Are people still driving Tesla’s?

EddyF · 26/03/2025 19:20

There was a time in my area (London) where every other car driven was a Tesla, including quite a few Ubers I used to order. Now, there are hardly any (I am not saying people don’t drive them anymore). Has anyone else noticed this?

Elon is so unlikable to me including his face. I don’t even think he is ‘smart’ as Trump/his supporters likes to call him. I will admit I did love the cars when I didn’t know much about him. Now, I can’t stand the cars as they just remind me of the awful Elon.

VW was 80 odd years ago. This is current.

Oh good, all is forgiven. Duly noted.

You clearly have fuck all idea about how quickly someone can go from rational to insane when confronted with fire.

Fine, so it'd be exactly the same in any car then?

Im not aware of any car, electric, petrol, tesla or otherwise that has a system that detects a fire, calms the passengers, opens the door and evacuates them automatically?

Coolasfeck · 28/03/2025 11:01

This whole targeting people who have Tesla’s (and quite frankly have already given Musk their money so it’s not going to hurt him) is reminding me of that viral ‘Get Kony’ thing from about a decade ago when everyone jumped on a social media fuelled bandwagon then seemed to forget about it about a month later.

The Kony 2012 viral video has been viewed by more than 80 million people so far.

I won’t even use Twitter. No way would I give Apartheid Clyde my money by buying a Tesla.

FixTheBone · 28/03/2025 11:06

Looking forward to buying my Model Y when the lease ends in october. Its currently depreciating about £700 / month.

But are you using the products or services of any of other Trump enablers and supporters. They may be less openly vocal but they all donated to his campaign and had front row seats at the inauguration. This includes:

Jeff Bezos - Amazon Prime
Tim Cook - Apple
Mark Zuckerberg - Facebook and WhatsApp
Sundar Pichai - Google

Can you honestly say you don’t use any of these things?

I’m not aiming this at you - but many people are being selective regarding their boycotts. It’s very easy to say you will boycott a product which is very tangible/visible and is something you’ve never bought and wouldn’t buy anyway, Whilst still using less visible services ran by other Trump supporting Tech bros.

Coolasfeck · 28/03/2025 11:17

And as Musk only owns 12% of the company, if he’s eventually ousted by the Board and replaced by someone super nice, what will happen then? Will people move on to Amazon Prime van drivers?

This all seems kind of immature and simplistic to me.

My opposition to Apartheid Clyde is not his support of Trump.

So this is irrelevant whataboutery on your part.

catsarecuteandcool · 28/03/2025 09:41

This.

I think you'll find most people are associated to someone shameful in one way or another. But I'm not stupid enough to believe that people are guilty by association.

Shegotanology · 28/03/2025 12:58

@brunettemic If you haven't been looking, why mention them?

LeaderBee · 28/03/2025 13:02

The original Volkswagen Beetle did pretty well for itself and we all know who had a hand in designing that.

Shegotanology · 28/03/2025 13:09

@DisneyTokyoNewbie Of course. It all goes under the radar though. When someone openly shows you who they are, it's only natural that people feel angry.
People know that there's not much we can do to fight those in power so this small stand against Musk makes people feel as if, at least, they're doing something.

JoshLymanSwagger · 28/03/2025 13:14

It's not just that Musk owns the company, but their offering is poor in comparison with other EVs offered by pretty much all other manufacturers.

I wouldn't have an EV personally, maybe a hybrid if and when I'm forced to, but Tesla were innovative - now, not so much.

Their vehicles are basically unchanged and look dated. Why spend loads of £$£$ on a car that looks no different than 5+ yrs ago when you can buy a (European) different brand that looks and feels more modern?

Edited

Surely if your car is on fire, you stop and jump out anyway...you don't wait for it to tell you to leave?

JoshLymanSwagger · 28/03/2025 13:18

LameBorzoi · 28/03/2025 00:07

Come to think of it, it's harder to forget to charge a BEV than it is to forget to fuel an ICE. You put a BEV onto charge every night. Fueling an ICE happens whenever.

And takes 5 mins.

Strawberryorangejuice · 28/03/2025 13:24

A lot of people I know got Tesla's about 3-4 years ago so maybe as leases expire we will start to see less. I'm relieved I didn't get one!

So it's an hypocritical act carried out in order to make people feel less powerless? Musk is so rich he could walk away from Tesla tomorrow and it won't impact him in any significant way. Keying (or firebombing) a Tesla is an empty gesture that serves only to make the person doing it feel good about themselves to the detriment of the person (probably someone who also felt they were doing something for the good of society by reducing traffic pollution) who has to not only pay for repairs, but then takes on those feelings of powerlessness.

Vandalism of this kind is an act of violence used to cause alarm and fear. Those who do it are absolutely not the good guys they think they are.

Shegotanology · 28/03/2025 12:58

I haven’t been looking for nazi salutes, it’s not hard to see VWs everywhere though is it. You’re the one who wants me to be on the lookout for the salutes, which is frankly a bit concerning.

Shegotanology · 28/03/2025 14:35

@DisneyTokyoNewbie Did I mention anything about vandalism? I'm talking about not owning a Tesla. It's a small gesture that makes people feel that they're at least doing something.

Shegotanology · 28/03/2025 14:37

@brunettemic Who said anything about looking for salutes? I'm not sure what your point is.
Musk's salute was hardly hidden. You would have to be off planet to have missed it.

Shegotanology · 28/03/2025 14:38

@brunettemic I think your lack of comprehension skills is making you unnecessarily angry.

semideponent · 28/03/2025 14:59

I haven't stopped driving my car or bought another just because of Elon, no, It's my car that gets me from A to B that I need for life and work an bought for good reasons when I did. End of.

is VW currently run by Nazis / Nazi sympathisers / billionaires trying to dismantle democracy in the US and other countries?

NRFT but I would expect some of these posters (especially the angry ones) are Tesla owners.

I think most people are making practical changes where it's easy to do so. Giving up Amazon is fairly easy for most. Some of the others less so. But if we can make small changes where it's easy that's better than not making any.

It's like - should I recycle nothing, because I can't be 100% perfect, or is it good to recycle 50% of stuff. Of course the latter is better. We're not saints, and to live in this world means to be a hypocrite and a consumer. I'd rather be a consumer making a small difference (and a hypocrite) than not do anything.
