Are people still driving Tesla’s?

EddyF · 26/03/2025 19:20

There was a time in my area (London) where every other car driven was a Tesla, including quite a few Ubers I used to order. Now, there are hardly any (I am not saying people don’t drive them anymore). Has anyone else noticed this?

Elon is so unlikable to me including his face. I don’t even think he is ‘smart’ as Trump/his supporters likes to call him. I will admit I did love the cars when I didn’t know much about him. Now, I can’t stand the cars as they just remind me of the awful Elon.

I don't think it's virtue signalling to not want to associate yourself with a person/brand (because regardless of actual stake-holding Elon is very tied to the Tesla brand in peoples minds) whose views and actions you find appalling. I'm sure hundreds of thousands of people have Kanye merch in perfectly wearable condition but are electing not to wear it anymore, cars are just a little more difficult and expensive to avoid using or replacing, but the same idea behind it.

I'm sure they have.

And that's fine if you find it objectionable.

It's the advertising it to the world that you've decided to stop doing so in a load voice on social media whilst berating others that's massively irritating and works like a marketing campaign though. It's literally the Barbara Streisand sales pitch.

More to the point, the people doing it tend to be people who would never have bought a Tesla anyway.

It's tedious.

Clearly all about the virtue signal and was never about the environment huh?

It's to prevent people carving swastikas in your paintwork.

Do you seriously think he is a Nazi?

Don’t you?
He’s not denied it.

PurpleAxe · 26/03/2025 20:41

Yep, and we are considering a second for the household now DS2 is a driver. The new Model Y, looks great.

I don't give a fuck about Musk one way or the other.

Anyone damaging our property can look forward to a punch in the face, we are not all quiet law abiding citizens.

Exactly. The easiest thing would’ve been to come out and state he is not a nazi and despises everything they stand for, yet he did not.

why wouldn’t he be a nazi? Loads of people are. Even the ones who don’t do salutes in front of the world

Really unpopular in my area and people have been carving swastikas into them.

No matter how much you dislike someone that you don’t even know, it’s never okay to vandalise someone else’s property. Elon’s not gonna be living on cheap noodles anytime soon but the people whose car you’ve damaged will suffer.

The losers doing it are now famous since they’re too stupid to realise they’re on camera.

Which area are you at @simpledeer

NeverDropYourMooncup · 26/03/2025 20:46

The only Teslas I see are when I get an Uber.

minnienono · 26/03/2025 20:46

They are all clogging up the middle lane of the M5 doing 60mph! (And the other ev’s) no annoying, just stay in the left hand lane unless overtaking just like the law says!!!

Alifemoreordinary123 · 26/03/2025 20:47

I’m still driving one - I have a lease for another 2.5 years. Now wishing it wasn’t so but here we are. I don’t spend too much time worrying about it and there are loads around here.

JitterbugFairy · 26/03/2025 20:48

Londonrach1 · 26/03/2025 20:07

Never seen one working ..only ever seen one once that had exploded... thought they were an urban made up story. I'm in the Midlands.

Of course you did 🤔🙄🥱
I'm in Staffordshire and have heard no such thing 🤣

Had ours 3 years. Still loving it. It's a fab car.

kindlyensure · 26/03/2025 20:49

Yes. Yes they are. And you know they are because you have seen people driving them. Mine dates from 2021 and I am comfortable with the fact I haven't been pumping petrol into the air for the past 4 years. How about you, OP?

Sortumn · 26/03/2025 20:50

If someone bought me a Tesla I'd happily drive it.

Car burst into flames in the village and stopped traffic. Police ordered us to close windows. This was last year. Apart from that I honestly even seen one apart from on TV.

Aggieaggieaggie · 26/03/2025 20:53

They’re mainly company cars around here (Cornwall). Loads around.

readingmakesmehappy · 26/03/2025 20:53

Shedloads of them around here. I judge each and every driver.

HairyToity · 26/03/2025 20:55

Byd electric cars are way better than Tesla's, and cheaper too.

NotTerfNorCis · 26/03/2025 20:22

I feel for Tesla owners. They're in the middle of a mess of Musk's creation. This is unfortunately the most effective way people can protest against him, Trump, and the entire horror show.

In what way is it effective?

DisneyTokyoNewbie · 26/03/2025 20:57

I sometimes think I live in a different reality to some of you.

Rainingalldayonmyhead · 26/03/2025 20:58

LameBorzoi · 26/03/2025 20:21

And the other thing is, no one is going to scrap them just for that. The more modern ones have an expected lifespan of about four times that of an ICE vehicle. They will still be on the road.

Depends. If people don’t buy then as used cars then residual values will fall and people want want to invest in them especially as there are so many EV choices now.

I absolutely would not buy one now. No way no how.

Bluevelvetsofa · 26/03/2025 19:27

I saw one yesterday. The ( presumably) owner was walking ahead towards it whilst his partner struggled with a baby in a sling and a trolley with large pots, negotiating doors and steps.

???
maybe they had nothing to do with each other

kitchentablegardentable · 26/03/2025 21:01

Elon Musk just bankrolled Tesla, did he not?

He had nothing to do with the design or innovative thought behind it.

The company was already making the cars when he got involved.

But yes, company has suffered terribly lately, and a lot of it is to do with the publics perception of him.

Bluevelvetsofa · 26/03/2025 21:05

Lolapusht · 26/03/2025 19:51

What does that have to do with owning Tesla? 😂

Are you suggesting that all Tesla owners are the sort of people who walk ahead of their struggling partners pushing large pots in trolleys while negotiating doors and steps? That’s oddly specific…

Calm down dear!

RedToothBrush · 26/03/2025 21:07

Teslas have become the New Audi and BMW in many ways.

And they developed a reputation for being driven by people who were arrogant, thought they owned the road, were inconsiderate and didn't use indicators who wanted a status symbol so I think that 'boycott Tesla', is actually going to appeal to that target demographic rather than deter sales...
