about Tesla or bad press about electric cars in general and it always included a picture of a Tesla in the featured article. Electric cars are unreliable, they catch fire, not safe…bla bla. Oh look Tesla shares are up and down etc…
Tesla was and still is on every single social media page and news front almost every week. Many got brainwashed into hating electric cars altogether… and that’s exactly what big oil wants.

Musk needs to refocus on clean energy and tech and keep out of politics.

I have heard that some people have been damaging and slashing tyres etc on Teslas parked in the street. Maybe that's just a rumour, I don't know but I also heard of people putting a sticker in the window saying 'I bought this car before Musk became a wanker'.

They have cameras all around them so you'd be an even bigger idiot to damage one.

Another one of the many things on this thread that never happened. So transparent.

My neighbour had his towed away on a recovery vehicle so yes it does happen!

"Are people still driving Teslas?"
No.
That's because I've never had one!
If I had the amount of cash needed to buy a new Tesla, absolutely no way would I buy a Tesla.
Of course if you're a sensible, pragmatic person, you shouldn't buy/not buy a product based on whether or not you like/dislike its creator, but on whether it meets your needs, etc.
But sometimes I'm neither sensible nor pragmatic.
Musk is obviously a highly creative, intelligent, innovative businessman. And he probably has other pleasing qualities.
But my blood ran cold when I saw that "Nazi" salute at Trump's inaugration, (even 'though he denied that's what it was), and he's reported to be hobnobbing in high far-right circles.
And how has he been installed by Trump into such a powerful government position without any American having voted for him?

Not necessarily broken down, they're almost always delivered or collected on the back of a flatbed truck.

Zanatdy · 27/03/2025 05:47

I see less (South London / Surrey border) but still a fair few. So many of them about

ProfessorLayton1 · 27/03/2025 05:59

Same here, company car. Will not replace it when the lease ends!

mushroomshroom · 27/03/2025 05:59

Tesla, including quite a few Ubers I used to order.

Oh yes, every single uber I used last year was a Tesla.
