To think Trump is right

1000 replies

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 01/03/2025 08:04

Watching the press conference last night which descended into an argument

I can't help think Trump was right and made good points

Thousands of troops are dying and being seriously injured every month

Trump wants it to stop

There are thousands of people who have children alive today who will not be alive tomorrow because of this war

They are clearly in a stalemate and soldiers are now dying untill peace terms are made as no side can win on the battlefield

Trump as brutal as it sounds was being realistic about what peace would be like

Ukraine has to be realistic

If Ukraine sign the rare earth deal with America then America will have a stake in Ukraine and they should then get a better security deal

Trump has not agreed what that is yet, it's clear he wants the European's to form a big part of that

The European's want American troops and for good reason

But this has to stop and the only way it will stop is by peace negotiations

And these have to be realistic and Trump is saying it as it is

I mean if you give in to bullies be they trump or putin they carry on being bullies and move onto their next target

Europe doesn't want to be carved up between the big powers - it's not for sale , it's not a sweetie shop

IsawwhatIsaw · 01/03/2025 09:00

I think it was a set up, Trump and Vance bringing in cameras and trying to make Zelensky look the unreasonable one. Vance had said previously he didn’t care about Ukraine .
… how could Zelensky ever agree to give away vast mineral deposits for no ongoing security guarantees?
Looks like Trump sees this as a game show. It’s transactional, a business deal.

MyPearlCrow · 01/03/2025 08:57

You can’t separate the message from the delivery. It was an ambush.

Would Trump be looking for peace if China annexed its coasts and then invaded and took large swathes of the US by force? Of course not. It’s ridiculous.

Trump is behaving like a toddler. He claimed he’d resolve the war in one day in his pre-election campaign and is now throwing his toys out because people won’t do what he says. The two on one approach, which appeared staged to me, was painful to watch. It was bullying plain and simple, in an environment where the US were already in charge. Zelenskyy was just a pawn.

Putin is rubbing his hands in glee. What if he thinks he can now take large swathes of Poland, Sweden, France? That’s the message, and it’s a frightening one.

I also think Trump feels intimidated by Zelenskyy who has shown he has balls the size of melons and continues to demonstrate true bravery and statesmanship.

US citizens - what’s the lowdown there, how are people feeling about this, especially republicans?

This American is completely ashamed of Trumps’s actions and very happy to be a dual US.UK citizen and living in the UK.

You are wrong in every possible way. Trump wants assets for him and his billionaire buddies and he is using an invasion by an aggressive authoritarian regime who are utterly ruthless to take advantage of the Ukrainian people. This is morally abhorrent in every possible way.

It is also shortsighted and idiotic. Any concession to Russian will convey the message they just need to keep pushing and eventually they will get what they want. It is dangerous for Ukraine, europe and ultimately the rest of the world as not challenging dangerous regimes and allowing them leeway will eventually lead to war (Germany in the 20s & 30s anyone).

Trump is a selfish, idiotic man and I fear hugely for the future. He is also an uncouth, rude arsehole, but that’s the least of our worries now, the world is basically fucked.

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 01/03/2025 09:02

Perfect28 · 01/03/2025 08:08

Everyone wants it to stop. Trump wants it to stop by Ukraine giving away their natural resource to them and their land to Russia. If you were Ukrainian, would you accept that 'peace deal'?

Ukraine is in a bad position and ideally everyone would live in peace

But the answer to your question is yes

If it means I could bring my children up in a country that was not being ripped apart by war

If it meant not having to send my partner off to fight and never see him again

If it meant that I could live a life that I wanted to live them yes I would let the Americans mine the rare earth from the country

And who knows I could even get a job at the rare earth mines

Yes some of the wealth will go to America but some will stay in Ukraine

This money could be used to rebuild Ukraine

If Trump really wanted “peace” then he would tell Russia to stop invading another country. Instead he’s trying to gain an advantage for the USA.

Exactly, he doesn't want peace at all and his denigration of Zelensky, which lots of people are buying into by the way, is a smoke screen to hide Putin who is the real villain of the piece.

Come on, surely we are all smarter than Trump and can see through his clumsy tactics??

User37482 · 01/03/2025 09:03

Trump and Vance shamed themselves here, utterly shameful. Europe needs to pull it’s damn finger out and stop relying on the americans to defend it. The Ukrainians have been let down by everyone frankly. I’m just appalled.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 01/03/2025 09:04

What Trump is "suggesting" is not a peace deal, it is surrender.

Reetpetitenot · 01/03/2025 09:04

'Ukraine has lost a lot more by the meeting being handled this way - if Zelensky had been a bit more humble (and understandably that was hard in the face of such preplanned and flagrant disrespect), he could have managed the situation and kept the US on board. Europe is not united enough and does not have enough military power to deter Russia. We needed the US involveme'

But that doesn't work be it in international relations or in the playground. You can't keep appeasing bullies, it's always the innocent who suffer.

Ohshutupdavidyoutwat · 01/03/2025 09:05

The Americans that oppose Trump must be shaking their heads in disbelief at what is becoming of their country. Their reputation on a global scale is shattered, after all millions of people voted for him so what does it say about the American people? It is sad to see the downfall of a country on such a massive scale - it will be taught in history lessons in years to come I am sure. I would not set foot in America if you paid me.

You would give your country and its resources over to another country and basically function as a vassal state? Not only for your generation, but for generations of children to come will be paying off the debt? Do you seriously think Britain should have have surrendered to Germany in order to prevent all those deaths? Perhaps you really do think this way, but in my case I would rather preserve my country and pay the price now, rather than lose it forever.

Do you know about the Budapest memorandum?

headstone · 01/03/2025 09:06

The Americans voted Trump in and don’t want to keep paying for the war. So what is the other option really. Europe doesn’t want to pay for the war by itself or put troops in the ground. How many Ukrainian men have died already fighting a war they can’t win. People use World War 2 as an example but why not start with world war 1. When France was invaded should we have sent our own men in to be slaughtered in their thousands? No and maybe world war 2 could have been avoided

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 01/03/2025 09:07

Trump does not give one shit about the thousands of Ukrainians who have died in a war initiated by his best bro.

Those deaths are on Russia. Do you really think that if Ukraine had rolled over Putin would have stopped there.

The disrespectful treatment of Zelenskyy by those two twats last night was appalling. If this is how they act publicly can you image the bully tactics they use when cameras aren't on?

Of course the war need to end but don't act like Trump and Vance are in this for anything other than ££££££

alwaysdeleteyourcookies · 01/03/2025 09:07

Tbf if more people were smarter than Trump, he wouldn't have been elected twice.

TheGrimSmile · 01/03/2025 09:07

Trump is despicable, along with anyone who defends him.

Do you think that "not actively extorting Ukraine" might be an option?

Fanacapan · 01/03/2025 09:07

Trump doesn’t want peace, he wants a chunk of Ukraine! I suspect he has already agreed a deal with Putin, he’ll get rid of Zelensky in return for a share in Ukraines resources. That is why no one else was involved in their ‘peace talks’. We are all going to hell in a handcart!

Paniconthedancefloor · 01/03/2025 09:09

It was so cringeworthy to watch. Who the hell is Vance and what has he ever done that gives him the right to be so goddamn rude to the respected war leader of a nation being slaughtered by a dictator.
