Are people still driving Tesla’s?

EddyF · 26/03/2025 19:20

There was a time in my area (London) where every other car driven was a Tesla, including quite a few Ubers I used to order. Now, there are hardly any (I am not saying people don’t drive them anymore). Has anyone else noticed this?

Elon is so unlikable to me including his face. I don’t even think he is ‘smart’ as Trump/his supporters likes to call him. I will admit I did love the cars when I didn’t know much about him. Now, I can’t stand the cars as they just remind me of the awful Elon.

Shedloads of them around here. I judge each and every driver.

What a ridiculous way to live your life. The media has done a number on you if this is for real.

Canterranter · 26/03/2025 21:08

Of course they are, just look around you.

TheKeatingFive · 26/03/2025 21:10

Of course they are. What an odd thread

Followed one on the back of breakdown truck today.

I think it's so silly that people say "I bought this before Elon went crazy ". As someone said earlier, he did not have a personality transplant recently. Didn't he fire ten thousands of people with no notice after taking over Twitter?

RedToothBrush · 26/03/2025 21:07

Teslas have become the New Audi and BMW in many ways.

And they developed a reputation for being driven by people who were arrogant, thought they owned the road, were inconsiderate and didn't use indicators who wanted a status symbol so I think that 'boycott Tesla', is actually going to appeal to that target demographic rather than deter sales...

I have literally never heard this before and it's absolutely not my experience of Tesla drivers. How bizarre.

TheSassyTraybake · 26/03/2025 21:19

Of course they are, not everyone can get rid of them immediately. Might put people off buying another one though.

To be honest I’d be less concerned about the Musk association than that the build quality is apparently shocking, especially given how expensive they are.

But I will refer to them as Swasticars. Just cause I think it’s funny.

In fairness, there is a massive difference between buying a private company with your own money and completely streamlining it to increase profitability and aligning yourself with a delusional wannabe dictator in order to influence politics in the public sphere.

Another one of the many things on this thread that never happened. So transparent.

BruisedNeckMeat · 26/03/2025 21:27

I love mine. The only reason I would get rid of it is to replace it with the new model Y which looks even better.

Its good to know I won’t be lumped in with people who mock the way someone’s face looks, question their intellect, snarf at people who live in new-build estates and own the wrong kind of dog, and enjoy vandalism.

Enjoy your moral high ground.

Maybe it did, maybe it didn't, but what would we even conclude from this sample size of one? 🤔

Hope you don’t drive a VW…

Or wear Hugo Boss....

Pinktruffle · 26/03/2025 21:32

DH has one as a company car, we still have over a year on the contract so will have to keep it. I see lots on the road where I live. I love it and think it's a fantastic car but due to Elon Musk, we won't be replacing it with another Tesla when the time comes.

JustJoinedRightNow · 26/03/2025 21:34

Yes I drive ours - we bought it in 2020 in a bid to cut down on petrol usage. We have solar panels so the electricity we use to charge it is fully sustainable.

I am getting a lot of aggression on the roads these days simply because I am driving a Tesla. Could people stop to think that maybe, just maybe, we aren't all Elon supporting arseholes and just wanted an environmentally friendly car and stop giving me so much shit?
Thanks.

You realise the poster isn’t the one doing it?

I fascinated to see what happens if she dashes a strangers hopes though….

Is it a London thing, there are absolutely loads everywhere I go.

There are loads in London still, the proportion might be a little less as there are more upmarket electric cars available on leasehold and salary sacrifice schemes.

The idea that Tesla owners are running to replace expensive vehicles (some still under contract) because the big name on the company is an arsehole is as silly as going out and vandalising them as some kind of virtue signalling statement.

It may be that there will be a drop in popularity when vehicles come up for replacement, but since the least green car is a new car and the sales buzz around electric is "eco" then it would be an odd way to demonstrate opposition to the "drill baby drill" government.

Motherofdragons24 · 26/03/2025 21:48

My husband has one. No we haven’t replaced it as like most people can’t just replace a car on a whim. If you can’t separate the owner of a company and the products they make I assume you’ve never owned anything by Chanel or Hugo boss or any number of other brands with sketchy pasts. They’re good cars.

TofuFighters · 26/03/2025 21:49

I have a Tesla, it’s a great car. I see a lot around here.

Heretheyarethen · 26/03/2025 21:53

ffs what a load of shite!! They are everywhere and will be for years to come. I know lots of Tesla owners with not a single thought of getting rid of them. As already said, you’d hardly buy anything if you refused to buy from a company whose owners had different political or ethical views to you.

BlackCatsForever · 26/03/2025 21:55

If he denied it would you accept his denial? If not, what would be the point in his denying it? 🤷‍♀️

Is this transparent enough?

That's the only Tesla I've seen this week. Does that mean there's less around no.

Don't appreciate the implication I was making it up though.

Actually up untill 2022 Elon was a vocal supporter and donator to the Democrats. Since then he's become progressively more right wing (most of this seems to be from his daughter transitioning). The last 4/5 months have actually where he has been very vocally despicable

DisneyTokyoNewbie · 26/03/2025 21:17

I have literally never heard this before and it's absolutely not my experience of Tesla drivers. How bizarre.

Even though 25% of those with a car licence are unfit to hold one, Tesla drivers don't seem to be that many. Unlike BMW drivers- I have to cross a road where some turn left, and they don't indicate, whereas about 80% of other drivers do.

Mokel · 26/03/2025 22:00

People are selling their Teslas. Who wants to buy them?

I feel childish, but good, when I shout Trumpmobile at a Tesla
