Petuniaspetal · 28/02/2025 20:24

Have to be honest since trump won i wasn't going anyway. But anyone cancelling or going elsewhere?
I have a big birthday this year, I would go to the garbage dump rather than support America,/musk in any way. I know therwmis at least half of America that doesn't.support this shxt and for them I am sorry but for the republicans too spineless and self interested to resist their dictator.trump...not one iota of sympathy for the rising prices loss of Medicaid or medicare.

YABU ..to cancel/Not go
YANBU...wouldn't touch it with a bargepole

You could still come but only support the towns where the majority are as disgusted with you are about what's going on - there's plenty of us, and increasingly more, I suspect.

haufbiskiy · 28/02/2025 20:28

we were thinking of a trip to do the east coast. We are not doing that now,

MidnightPatrol · 28/02/2025 20:28

Why would you not go to the US….?

Incywincyspi · 28/02/2025 20:29

We are still going to NC

bumblefeline · 28/02/2025 20:29

We are still planning our trip.

Patcherdog · 28/02/2025 20:31

I felt ashamed tonight watching Trump act like a bullying fool. Appalling behaviour.

Thepeopleversuswork · 28/02/2025 20:34

As disgusted am I am by the horror show of that press conference (and all the rest of it)... it's worth keeping in mind that only half of Americans support Trump.

America is going through an existential crisis but it's still a wonderful country with a hugely rich cultural history, incredible cities and scenery and fantastic people.

I work for a US company and my colleagues from there are utterly ashamed of what's being done to their country and in their name. Why should we throw all of them under a bus because of the behaviour of the Orange Despot and his cronies? Trump will pass, eventually. America will still be there.

That said, I would be more nervous about travelling there than I would two years ago. The craziness is out of control at the moment.

Cornishclio · 28/02/2025 20:34

YANBU I won't go there now. We have been to New York, California and Florida and Nevada before. Won't go again for the foreseeable.

Locutus2000 · 28/02/2025 20:34

Trump is trying to force Project 2025 ideals onto the blue states.

I'd be more worried about a civil war than supporting the US economy.

Whammyyammy · 28/02/2025 20:35

Nope. Off to San Antonio in may(holiday)St augustine in July(work), Scottsdale and fort worth (both work) in September and SLC(holidsy) in December. Looking forward to all.

PurpleThistle7 · 28/02/2025 20:38

There was another thread like this last week. I'm an American immigrant so we have no choice but to go back this summer as my husband and I haven't seen our parents in a while. I wouldn't go for an optional holiday if you paid me. I'm super anxious about the situation with flight control, super anxious about being around all the crazy people, (middle of the night chaos thinking) super anxious about ww3 breaking out and getting trapped in the wrong country, super anxious about my daughter or I needing to access medical care that is a huge minefield just now... it goes on and on.

I have no idea why anyone is going there for a fun time, but aware that I am more invested than many. I can't just focus on the good things as all the bad things are directly and intensely affecting people I love so it's super personal.

FuckMeUpFlorida · 28/02/2025 20:38

Off there next month.

One half of DH family republican other staunch democrat.

Always makes cocktail hour very lively, but tbh, I haven't got the stomach for discussion this year.

ExtraOnions · 28/02/2025 20:40

It’s unsafe for women .. they have a sex offender in charge, having given a home to the ex trafficking Tate’s, and, have limited access to basic female healthcare

daisychain01 · 28/02/2025 20:41

Honestly it's typical knee jerk reaction on here!

you do realise USA is a wonderful diverse country with great people and great places to visit. I don't have a US trip booked but I certainly wouldn't be cancelling over the debacle in the WH

why should one orange man dictate what the rest of us choose to do with our time and cash.

TappyGilmore · 28/02/2025 20:43

We were going to go (only had a vague idea, not firm plans) but now won’t be going, but only because another opportunity came up instead. Nothing to do with Trump etc. So we probably will look to go in a couple of years.

If I did have a firm booking then I wouldn’t be cancelling it.

SnoozingFox · 28/02/2025 20:46

As per usual on MN, loads of people who never had any intention of going to America virtue signalling saying how they would not ever, EVER go. It's like me saying that I would never EVER get on a rocket and fly to Mars. Or 4 years ago people refusing to come to the UK because of Boris.

I have actually been to the US recently and am flying off to a Republican state in a month or so. Trump is not representative of the country as a whole - and not all traditional Republican voters think he's great either.

All the "it's dangerous for women" - give me a break.

jamaisjedors · 28/02/2025 20:52

It's not virtue signalling, we had planned to go on a special trip to New York sometime in the autumn but both turned to each other after Trump's inauguration and said, let's not go.

It just would taint the whole thing.

No signalling to anyone but each other (and now I guess this thread seeing as the op asked).

same here

Temporaryname158 · 28/02/2025 20:55

I’ve been to America numerous times, east bd west coast. I wouldn’t book to go again

tallhotpinkflamingo · 28/02/2025 20:56

I was going to book a Virgin cruise to the US but I'm going to book one for a different location now.

CraneBeak · 28/02/2025 21:04

I don't hold an entire country responsible for the behaviour of it's political elite. I'd love to visit the US. If ever I were fortunate enough to go, I'd still want to experience the natural beauty and culture there.

Tvp123 · 28/02/2025 21:24

MidnightPatrol · 28/02/2025 20:28

Why would you not go to the US….?

In protest

bluetongue · 28/02/2025 21:26

I’m Australian and our dollar is so weak I couldn’t afford to go even if I wanted to.

Petuniaspetal · 28/02/2025 21:27

I've been to the USA about 6 or 7 times. Always enjoyed it.
America decides to piss off Canada Mexico Europe Ukraine, sucks up to Putin. Wonders why they're not liked and people don't trust them. 🤔

We're visiting family in a firmly democratic state, not changing that.
