To think Trump is right

1000 replies

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 01/03/2025 08:04

Watching the press conference last night which descended into an argument

I can't help think Trump was right and made good points

Thousands of troops are dying and being seriously injured every month

Trump wants it to stop

There are thousands of people who have children alive today who will not be alive tomorrow because of this war

They are clearly in a stalemate and soldiers are now dying untill peace terms are made as no side can win on the battlefield

Trump as brutal as it sounds was being realistic about what peace would be like

Ukraine has to be realistic

If Ukraine sign the rare earth deal with America then America will have a stake in Ukraine and they should then get a better security deal

Trump has not agreed what that is yet, it's clear he wants the European's to form a big part of that

The European's want American troops and for good reason

But this has to stop and the only way it will stop is by peace negotiations

And these have to be realistic and Trump is saying it as it is

Trump is a twat and so is anyone who thinks he has a point. Trump was put out from the start because President Zelensky didn’t wear a suit. He has stayed multiple times that he will not wear a suit whilst his country is at war. He is a man of principle.

Trump and his little lap dog Vance were a disgrace. They don’t want peace. They want to keep their heads up Putin’s arse for their own personal gain.

Anyone who saw that meeting as anything other than mortifying for the United States should be ashamed of themselves. You included

So Zelensky is a "man of principle" because " he has stayed (sic) multiple times that he will not wear a suit while his country is at war"

How little it takes to convince some people that someone is a man of principle 😂😂

A reporter asked Zelensky why he wasn't wearing a suit-not Trump.

The reporter asked him why he had not conformed to the dress code of the Oval Office.

Zelensky replied that , " I will wear a costume after this war finishes. Yes, maybe something better. I don't know. We will see. Maybe something cheaper.

This took place before Trump entered the room.

Now, it is all well and good to want to channel Che Guevara-without the charisma- but there does come a point when it starts to look a little silly and a bit like cos play-Look, I am a war leader. Look at me!"

It is disrespectful. In the same way, it would be disrespectful to turn up to a wedding that specified formal dress in a donkey jacket and a ripped pair of jeans.

It's tedious and smacks a little bit of wanting to portray himself as plucky lil' Joe up against the giants. A but desperate. A bit sad. but an insight into the man.

Oh for goodness sake. You really need to read up on history if you think that appeasing a bloodthirsty dictator has ever worked, or will ever work. It won't.

There's a poem about appeasing invaders and bullies like Putin:

Dane-Geld
A.D. 980-1016

It is always a temptation to an armed and agile nation
To call upon a neighbour and to say:--
"We invaded you last night--we are quite prepared to fight,
Unless you pay us cash to go away."

And that is called asking for Dane-geld,
And the people who ask it explain
That you've only to pay 'em the Dane-geld
And then you'll get rid of the Dane!

It is always a temptation for a rich and lazy nation,
To puff and look important and to say:--
"Though we know we should defeat you, we have not the
time to meet you.
We will therefore pay you cash to go away."

And that is called paying the Dane-geld;
But we've proved it again and again,
That if once you have paid him the Dane-geld
You never get rid of the Dane.

It is wrong to put temptation in the path of any nation,
For fear they should succumb and go astray;
So when you are requested to pay up or be molested,
You will find it better policy to say:--

"We never pay any-one Dane-geld,
No matter how trifling the cost;
For the end of that game is oppression and shame,
And the nation that plays it is lost!"

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 01/03/2025 14:44

I don't think the answer lies in sending thousands of men to there deaths each week

The answer lies in coming to a peace deal

Backed up by Ukraine having better security

A piece of paper is only worth so much

A massive gun pointing towards you can be worth a lot more

But the paper will let people live

The gun can guarantee that the peace will remain

I am not delusional, I know peace must be backed with weapons

The only peace deal should be a peace deal that means Ukraine doesn't have to lose any of its territory - because any other peace deal would only embolden Putin to take more and more. As we've seen when they tried to appease him when he annexed Crimea in 2014.

If that peace deal isn't possible, then the war goes on. And Ukraine gets all the support it needs to continue to defend its borders.

Don't let the sacrifices the Ukrainian people have made be in vain - how utterly destressing it would be to think that so many have died trying to defend their country from an invading force, only for outside influence (Trump) to give over that same land to Putin anyway.

It baffles me that people the priority should be ending this war as soon as possible, no matter the end result for Ukraine. WW2 went on for six years - double the length of time this conflict has been going on. How different would things have turned out if the Allied forces had decided that fighting against Hitler was too costly after just three years?

Thank god they had a lot more courage than the piss poor excuse for an American president we have today.

No one has said the USA hasn't given aid. What they've take issue with is the continued disinformation spread by Trump about how much aid has been provided and that it is greater than that provided by Europe.

Altogether it is. Direct military aid is about 100 million. That doesn't include "tied aid," or the sums we've been paying to keep Ukraine's government running. We were, until yesterday, paying to keep their electrical grid up. Rubio ended that funding yesterday.

And if you think you know what happened yesterday because you watched a few minutes of it, go watch the whole 50 minutes. The first 40 minutes was the most revealing part. Trump made all the same nice noises he made for Starmer the day before. After the reporter asked about Z's attire, Trump told Z that he liked his outfit. But the whole 40 minutes Z was smirking at the cameras, shaking his head, rolling his eyes demanding "security guarantees," i.e., American boots on the ground, and generally acting like a spoiled teenager who just wants D
dad to shut up and give him the car keys and the car, too, while he's at it. Oh, and throw in the deed to the house, dad, or you're a Putin stooge. It was ridiculous behavior from the person who is supposed to be Ukraine's chief diplomat.

Trump couldn't see the facial expressions because he was next to Z, but Vance could, and V was the one who got his belly full first. It wasn't until Z told Trump, regarding the Ukraine war, "But you have nice ocean and don't feel now, but you will feel it in the future." That's when Trump spun up and the fight really began. Z had no right to "threaten" us with Putin, especially since Putin is not a threat to us. Trump knows it, the American people know it and Z knows it.

P.S. If you're in the UK or France, he's no threat to you, either.

A reporter! That's Majorie Taylor-Green's boyfriend and right wing nut job. Many respectable news outlets have been barred from White House press conferences as they haven't sucked up to Trump.

How come it's OK for Elon to dress like some teenage incel in the White House but Zelensky must wear a suit?

Are you naive to think that Russia still has the capability and capacity to mount a ground incursion on any other country? They haven't altered the FLOT/FLET for the best part of a year. It's a stalemate and they are losing a lot of ground kit/equipment.

Are you naive not to consider the main threat that Russia pose? And have threatened if UK/US made missiles continue to be launched at targets in mainland Russia (outside the conflict zone).
Airspace restriction and denial is a real risk and could pretty much cut of Ukraine support wise.

There are more ways in 2025 to wage war on a country than using ground forces, you sound naive of that.

For anyone in any doubt that Europe can't act alone against Russia, compare top global GDPs

  1. United States: $25.43 trillion
  2. China: $14.72 trillion
  3. Japan: $4.25 trillion
  4. Germany: $3.85 trillion
  5. India: $3.41 trillion
  6. United Kingdom: $2.67 trillion
  7. France: $2.63 trillion
  8. Russia: $2.24 trillion
  9. Canada: $2.16 trillion
  10. Italy: $2.04 trillion
  11. Brazil: $1.92 trillion
  12. Australia: $1.69 trillion
  13. South Korea: $1.67 trillion
  14. Mexico: $1.46 trillion
  15. Spain: $1.41 trillion

A rare metals deal would give the USA more skin in the game.

I could see this working if in compensation Ukraine was granted NATO status. That's what Zelensky wants. Long term security.

What would Russia get in such a deal? Well, perhaps Trump could cut them into some first refusal purchase rights to a percentage of the rare metals.

If Trump is taking the US out of NATO then it forces Europe to defend Ukraine alone. That can be done but leaves the US very isolated in the longer term. And the UK in a 'special' relationship where special=lapdog. Which I don't think anyone here would want.

I think there is an opportunity here to use Trump's reluctance to spend anymore on supporting Ukraine to drive a resolution. But it must be beneficial for all parties or it won't happen.

He's talking to Putin to end the war. Whom should Trump speak to about that? Mali? Maybe Peru?

how can anyone trust a discussion between trump and putin? didn't you hear trump whining yesterday that people had been mean to his poor friend putin when he, trump, was being investigated about his links to russia? he said this after accusing Zelensky of saying bad things about putin

SilkSquare · 01/03/2025 15:11

If Elon Musk does it, does that make it ok.
That sounds like a 10 year old complaining the he isn't allowed to do what his friend does.

If that's the justification for not finding Zelensky's dress unacceptable-It''s a poor one but still, when there is no justification, any excuse will have to do so I see why you put that forward. d

He looks ridiculous-ignoring the dress code when you're coming as a supplicant doesn't say much about him. He set the tone and it was a disrespectful one.

I know what he thinks his costume is saying about him-some sort of Che Guevara/ Braveheart combo but it just makes me wonder why he needs-is so reliant- on a costume. Could it possibly be that he isn't that which he wants to portray-like a poor actor afraid of playing the part without his costume.

Of course, some posters think it is a mark of his integrity but then again, some posters think that you shouldn't open the front door after 5. Posters are not always right even though many of them agree with each other.

It was disrespectful. He knows it was disrespectful and if he doesn't, well that doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.

TankFlyBossW4lk · 01/03/2025 15:13

I think you're a weird snob if you judge a man by what he wears even if he doesn't keep to the sodding dress code. Real class doesn't give a damn. Wasn't there that story about Queen Victoria drinking out of her finger bowl to avoid her guest of honour embarrassment.

He wasn't there to have a good time. It would look crass to his people if he turned up in an expensive suit. I thought he behaved like a leader. I was heartbroken and ashamed how Vance and Trump behaved. How ashamed the US citizens must feel.

Optics...Zelensky is at war, wears fatigues.
Trump wears a big red tie to appeal to his red hat maga fans.
Trump did t take any issue with musk with his cap and slovenly clothes in the oval office, wonder why noone said anything about that?
Who asked Zelensky about wearing a suit...none other than Marjorie Taylor Greens boyfriend...if you aren't acquainted with MTG then to give you an insight, she is a major trump fan who is so crazy that even trump didnt give her a front line job. Basically she is batshit.
Trump is a puppet president...Elon is the one pulling his strings, Elon wants Ukraine resources for his space x/car/starlink Industries . Musk has got one billion dollars worth of contracts since trump came to power...and gets 8 million dollars a day. Tesla has lost 1 billion dollars because of musks antics and he is still the richest man on earth.
Odd that Musk is dismantling the FAA and now using Starlink to replace it...no conflict of interest possible there????? No issue with Musk not thanking them or dressing appropriately...just come on in and help yourself. Trump pretending he is the wheeler dealer when all he is is BOUGHT...bought by musk and manipulated by putin.
