To think Trump is right

1000 replies

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 01/03/2025 08:04

Watching the press conference last night which descended into an argument

I can't help think Trump was right and made good points

Thousands of troops are dying and being seriously injured every month

Trump wants it to stop

There are thousands of people who have children alive today who will not be alive tomorrow because of this war

They are clearly in a stalemate and soldiers are now dying untill peace terms are made as no side can win on the battlefield

Trump as brutal as it sounds was being realistic about what peace would be like

Ukraine has to be realistic

If Ukraine sign the rare earth deal with America then America will have a stake in Ukraine and they should then get a better security deal

Trump has not agreed what that is yet, it's clear he wants the European's to form a big part of that

The European's want American troops and for good reason

But this has to stop and the only way it will stop is by peace negotiations

And these have to be realistic and Trump is saying it as it is

Please. Go away.

He was rude offensive and provoked an unnecessary argument. Vance was appalling. Capitulating to Putin will help no one.

Capitulating to bullies like Putin can have no possible downsides, like with Mr Hitler in the 1930s....

Oh, wait....

crumblingschools · 01/03/2025 08:07

So Russia gets a bit of Ukraine and USA gets a bit of Ukraine, what’s in it for Ukraine and the rest of the world? Where does it stop?

I am referring more to the underlaying message rather than the way it was delivered

Whichever finishing school they went to, there parents should ask for a refund

That is not the point I'm making

He was nothing but a bully and that prick Vance is a disgrace.

If you cannot understand why conceding to Russia isn’t a long term peace solution then I cannot help you.

Perfect28 · 01/03/2025 08:08

Everyone wants it to stop. Trump wants it to stop by Ukraine giving away their natural resource to them and their land to Russia. If you were Ukrainian, would you accept that 'peace deal'?

Fangisnotacoward · 01/03/2025 08:08

They are a disgrace

Totally disagree with you! Trump is a bully full stop.

ThePearlBee · 01/03/2025 08:09

But Russia is not GOING to stop. Do you really think that is "realistic"? It is utter pie in the sky. Babyish thinking.

You just want to let Putin get his armies bigger and bolder and recoup.
There are plenty of other countries they'd like to chomp up. Do you know any history?

Ukraine isn't just fighting for Ukraine but doing the job for the rest of Europe. And keeping the fight away from us thereby.

How the fuck is it inevitable that the US takes their minerals? This is the kind of shit Britain used to pull in the 1800s!

This - and the world gets no security or air cover just a green light for Putin to try it on again or elsewhere.

Maybe start getting your understanding of current affairs from a variety of credible sources.

This ⬆️

What are doing about it please, @mumsnet ?

Huckyfell · 01/03/2025 08:12

Thank you for your balanced view op. I have extended family in Ukraine and each time there is a ping on the chat my heart jumps. Dad's, mums, sons and daughters are dying every day.
Full respect for zelenski, he's done a great job in a war he can't win. It's either end by negotiating or surrendering.
I detest putin and russia, I felt distressed by the meeting of the presidents and the way Z was spoken to. But this war needs to end before Ukraine is taken over.
No winners. No, putin is a loser whatever anyone replies.

Figgygal · 01/03/2025 08:12

It can all stop if Russia just stops bombing and backs down
It's that simple
He wont and thats seemingly ok to Trump who just sees the solution to be for Ukraine to capitulate to Russia - you can be damn sure America wouldn't accept it if it were them.

It all derailed yesterday because after Trump said he trusted Putun Zelenskyy pointed all the factual reasons why Putin has shown himself to not be trustworthy (just in the context of Ukraine let alone anything else). Just shows why every leader seems to appease the utter guff that comes out of Trump's mouth - because they know thats the reaction they'll get.

It was a disgraceful display from both Trump and Vance there is no defending it

And this!

Orangesinthebag · 01/03/2025 08:13

So if Putin invaded Scotland & said he was going to keep it you'd be happy to let him?
And let Trump come along and frack the country too to see what he could get for himself with no real guarantee that he would actually support us?

Trump has shown himself to be a liar, a gaslighter and a bully not to mention a criminal and a poor businessman. I wouldn't sign any deal with him either, his word isn't worth anything.
