To think Trump is right

1000 replies

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 01/03/2025 08:04

Watching the press conference last night which descended into an argument

I can't help think Trump was right and made good points

Thousands of troops are dying and being seriously injured every month

Trump wants it to stop

There are thousands of people who have children alive today who will not be alive tomorrow because of this war

They are clearly in a stalemate and soldiers are now dying untill peace terms are made as no side can win on the battlefield

Trump as brutal as it sounds was being realistic about what peace would be like

Ukraine has to be realistic

If Ukraine sign the rare earth deal with America then America will have a stake in Ukraine and they should then get a better security deal

Trump has not agreed what that is yet, it's clear he wants the European's to form a big part of that

The European's want American troops and for good reason

But this has to stop and the only way it will stop is by peace negotiations

And these have to be realistic and Trump is saying it as it is

How would you feel if it was your country that had been invaded?

Shudacudawuda · 01/03/2025 08:14

If USA had a presence in Ukraine (in order to mine these minerals), surely that offers security doesn't it? Or is this too simplistic / wishful thinking.

I am referring more to the underlaying message rather than the way it was delivered

Whichever finishing school they went to, there parents should ask for a refund

That is not the point I'm making

Gosh, I’d like to see you in combat for three years and maintain your manners.

poetryandwine · 01/03/2025 08:15

Trump is only about Trump. He won’t honour he hasn’t put his signature to, and (his business history shows) frequently not even then, so his intentions count for nothing.

The only eay this:deal will bring peace is if Ukraine is swallowed by Russia with mineral rights to America. Why would Zelensky sign?

Unfortunately though, that is the point.

Trump and Vance were a disgrace. They were like playground bullies who don't have the knowledge or intelligence to discuss things diplomatically so resort bully boy tactics.
They completely embarrassed themselves, not that they have an ounce of self awareness to actually realise this.

‘Just sign this blank piece of paper. I’ll get Elon to fill in the details later…’

PorridgeOatsSuck · 01/03/2025 08:15

Please let it go, Trump does not want peace. What does he care about the lives of ordinary people? Where did this peacenik thing come about? He simply wants to benefit from the war or keep his pennies and step aside.

This is short sighted and against America's interest. Since WW2, US has deliberately wanted to be the big boss of Western Europe. They have installed their own nukes on our territory, NATO is America's geopolitical vehicle, Europe is the US's backyard. Now, the Orange man wants to turn away. He can do that. But it has consequences. A rearmed, more powerful, more united Europe is not in the interests of the US or indeed Russia.

But personally I thank Trump for this. The US pullaway has been a long time coming, Europe has been sitting on its laurels all the while. Now is the time for Europe to seize its own power and independence. It won't be in the US's interest, however, and anyone in the UK who wants the US to succeed over Europe should go off and try to live there legally (good luck getting a green card in this climate 👍)

justinhawkinsnavalfluff · 01/03/2025 08:16

Trump just sees this as a transaction - 2 naughty people are fighting and it's making us spend money so we want something back - minerals. It's plain old war profiteering. He is incapable of seeing the truth.

So let's say we go with your argument OP- how do you answer Zelenskys very valid point - Putin cannot be trusted to keep to any agreement?? Even if Trump gets him to agree to a ceasefire he won't hold to it.

So Russia gets a bit of Ukraine and USA gets a bit of Ukraine, what’s in it for Ukraine and the rest of the world? Where does it stop?

Exactly, he was offering nothing.

The provocation and baiting appeared to be deliberate.

To either a) justify withdrawal of support or b) because it was clear a deal was not going to be forthcoming and to save face by claiming Zelensky was belligerent or c) because of behind the scenes pressure from Russia or d) some other crackpot reason

MargaretThursday · 01/03/2025 08:17

Maybe the op can answer this:

Why is it important to Putin the a parenting website, mostly UK based, believes his propaganda?
And while we're at it, why are almost identical posts coming (anonymously) on our small town's Facebook pages?

deeahgwitch · 01/03/2025 08:17

Figgygal · 01/03/2025 08:12

It can all stop if Russia just stops bombing and backs down
It's that simple
He wont and thats seemingly ok to Trump who just sees the solution to be for Ukraine to capitulate to Russia - you can be damn sure America wouldn't accept it if it were them.

It all derailed yesterday because after Trump said he trusted Putun Zelenskyy pointed all the factual reasons why Putin has shown himself to not be trustworthy (just in the context of Ukraine let alone anything else). Just shows why every leader seems to appease the utter guff that comes out of Trump's mouth - because they know thats the reaction they'll get.

It was a disgraceful display from both Trump and Vance there is no defending it

Totally disagree with you! Trump is a bully full stop.

Agree, he’s going to give himself a heart attack with all that shouting.

Jacquettes · 01/03/2025 08:18

If nothing else, Trump accusing Zelensky of having started the war, (despite the world knowing this is not true)and then accusing him of being the man who will start WW3, tells us, yet again, that Trump is not to be trusted. He lies.

True.

Orangesinthebag · 01/03/2025 08:19

The big problem is that the two biggest players in brokering any kind of peace are both inherently untrustworthy - Putin & Trump.
How can you make deals with people like them? One is an aggressive dictator who has invaded a country, the other is a criminal who evaded justice by pardoning himself!

PipMumsnet · 01/03/2025 08:31

Trump has zero interest in the war stopping. He is Putin’s puppet.

FruitPolos · 01/03/2025 08:33

They conceded Crimea (sort of) and then a little later Russia came back for the Donbas. They conceded that (sort of) and then Russia invaded a few years later Russia invaded the whole country.

If they concede now, all that will happen is that Russia will go back, rearm and then invade Kyiv in a few years time.

Putin wants all of Ukraine. And the other former Soviet states.

President Krasnov is just doing his part to facilitate this. The whole press conference was a set up - lots of hostile media towards Ukraine so that it would look like Ukraine were being unreasonable.

EasternEcho · 01/03/2025 08:36

It's a good thing Winston Churchill didn't fall for that argument, if not you may be speaking German now.

sierramiller · 01/03/2025 08:37

How about Merica helps because it can? Without fracking the shit out of the land ?

Bestfootforward11 · 01/03/2025 08:37

PLEASE. After that meeting with Zelensky, you just cannot be serious.

Pumpkincozynights · 01/03/2025 08:38

Are you out of your fucking mind?

PoltergeistsStartLowKey · 01/03/2025 08:38

It's for Russia to stop killing innocent people.

Trump should be impeached immediately. He has clearly lost the plot and no longer stands for America.

He is a convicted criminal. I don't know what they expected.

Bestfootforward11 · 01/03/2025 08:39

…you still haven’t said thank you in this meeting….say thank you….do it…no, do it….

I mean come on, this is outrageous behaviour
